Abstract

PURPOSE: To machine stepped gears without changeovers by using a mechanism to reciprocate a change gear on the cutter shaft side between multi-stage gear trains, a mechanism to adjust cutter infeed stopping positions and a mechanism to adjust the starting position of cutter reciprocations.
CONSTITUTION: Two change ger trains (5,7) and (6,8) to rotate a cutter shaft 9 and a work holding rotating shaft 10 synchronously are provided. A cylinder 11 to reciprocate a change gear 4 on the side of the cutter shaft between the two gear trains is provide. Further, a mechanism to adjut positions to stop cutter infeeds and a mechanism to adjust positions to start cutter reciprocations are provided to gear-cut stepped gears without changeovers. By so constructing a cutting device, stepped gears having gears of the same pitch, helix angle and pressure angle, different numbers of teeth, expecially clustr gears used for automobile transmissions can be gear-cut without changeovers.
