Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the machining accuracy of a machine tool by measuring a displacement perpendicular to the moving direction of a slide table and feeding back the results to a controller which controls the driving of a machine tool servo motor. CONSTITUTION:A non-contact measuring device 18 is attached to a saddle 6 facing a datum surface 15A and measures a distance l between the non-contact measuring device 18 and the datum surface 15A over the whole stroke along the Z-axis of the saddle. A non-contact measuring device 22 is attached to a cross slide 8 facing a datum surface 19A and measures a distance L between the measuring device 22 and the datum surface 19A over the whole stroke along the X-axis of the corss slide 8. The measuring devices 18 and 22 are arranged to agree with the position of the tool tip in the Z and X axis directions and measure errors at the point of cutting. By so doing, the measured values are fed back to servo motors 9 and 12 and the errors are corrected.
