Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject lamp wherein electrodes are made of pure tungsten and the temperature at the calescence point of electrodes is within a specific range, whereby blackening of the wall of a luminous tube due to the evaporation of electrodes is removed and the luminous maintenance ratio is improved.
CONSTITUTION: A tungsten filament, a thoriated tungsten filament or the like is used as a material of for the electrode 1, and a rase gas, mercury, dyprosium iode, tharium iode, cesium iode, and sodium iode are sealed in a luminous tube 2 respectively in suitable quantities so that the temperature at the calescence point of the electrode 1 is in the range of from 2500 to 2800°C. When the temperature at the calescence point of the electrode 1 becomes less than 2500°C, thorium contained in the electrode or electorn discharging meterial separates and adheres to the inner wal l of the luminous tube, thereby reducing the luminous flux maintenance ratio. When it exceeds 2800°C, evaporation of tungsten forming the electrodes begins and is unfit for use, and the wall of the luminous wall is blackened, thus the luminous flux maintenance ratio being reduced. Accordingly, by the above procedures it is possible to improve the luminous flux maintenance ratio.
