PURPOSE:To obtain a gas laser unit which has a simple constitution and can change and take out the laser output efficiently. CONSTITUTION:The first electrode group 1 consists of plural needle-shaped electrodes 3... which are provided in parallel in the direction orthogonal to gas flow 2, and these electrodes 3... are insulated at regular intervals and are connected to one pole of the power source through resistors 4.... The second electrode group 5 consists of plural bar-shaped electrodes 6... which are provided in the direction of gas flow 2, and these electrodes 6... are insulated at regular intervals and are connected to the other pole of the power source through resistors 7.... Further resonator mirror 9 is provided at both ends of electrode groups 1 and 5 so that optical axis 8 may be formed between electrode groups 1 and 5, thus constituting laser optical system 10. Now, the current distribution in the direction orthogonal to gas flow 2 is regulated by resistors 4..., and the current distribution in the gas flow 2 direction is regulated by resistors.... AS a result, even when the gas pressure, the gas flowing velocity, etc., are changed to regulate the laser output, the current distribution where the output is increased by the position of mirror 9 can be formed.
