Abstract
1321696 Adjustable headlamps PROJECTEURS CIBIE 12 Nov 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 53868/70 Heading F4R A temperature compensated device for automatically compensating the vertical orientation of vehicle headlamps depending upon the attitude of the vehicle comprises a two chambered hydraulic or pneumatic transducer 8a, 8b and Fig. 2, not shown, at the front and rear of a vehicle interconnected so that variations of volume of the two chambers in response to changes in vehicle attitude take place inversely, the two chambers 14a, 14<SP>1</SP>a of the front transducer and the two chambers 14b, 14<SP>1</SP>b of the rear transducer being connected in parallel to the two symmetrical inputs of a double secondary transducer 40 having a central mechanical output 45 controlling the headlamps P 1 , P 2 . Due to the inverse arrangement of the transducers, wherein an increase in volume of one chamber 14a causes a decrease in volume of the other chamber 14<SP>1</SP>a and the inverse and parallel interconnection of the transducers via pipes 30a, 30<SP>1</SP>a, 30b, 30<SP>1</SP>b any volume changes due to temperature variations are cancelled and do not affect the headlamp orientation. Variations in vehicle attitude are sensed by a pivot system connected between the vehicle wheels 1a, 1b, and the sprung parts of the vehicle and transmitted to the transducers 8a, 8b, via levers 5a, 5b. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4, 5, not shown, the two chambered transducers 8a, 8b are each replaced by two single chambered transducers feed - ing the secondary transducer and interconnected as before.
