(57)【要約】 （修正有） 【課題】 遮水性と強度の要件を満たす廉価な複合ケー
ブルを得ること。 【解決手段】 複合ケーブル１０が、コア部分１２と、
引張強度部分２０と、導線および遮水部分３０と、外装
テープ５０と、外部ジャケット６０とを有している。コ
ア部分は、少なくとも１本のファイバオプティック導線
を有し、導線および遮水部分は、撚られた導線３２と、
遮水部材３６、３７とを有している。引張強度部分は、
強度部材２２を有している。複合ケーブルは、高ビット
速度容量のオプティカルファイバ導線１４を電気信号／
電力搬送容量の電気導線３２と結合し、遮水性と引張強
度の要件を満たしている。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、高ビット速度容量
のオプティカルファイバ導線を電気信号／電力搬送容量
の電気導線と結合した複合ケーブルに関する。
【０００２】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】公知の複合ケーブル
が、ＵＳ−Ａ−５５４４２７０に開示されており、ケー
ブルが、オプティカルファイバ導線と結合された多数の
撚られた電気導線を有するものとして記載されている。
公知の複合ケーブルは、撚られた電気導線とオプティカ
ルファイバ導線との間に隙間を有しており、これらの隙
間は、遮水性を備えていない。遮水性は重要である。何
故ならば、遮水性により、ケーブルが水流の導管になる
のが阻止されるからである。さらに、オプティカルファ
イバ導線は、強度部材によって保護されていない。本発
明の目的は、高ビット速度容量のオプティカルファイバ
導線を電気信号／電力搬送容量の電気導線と結合した、
遮水性と強度の要件を満たす廉価な複合ケーブルを提供
することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】好ましい実施の形態で
は、ジャケットとコア部分との間に定められた環が、幾
つかの遮水部材を備えている。１組の導線が環に配置さ
れ、導線に隣接して隙間が存在している。隙間は、ケー
ブルに水が入った場合に、水が特に入りやすい。水が入
らないようにするため、環に、幾つかの遮水部材を設け
るのが都合がよい。好ましくは遮水糸を有する第１の遮
水部材が、隙間に配置されている。第１の遮水部材は好
ましくは、撚られた導線に撚られており、隙間が十分な
遮水性を有することを確保する。第２の遮水部材（たと
えば、遮水テープ）が、環内に配置され、導線を取り囲
んでいる。環に配置されている第３の遮水部材が、遮水
材料で含浸され又は被覆された強度部材である。上述の
ことを考慮すると、複合部材は、遮水および強度の要件
を充足している。

【発明の実施の形態】図１および図２を参照すると、本
発明にかかる複合ケーブル１０が示されている。複合ケ
ーブル１０は、ファイバオプティックコア部分１２と、
強度部分２０と、導線および遮水部分３０と、外装テー
プ５０と、外部ジャケット６０とを有している。複合ケ
ーブル１０は、オプティカル信号と電気／電子信号の両
方を伝送することができる。ファイバオプティックコア
部分１２は、緩衝管１８の内側の遮水材料１６内に配置
されたファイバオプティック導線１４を有している。フ
ァイバオプティック導線１４は、複数の独立したオプテ
ィカルファイバを含んでいてもよい。あるいは、ファイ
バオプティック導線１４は、単一のオプティカルファイ
バでもよく、バンドルや１以上のオプティカルファイバ
リボンのようなオプティカルファイバ群でもよい。ファ
イバオプティックコア部分１２は有利には、電磁的干渉
を受けることなしに、ファイバオプティックケーブル１
０に高情報搬送能力を与える。ファイバオプティックコ
ア部分１２は一般に、寸法が小さく軽量であり、ファイ
バオプティックケーブル１０の敷設が容易である。ま
た、ファイバオプティックコア部分１２は、電磁エネル
ギを殆ど放出しないので、安全である。さらに、ファイ
バオプティックコア部分１２は、スパーク・ハザードを
備えていない。
【０００５】遮水材料１６は、ケーブル１０の曲げ、膨
張、または収縮の際にファイバオプティック導線１４の
移動を可能にするチキソトロピー遮水材料である。遮水
材料１６は、たとえば、シリコン又は石油基材料であ
る。或いは、緩衝管１８は、管１８内に分散され又は含
浸された親水性粉末のような乾燥遮水材料を含んでいて
もよく、遮水材料１６は、遮水テープ又は糸を含んでい
てもよい。緩衝管１８は好ましくは、ポリプロピレンの
ようなプラスチックで形成されており、１層以上のポリ
エステルを有する緩衝管を使用してもよい。さらに、緩
衝管１８がルースチューブ型式の設計を有しているが、
特に屋内用のケーブル１０については、ＵＳ−Ａ−５６
２７９３２に開示されているようなタイトバッファド型
式を使用してもよい。
【０００６】強度部材２０は、たとえば、緩衝管１８の
まわりに螺旋の層をなした、市販されている含浸ファイ
バガラス部材２２を有している。或いは、強度部材２２
は、ＫＥＶＬＥＲ材料を含んでいてもよい。好ましく
は、強度部材２２は、ケーブル１０に、抗座屈、圧縮お
よび引張強度特性を与える。さらに、強度部材２２は、
遮水コンパウンドで含浸され或いは被覆されている。引
張強度部分２０は有利には、複合ケーブル１０に強度を
与え、これにより緩衝管１８およびファイバオプティッ
ク導線１４に加えられる応力を減少させ或いは回避す
る。導線および遮水部分３０は、撚られた導線３２のよ
うな、電力、制御、および／又は、データ伝送用の１組
の導線を有している。導線３２は好ましくは、強度部材
２２に対してＳＺ又は反螺旋層をなして強度部材２２の
まわりに撚られている。導線３２は好ましくは、ＡＷＧ
（アメリカ針金ゲージ）寸法の１９〜２２であり、ケー
ブルを曲げ、緩衝管を保護する。導線３２のＳＺ又は反
螺旋層は、捩れを釣り合わせる。１組の導線３２は、１
以上のファイバオプティック導線（図示せず）を有して
いる。
【０００７】外装テープ５０とファイバオプティックコ
ア部分１２との間の導線３２の位置には、環４０が形成
され、環４０は、導線および遮水部分３０と、導線３２
に隣接した隙間Ｓとを有している。隙間Ｓは、水がケー
ブルに入った場合に、水が特に入りやすい。水が入らな
いようにするため、導線および遮水部分３０に、別個の
遮水部材を設けるのがよい。好ましくは遮水糸を有する
第１の遮水部材が、隙間Ｓに配置されている。遮水糸３
６が、好ましくは、撚られた導線に撚られており、隙間
Ｓが、十分な遮水性を有することを確保する。或いは、
遮水糸３６は、遮水テープ、又はシリコンゲルやグリー
スのようなチキソトロピー遮水材料を含んでいてもよ
い。第２の遮水部材（たとえば、遮水テープ３７）が、
環４０に配置されている。遮水テープ３７は、導線およ
び遮水部分３０のまわりに、好ましくは層をなさずに、
長さ方向に巻かれており、これにより、撚られた導線３
２は、遮水糸３６と遮水テープ３７との間に略配置され
ている。或いは、遮水テープ３７を、撚られた導線３２
のまわりに螺旋に巻いてもよい。ジャケット６０と外装
テープ５０を剥ぐため、外装リップコード３８が設けら
れている。環４０に配置されている第３の遮水部材は、
上述のように、遮水コンパウンドで含浸され又は被覆さ
れた強度部材２２である。したがって、環４０は、少な
くとも３つの遮水部材、すなわち、遮水テープ３７、遮
水糸３６、遮水コンパウンドで含浸され又は被覆された
強度部材２２を有している。
【０００８】外装テープ５０は、波形鋼テープ材料のよ
うな金属材料を有しており、電気遮蔽とネズミに対する
保護を提供する。或いは、積層アルミニウム、銅被覆
鋼、青銅テープを使用してもよい。ジャケット６０は、
中密度ポリエチレンのような丈夫な材料で形成されてい
る。ケーブル１０を室内用に使用するときの室内試験の
要件を充足するために、ジャケット６０に難燃剤を付加
してもよい。図３は、複合ケーブル１０を有するケーブ
ルアセンブリ１００を示している。アセンブリ１００
は、撚り線３２の終端にそれぞれ位置する普通の電気コ
ネクタ７１と、オプティカルファイバ１４の終端にそれ
ぞれ位置するＳＣ型コネクタ７２とを有している。ＳＣ
型コネクタは、米国ノースカロライナ州ヒッコリーのシ
ーコル社によって販売されている。
【０００９】限定ではなく例示として示されている上述
の実施の形態を参照して、本発明について説明を加えて
きた。当業者は、特許請求の範囲の範囲から逸脱するこ
となしに上述の実施の形態に関して種々の変形や修正を
なし得ることを認識するであろう。たとえば、製造性お
よび／又は強度を高めるため、強度部材２２が遮水テー
プ３７および周囲の導線３２内に半径方向に配置されて
おり、遮水部材が緩衝管１８のまわりに配置されている
本発明の実施の形態に従って、複合ケーブル（図示せ
ず）を作ることができる。本発明の別の実施の形態で
は、廉価で製造の容易な複合ケーブル（図示せず）を、
強度部材２２なしに形成してもよい。

Claims (2)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 少なくとも１本のファイバオプティック
    導線を有し、強度部分によって保護されているファイバ
    オプティックコア部分と、ファイバオプティックコア部
    分を取り囲むジャケットと、ジャケットとファイバオプ
    ティックコア部分との間に定められた環とを備え、環
    が、１組の導線を有し、少なくとも数本の導線間に隙間
    が形成され、環が更に、第１および第２の遮水部材を有
    し、第１の遮水部材が、前記隙間の１つに配置され、第
    ２の遮水部材が、前記１組の導線に隣接していることを
    特徴とする複合ケーブル。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記環が、第３の遮水部材を備え、第３
    の遮水部材が、ファイバオプティックコア部分に隣接し
    ていることを特徴とする請求項１に記載の複合ケーブ
    ル。
