【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明はポリ尿素組成物、その製
造方法およびその組成物から形成した製品に関するもの
である。本発明は特にポリ尿素組成物から形成したカバ
ーを採用したゴルフボールに関するものである。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】ゴルフボールのカバーに適していると考
えられる材料はわずかしかない。バラタは合成により作
ることもできる天然材料であるが、1960年代の中頃まで
はこのバラタがよりぬきの材料であった。バラタはその
優れた「クリック（click ）という打撃音」と「打撃の
感触」で知られている。1960年代においては、デュポン
社が新しいプラスチック製品を発表した。その製品は、
サーリン（登録商標）という名前で販売されたアイオノ
マーであった。しかしながら、サーリンはバラタと比較
して固く、多くのゴルファーは「打撃音」と「感触」の
ために相変わらずバラタを好んでいる。
【０００３】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】サーリンの耐久性およ
びバラタの「打撃音」と「感触」を有するゴルフボール
のカバー材料を求める研究が続けられている。ポリウレ
タンは、耐久性および良好な「打撃音」と「感触」の両
方の必要条件を満たすので、近年ゴルフボールのカバー
材料として検討されている。しかしながら、ポリウレタ
ンは加工性に欠点がある。
【０００４】したがって、打撃音と感触が改善され、な
おかつ剪断抵抗と切傷抵抗が改善されたゴルフボールの
カバー材料がいまだ必要とされている。
【０００５】
【課題を解決するための手段】上記に鑑みて、本発明
は、各々が少なくとも２つの官能基を有する、有機イソ
シアネートおよび有機アミンの反応生成物からなるポリ
尿素組成物を提供するものである。本発明はまた、これ
らのポリ尿素組成物から形成されたカバーを採用したゴ
ルフボールを提供するものである。
【０００６】本発明にしたがって、イソシアネートとア
ミン硬化剤とを反応させることによりポリ尿素を製造す
る。アミン硬化剤は有機二官能価アミンである。必要に
応じて、三官能価アミンを用いてもよい。イソシアネー
トとアミン硬化剤を反応させることにより製造した本発
明によるポリ尿素は、広い温度範囲において加工でき
る。
【０００７】本発明の方法においては、ポリ尿素を形成
するのに十分なモル当量比にあるアミン硬化剤とイソシ
アネートを反応させることが必要である。アミノ基のイ
ソシアネート基に対するモル当量比は広範囲に亘ってい
る。好ましくは、アミノ基のイソシアネート基に対する
モル当量比は5.47：１から1.55：１までの範囲にあり、
最も好ましくは2.97：１である。着色剤、紫外線吸収
剤、可塑剤等のような追加の物質を本発明のポリ尿素組
成物中に含有させてもよい。
【０００８】本発明により製造したポリ尿素は、シーラ
ント、接着剤、コーティングおよび成形部品等の様々な
用途に用いられる。ポリ尿素はまた、レンジボール（ra
ngeball）として使用するのに適したワンピースボール
を製造するのに用いてもよい。好ましくは、ポリ尿素
は、その顕著な耐久性と剪断抵抗のためにツーピースま
たはスリーピースのゴルフボールのカバー材料として使
用される。
【０００９】本発明のポリ尿素は、各々が２つ以上の官
能基を有する有機イソシアネートと有機アミンとを反応
させることにより調製される。有用なイソシアネートの
例としては、（もちろん、それらに限定されるものでは
ないが）、少なくとも29％、好ましくは29％から34％ま
での範囲のイソシアネート含有量を有する、脂肪族イソ
シアネート、アリール脂肪族イソシアネート、および芳
香族イソシアネート等が挙げられる。ジイソシアネート
の混合物を本発明に用いてもよい。
【００１０】本発明に用いることのできる脂肪族イソシ
アネートの例としては、（もちろん、それらに限定され
るものではないが）、エチレン ジイソシアネート、プ
ロピレン−１，２−ジイソシアネート、テトラメチレン
−１，４−ジイソシアネート、ヘキサメチレン−１，６
−ジイソシアネート、ドデカン−１，12−ジイソシアネ
ート等のようなポリメチレン ジイソシアネート；ジシ
クロヘキシルメタンジイソシアネート、シクロブタン−
１，３−ジイソシアネート、シクロヘキサン−１，３−
ジイソシアネートとシクロヘキサン−１，４−ジイソシ
アネート並びにこれら異性体の混合物、１−イソシアナ
ート−３，３，５−トリメチル−５−イソシアナートメ
チルシクロヘキサン等のような脂環式イソシアネート；
１，３−キシレン ジイソシアネート、過塩素化アリー
ル ポリイソシアネート、アニリンとホルムアルデヒド
を縮合し、それをホスゲネーション（phosgenation）し
て得られるポリフェニルポリメチレン ポリイソシアネ
ート、ｍおよびｐ−イソシアナートフェニル−スルホニ
ル イソシアネート等のようなアリール脂肪族ジイソシ
アネートが挙げられる。
【００１１】本発明に用いることのできる芳香族イソシ
アネートの例としては、３，３′−ジメチル−４，４′
−ビフェニレン ジイソシアネート（ＴＯＤＩ）、２，
４−トルエン ジイソシアネートまたは２，６−トルエ
ン ジイソシアネート並びにそれら異性体の混合物（例
えば、80％の２，４−トルエン ジイソシアネートと20
％の２，６−トルエン ジイソシアネートの混合物）、
フェニレン−１，４−ジイソシアネート、ジフェニルメ
タン−２，４′−ジイソシアネート、ジフェニルメタン
−４，４′−ジイソシアネート（ＭＤＩ）、ジフェニル
エーテル ４，４′−ジイソシアネート、ナフチレン
−１，５−ジイソシアネート（ＮＤＩ）、ｐ−フェニレ
ン ジイソシアネート（ＰＰＤＩ）、ｐ，ｐ′−ジフェ
ニル ジイソシアネート、ヘキサヒドロフェニレン−
１，３−ジイソシアネート、ヘキサヒドロフェニレン−
１，４−ジイソシアネート、トリフェニルメタン−４，
４′，４″−トリイソシアネート、パーヒドロジフェニ
ルメタン−２，４′−ジイソシアネート、パーヒドロジ
フェニルメタン−４，４′−ジイソシアネート等が挙げ
られ、ＭＤＩが好ましい。本発明に用いることのできる
他のイソシアネートの例としては、カルボジイミド基を
有するポリイソシアネート、アロファネート基を有する
ポリイソシアネート、イソシアヌレート基を有するポリ
イソシアネート、尿素基を有するポリイソシアネート、
アシル化尿素基を有するポリイソシアネート、ビウレッ
ト基を有するポリイソシアネート、テロメリゼーション
反応により調製されるポリイソシアネート、エステル基
を有するポリイソシアネート、上述したイソシアネート
とアセタールとの反応生成物、および重合脂肪酸基を含
有するポリイソシアネートが挙げられ、英国特許出願第
965,474 号に記載されている種類のカルボン酸のエステ
ル ジイソシアネートおよびイソホロン ジイソシアネ
ート、並びにｐ，ｐ′，ｐ″−トリフェニル メタン
トリイソシアネートのようなトリイソシアネートを用い
てもよい。
【００１２】本発明には、広範囲のアミン硬化剤を用い
ることができる。どのアミン硬化剤を選択するかは、ポ
リ尿素製品の硬度に影響をあたえる。一般的に、アミン
硬化剤の例としては、有機ジアミンおよびトリアミン等
が挙げられる。芳香族ジアミンが好ましい。有用なアミ
ン硬化剤の例としては、ポリメチレン−ジ−ｐ−アミノ
ベンゾエート、ポリエチレングリコール−ビス（４−ア
ミノベンゾエート）等が挙げられる。特に好ましいジア
ミンの例としては、化学式(1) を有するポリメチレン−
ジ−ｐ−アミノベンゾエートが挙げられる：

２，２）−オクタン、Ｎ−メチル−Ｎ′−ジメチルアミ
ノエチルピペラジン、Ｎ，Ｎ−ジメチルベンジルアミ
ン、ビス−（Ｎ，Ｎ−ジエチルアミノエチル）−アジペ
ート、Ｎ，Ｎ−ジエチルベンジルアミン、ペンタメチル
ジエチレントリアミン、Ｎ，Ｎ−ジメチルシクロヘキシ
ルアミン、Ｎ，Ｎ，Ｎ′，Ｎ′−テトラメチル−１，３
−ブタンジアミン、Ｎ，Ｎ−ジメチル−β−フェニルエ
チルアミン、１，２−ジメチルイミダゾールおよび２−
メチルイミダゾール等が挙げられる。ジメチレンアミン
のような第２アミンとアルデヒド（好ましくはホルムア
ルデヒド）から、もしくはケトンとフェノール、ノニル
フェノール、またはビス−フェノールのようなフェノー
ルから得られる既知のマンニッヒ塩基を触媒として用い
てもよい。

【実施例】本発明を好ましい実施例に基づいてさらに詳
細に説明する。なお、本発明はそれら実施例に限定され
るものではない。また、別記しない限り、部は重量部を
表わすものである。
【００２６】（実施例１）以下に記載した量のイソシア
ネート、白色分散剤および紫顔料を第１の容器中で混合
し、第２の容器中でポラミン（登録商標）650 を用意す
ることによりこの実施例の組成物を調製した。これらの
容器を真空オーブン中で150 °Ｆの温度まで30分間に亘
り加熱した。これらの容器の含有物を混合し、90秒間に
亘り反応させた。生成した物質を130 °Ｆまで加熱した
型中に注型した。5,000 ＣＳｔから13,000ＣＳｔまでの
粘度に達するようにゲル化した後、糸巻きコアを型内に
置いて10分間に亘り150 °Ｆまで加熱して尿素で覆った
ゴルフボールを作成した。

【００２８】上述した粘度を求めるために、時間に対す
る尿素の粘度の増加を、ラプラ テクノロジー リミテ
ッド社により製造されたバイブレーティング ニードル
キュアメータ（vibrating needle curemeter：ＶＮ
Ｃ）により測定した。硬化中、スチールの針を尿素中に
垂下した。ＶＮＣの信号発生器により駆動される電流振
動器によって針を垂直に振動させた。針の動きに対する
抵抗を電圧出力として記録した。
【００２９】ゴルフボールのコアを型内の尿素に導入す
るのに適した尿素の粘度は、5,000ＣＳｔから13,000Ｃ
Ｓｔまでの範囲であり、80ｍＶから70ｍＶの範囲の電圧
出力に対応するものであった。粘度がこの範囲となる時
間は約68±４秒であった。
【００３０】従来技術で知られているように、圧縮型を
用いてゴルフボールのカバーにディンプル模様をつけ
た。ディンプル模様をつけたポリ尿素カバーのゴルフボ
ールには、バフ研磨、印刷、銘入れ、および包装のよう
な標準的なゴルフボールの仕上げ操作を行なうことがで
きる。ポリ尿素カバーの硬度を表１に示す。
【００３１】（実施例２）実施例１の方法を用いて以下
の組成物を調製した。ポリ尿素の硬度を表１に示す。

るが、ソリッドコア（solid core）を用いてもよい。
【００３８】一般的に、アミン硬化剤の当量が増加する
につれ、ポリ尿素の硬度が減少し、生成したポリ尿素か
ら形成されたカバーを採用するボールの弾性力と速度が
増加することが分った。したがって、実施例１に示した
イソシアネート反応物のような特定のイソシアネートに
ついて、イソシアネート基に対するアミン官能基の当量
比は、実施例２から４に示したようにアミン硬化剤を変
更することにより代えられる。実施例１から４について
のイソシアネート基に対するアミン官能基の当量比、並
びに生成したポリ尿素の硬度を表１に示す。

【００４０】アミン硬化剤の有用な当量は224 から791
までの範囲におよび、なかでも好ましくは427 から541
までの範囲、最も好ましくは427 である。ゴルフボール
のカバーとして有用なポリ尿素の硬度は、38から80まで
の範囲におよび、なかでも好ましくは50から57までの範
囲、最も好ましくは57である。
【００４１】本発明によれば、驚くべきことに、ポリ尿
素は広い温度範囲のもとでゴルフボールのカバーに形成
できることが分った。例えば、本発明のポリ尿素を、13
0 °Ｆの型温で圧縮成形することによりポリ尿素カバー
を有するゴルフボールに形成する場合、各々を反応させ
てポリ尿素を得る前に、イソシアネートおよびアミン硬
化剤を、375 °Ｆまで、好ましくは室温から210 °Ｆの
温度範囲、最も好ましくは120 °Ｆから180 °Ｆの温度
範囲に加熱してもよい。イソシアネートとアミン硬化剤
を反応させるのに要する時間は、一般的に、反応温度が
減少するにつれ増加する。一般的に、120 °Ｆから180
°Ｆまでの範囲の温度では、イソシアネートとアミン硬
化剤を反応させるのに要する時間は30秒から180 秒まで
である。
【００４２】ポリ尿素カバーを有するゴルフボールを製
造する際の成形条件は、使用するイソシアネートおよび
アミン反応体に依存する。しかしながら、硬化は通常、
少なくとも10分間に亘り、120 °Ｆから180 °Ｆの範囲
の温度、好ましくは130 °Ｆの温度まで加熱した型を用
いることにより行なわれる。具体的な時間と温度は当業
者にとっては容易に求められる。しかしながら、型温は
コアが損傷するほど高い温度とすべきではない。得られ
たボールは室温で数日間貯蔵して、最大限の強度と硬度
を発揮させる。
【００４３】本発明のポリ尿素組成物を用いたボールは
一般的に、85より大きい、好ましくは85から100 までの
ＰＧＡコンプレッションを有する。ショアＤのスケール
でのジュロメータ硬度は少なくとも48から70までの範囲
にあるべきである。標準の72インチ反発弾性試験におけ
る反発弾性は約56インチであるべきである。標準米国ゴ
ルフ協会ドライビングマシーンによる、ボールの初速度
は、少なくとも250 フィート／秒、好ましくは250 フィ
ート／秒から255 フィート／秒の範囲にあるべきであ
る。また、本発明のポリ尿素組成物から形成したカバー
を用いたボールにおいては、剪断抵抗と切傷抵抗が従来
のゴルフボールと比較して著しく改善された。

様が、本発明の範囲と精神を逸脱することなく実施可能
であり、本発明は、特定の実施態様に制限されるもので
はない。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 ゴルフボールのカバーの材料に適したポ
    リ尿素組成物であって、少なくとも２つのイソシアネー
    ト官能基を有する有機化合物と少なくとも２つのアミン
    官能基を有するアミン硬化剤との反応生成物からなるこ
    とを特徴とするポリ尿素組成物。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記イソシアネート官能基に対する前記
    アミン官能基の当量比が約1.55から約5.47の範囲にある
    ことを特徴とする請求項１記載のポリ尿素組成物。
  3. 【請求項３】 前記イソシアネート官能基に対する前記
    アミン官能基の当量比が約2.97であることを特徴とする
    請求項１記載のポリ尿素組成物。
  4. 【請求項４】 着色剤を含むことを特徴とする請求項１
    記載のポリ尿素組成物。
  5. 【請求項５】 前記有機化合物が約29％のイソシアネー

    チレンエーテルグリコール−ジ−ｐ−アミノベンゾエー
    ト、およびポリプロピレングリコール−ジ−ｐ−アミノ
    ベンゾエートからなる群より選択されることを特徴とす
    る請求項２記載のポリ尿素組成物。
  7. 【請求項７】 前記イソシアネートがカルボジイミド修
    飾ジフェニルメタン−４，４′−ジイソシアネートであ
    ることを特徴とする請求項５記載のポリ尿素組成物。
  8. 【請求項８】 前記ポリ尿素組成物が約57のショアＤ硬
    度を有することを特徴とする請求項７記載のポリ尿素組
    成物。
  9. 【請求項９】 コアおよび該コアの周りに形成されたカ
    バーからなるゴルフボールであって、該カバーが、少な
    くとも２つのイソシアネート官能基を有する有機化合物
    と少なくとも２つのアミン官能基を有するアミン硬化剤
    との反応生成物からなることを特徴とするゴルフボー
    ル。
  10. 【請求項１０】 前記イソシアネート官能基に対する前
    記アミン官能基の当量比が約1.55から約5.47の範囲にあ
    ることを特徴とする請求項９記載のゴルフボール。
  11. 【請求項１１】 前記イソシアネート官能基に対する前
    記アミン官能基の当量比が約2.97であることを特徴とす
    る請求項９記載のゴルフボール。
  12. 【請求項１２】 着色剤を含むことを特徴とする請求項
    ９記載のゴルフボール。
  13. 【請求項１３】 前記有機化合物が約29％のイソシアネ
    ート含有量を有することを特徴とする請求項１１記載の
    ゴルフボール。
  14. 【請求項１４】 前記アミン硬化剤が、ポリメチレン−
    ジ−ｐ−アミノベンゾエート、ポリエチレングリコール
    −ビス（４−アミノベンゾエート）、ポリジメチルシロ
    キサン−ビス（４−アミノベンゾエート）、ポリテトラ
    メチレンエーテルグリコール−ジ−ｐ−アミノベンゾエ
    ート、およびポリプロピレングリコール−ジ−ｐ−アミ
    ノベンゾエートからなる群より選択されることを特徴と
    する請求項１０記載のゴルフボール。
  15. 【請求項１５】 前記イソシアネートがカルボジイミド
    修飾ジフェニルメタン−４，４′−ジイソシアネートで
    あることを特徴とする請求項１３記載のゴルフボール。
  16. 【請求項１６】 前記ポリ尿素組成物が約57のショアＤ
