子でも発光部は赤外発光ダイオード、受光部はシリコン
フォトトランジスタという組み合わせが一般的である。
光結合素子であるフォトインタラプタは、図3に示すよ
うにハウジング15の上端部に所要の間隔を在して設け
られた一対の突起部内に、それぞれ発光部13と受光部
14とが相対向して配設され、突起部の相対向する面に
形成した透過孔16を通して、突起間に位置するものを
検出することができる構造となっており、モーターの回
転数制御、カード読取り装置やFAを目的とした装置な
どに使用されている。従来のフォトインタラプタにおい
ては、発光部13と受光部14が向かい合った構造であ
るため、発光素子13及び受光素子14であるディスク
リート部品をプリント配線基板17上にそれぞれを実装
する方式が一般的に採用されている。これらをより量産
的に、安価に生産するためにはチップ部品化された素子
をプリント基板に実装し、リフロー半田付処理をするS
MT(表面実装技術)を利用した方式が優れている。と
ころが、SMTを利用した方式では、発光素子及び受光
素子であるチップ部品は、プリント基板上の同一方向に
向いた位置に装着されるため、この構造では発光部から
の光を受光部が直接受光するこが出来ないという問題点
がある。

7は前記ハウジング1内に配設したSMT用プリント基
板で、前記突起部2、3に対応させて上端部に凸部8を
設け、下端部にはリード9が接続されている。また、前
記ハウジング1の傾斜面4、5に対向するように、前記
プリント基板7に設けられた凸部8にチップ部品である
発光素子10及び受光素子11がそれぞれ取付けられて
