Traditionally, sooty bamboo has been used as a material for furniture and crafts, etc. Bamboo used to construct the roofs of traditional Japanese-style thatched houses has been damaged over many years by the smoke rising from the hearth. It was obtained as waste material when re-thatching the roofs of such thatched houses.

It is also an object of the present invention to achieve mass production.

The method for producing sooty bamboo of the present invention, which can achieve the above-mentioned objectives, comprises contacting bamboo material with incomplete combustion gas of vegetable material and keeping it within the temperature range of 100-140℃ for more than 40 hours, and then for 20 hours. It is characterized by slowly cooling to room temperature over the above steps.

For example, bamboo materials loaded at appropriate intervals on a heat-resistant trolley are transported into a processing chamber lined with heat-resistant materials such as concrete or bricks, and then the plant materials generated from the attached combustion chamber are transported. A combustion gas containing smoke is sent to heat the bamboo material and smoke it.
