この発明は、不織布材料で構成された手術用ス
ポンジに関し、さらに詳しくは不織布材料の一体
的部分としてX線検出可能要素を含む手術用スポ
ンジに関する。

医療の分野において、手術用スポンジに、放射
線不透過性要素を含有させ、このようなスポンジ
が手術後に体内に不注意で残されたときに、X線
によつて検出することができるようにすることは
一般に行われている。この場合、手術用スポンジ
は、折りたたんだガーゼと不織布スワツプ、織成
および編成された開膜手術用バツド、およびコツ
トンボールを含む。

能要素を不織布構造中に導入する方法を提供する

ベルト上におくこと、およびこのウエブに、ベル
ト上に支持されている間に、複数の高圧流体ジエ
ツトを向け、支持ベルト上のパターンに一致した
パターンに繊維をからみ合わせることからなる。
からみ合つた繊維は、ベルト上でこれから離さ
れ、加熱ドラム上で乾燥されて、パターンつきの
不織布をつくる。この製造方法は、米国特許第
3068494821号および第3681184号に記載され、そ
してこの分野の技術者によく知られている。
み合せにしたがつてつくられた不織布から得られ

不織布は、天然および/または合成布材、たと
えば綿、レーヨン、アクリル、ポリエステルおよ
びナイロンの任意の組合わせからなつていてもよ
い。とくに好ましい繊維組成物は、70%のレーヨ
ン(1.5デニール、約3cmのステープル長)およ
び30%のポリエステル(1.5デニール、約3のス
テープル長)の配合物である。ステープル繊維は
配合され、ランダムな繊維配向を有するウエブを
つくるランドーウエツパー(Rando−webber)
のような通常の布処理装置上で繊維ウエブに変換
される。

過性X線検出可能要素が2つのウエブの間に置か
れる。この複合材料は、ベルトによつて流体から
み合わせ装置を通して選ばれ、その上で個々のウ
エブが統合されて、内部にX線検出可能要素を有
する単一の不織布を形成する。この複合不織布は
ベルトから離され、加熱ドラム上で乾燥され、ロ
ール上に集められる。
フアイバー配合物からつくられた2つの繊維ウエ
ブは、一方が他方の上になるように移動ベルト上

過性X線検出可能要素が2つのウエブの間に置か

が、重量の大きいものは、開腹手術用パツドのよ
うなある種の用途の製品には好ましいこともあ
る。

X線検出可能物質は、医療用X線にとつて受入
れられる程度のコントラストを与えるのに充分な
密度を有する連続的なフイラメント、ヤーンまた
はリボンであり得る。好ましいモノフイラメント
は、0.025インチ(約0.6mm)の直径の、60%の硫
酸バリウムを含有するポリ塩化ビニルである。適
当なヤーンは、40〜45%の硫酸バリウムを含有す
るビスコースステープルからつくられ、これは60
テツクスシングルスのヤーンに紡糸される。4,
6または8ブライのヤーンが不織布中に導入する

発明のスポンジの特性として、X線検出可能要素
は、流体ジエツト上にベルト側と比べて布側によ
り軽い不織布のカバーを有し、したがつてこの側
からより見えやすい性質を有する。この見えやす
さは、布の流体ジエツト側をスポンジの他側に重
ねるようにスポンジを折りたたんだときに利用し

る。

離れた複数の列を有する幅の広い不織布をつく

素を有するように、スポンジに要求されるせまい
幅に分割することも詳容する。この製造方法にお
いて、1または複数のX線検出可能要素は、最も
有利には、機械の方向に、互いに離れた状態で、
ランダムな繊維ウエブ間に位置される。あるい
は、X線検出可能要素は、正弦波形、円形その他
の任意のパターンのウエブ間に置かれてもよい。
さらにX線検出可能要素は、完成したスポンジ製
品が医療用X線における適切な検出性を与えるの
に充分な量の要素を含むように、不連続に設ける
こともできる。
離れた複数の列を有する幅の広い不織布をつく
り、ついで各々が1または複数のX線検出可能要
素を有するように、スポンジに要求されるせまい
幅に分割することも詳容する。この製造方法にお
いて、1または複数のX線検出可能要素は、最も
有利には、機械の方向に、互いに離れた状態で、
ランダムな繊維ウエブ間に位置される。あるい
は、X線検出可能要素は、正弦波形、円形その他
の任意のパターンのウエブ間に置かれてもよい。
さらにX線検出可能要素は、完成したスポンジ製
品が医療用X線における適切な検出性を与えるの
に充分な量の要素を含むように、不連続に設ける
こともできる。
第1図を参照すると、ここに図示されたこの発
明の手術用スポンジは、折りたたまれた不織布1
0からなり、これはX線検出可能要素13および
14を含む。第2図に示された単一の不織布10
は、均一な開放パターンを有し、そして流体によ
つてからみ合わされている布である。不織布を形
成している2層の複合ウエブは、最終製品では識
別することはできないが、図解のために第2図で
はこれらは別々に示されている。製造工程では、
第1の層11を形成する繊維ウエブが支持ベルト
上に配置され、そしてこのウエブ上にX線検出可
能要素13および14が置かれる。ついで第2層

強い結合強度をもつ。この不織布は、支持ベルト
とは逆のパターンに形成され、そしてベルトの孔
の寸法および間隔に応じて、微細な多孔質のシー
トから、開放されたガーゼ状の材料に及ぶ範囲の
外観をもつ。第3図に示される代表的な布のデザ
インは、基本的な方形のパターンであり、これは
機械の方向および方向と交差する方向に密集し、
そしてからみ合つた繊維15および16の等間隔
の列を有する。布の内部に位置する放射線不透過

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1 一体的なX線検出可能要素を含む手術用スポ
ンジであつて、相互に連なるパターンの関係で配
置されたからみ合つた繊維から主としてなる繊維
性の不織布、および上記繊維性不織布の内部に位
置する少なくとも一つのX線検出可能要素を備
え、上記不織布の繊維が流体からみ合わせによ
り、上記X線検出可能要素のまわりにからみ合つ
ている手術用スポンジ。 2 上記X線検出可能要素はヤーンであり、上記
不織布の繊維が上記ヤーンの繊維に、からみ合つ
ている特許請求の範囲第1項記載の手術用スポン
ジ。 3 上記ヤーンは、40から50パーセントの硫酸バ
リウムを含有するビスコース繊維の、多層のより
合わされたヤーンである特許請求の範囲第2項記
載の手術用スポンジ。 4 上記ヤーンは、40から50パーセントの硫酸バ
リウムを含有するビスコース繊維の、多層のより
合わされたヤーンである特許請求の範囲第2項記
載の手術用スポンジ。 5 上記X線検出可能要素は、約60パーセントの
硫酸バリウムを含有する熱可塑性高分子物質から
なるモノフイラメントである特許請求の範囲第1
項記載の手術用スポンジ。 6 上記熱可塑性高分子物質は、ポリイソブチレ
ン、ポリ塩化ビニル、および酢酸ビニルと塩化ビ
ニルの共重合体からなる群から選ばれている特許
請求の範囲第1項記載の手術用スポンジ。 7 上記モノフイラメントの上および下を交差し
ている不織布繊維が上記モノフイラメントの表面
の中に埋められている特許請求の範囲第1項記載
の手術用スポンジ。
