視力障害を生じるレーザの照射の危険は眼の健
康上問題となつている。そのためそのような危険
に対して適切な眼の保護を保証する手段が要求さ
れている。一般的に眼の保護装置は広い帯域幅に
わたつて入射する放射を阻止する広いスペクトル
範囲を有している。眼の保護装置は強い放射の短
いパルスから眼を保護するために充分迅速に装置
が応答することを保証するようにゼロ応答時間を
有していなければならない。それは入射する放射
の角度や偏光に無関係に動作されなければならな
い。それはまた赤外線範囲に近い可視光のエネル
ギに感じなければならない。装置は迅速な回復時
間と高いダメージしきい値を持たなければならな

によつて使用される400〜700nmのスペクトル範
囲の画像を生じ、自動的に過剰の高い強度の放射
を吸収する。しかしながらもしも入力光強度が液
晶光バルブ20のダイナミツクレンジから外れる
ならば、すなわち1cm2当たり数百マイクロワツト
に達するならば、出力画像は若干ぼける。この画
像のぼけの程度は入力光強度に比例する。入射し
たレーザ光パルスが約107W/cm2を越えるとき、
シリコンウエハ上に局部的なダメージが現れる。
読取り光強度(約100μW/cm2)は使用される
LED(発光ダイオード)の電流によつて制御さ
れ、LEDは9ボルトのバツテリまたは太陽電池
によつて給電される。したがつて50W/cm2以上の
ような潜在的にブラインドにするレベルの高い強
度のビームは観察者の眼に安全な輝度レベルで入
射するように大きさが5桁以上減少されることが
できる。
液晶光バルブゴーグルはまた危険物位置検出装
置、レンジフアインダまたは目標指示装置として
作用するためにヘツドアツプ表示装置に含まれる
こともできる。

第2図に戻ると、発光ダイオード(LED)5
4は左右のゴーグル32と34の間の装置10の
フレーム35内に取付けられている。第3図およ
び第4図に示すようにLEDからの光は読取りを
容易にするように偏光ビーム分割器40によりガ
ラス32における光バルブの観察面に投入され
る。電力消費を節約するために周囲光が日中は開
放された窓(例えばゴーグルの上部に設けられ
る)から導入されてLEDの代りに利用される。

フレーム35内に取付けられている。第3図およ
び第4図に示すようにLEDからの光は読取りを
容易にするように偏光ビーム分割器40によりガ
ラス32における光バルブの観察面に投入され
る。電力消費を節約するために周囲光が日中は開
放された窓(例えばゴーグルの上部に設けられ
る)から導入されてLEDの代りに利用される。

第4図は白色光照明を使用してカラー表示を形
成するカラーフイルタ56を示している。このカ
ラーフイルタ56は光導電体および誘電体ミラー
側の各画素上に付着されている。

寒冷状態で液晶光バルブを動作させることがで
きるように、加熱電極(図示せず)が液晶光バル
ブ構造の適当な熱絶縁手段と組合わせて使用され
ることができる。周囲から適当に熱絶縁されれ
ば、液晶光バルブの温度を維持するために必要な
熱の供給に人間の体温を利用することが可能であ
ろう。

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1 画像シーンを供給するための液晶光バルブ
と、 観察を容易にするためにこの液晶光バルブを支
持する手段とを具備していることを特徴とする眼
の保護装置。 2 対物レンズが前記光バルブの光路に沿つて取
付けられている請求項1記載の装置。 3 接眼レンズが前記光バルブの光軸に沿つて取
付けられている請求項2記載の装置。 4 画像シーンを供給するための2個の反射液晶
光バルブと、 光路に沿つて各光バルブに対してそれぞれ1個
づつ取付けられている対物レンズと、 光軸に沿つて各光バルブに対してそれぞれ1個
づつ取付けられている接眼レンズと、 観察を容易にするために前記液晶光バルブを支
持する手段とを具備していることを特徴とする眼

置。 12 前記光バルブを支持する手段は前記装置が
設置されているヘルメツト上に取付けられたカウ
ンターウエイトを具備している請求項1または4
のいずれか1項記載の装置。
