Abstract

PURPOSE:To securely connect a printed circuit board to a flexible cable by providing a window structure where a cover lay film and base film as component elements of the flexible cable are removed for exposure of contact terminal portions. CONSTITUTION:A flexible cable 1 is provided with contact terminal portions 2 connected to terminal portions 7 of a printed circuit board 6, and is constituted of a cover lay film 4 and base film 5 for fixing a pattern continuous to the contact terminal portions 2 in a vertically sandwiched manner. The contact terminal portions 2 have terminal portion windows 3 for exposing the contact terminal portions 2 after removing the cover lay film 4 and the base film 5. With the window structure where the cover lay film 4 and base film 5 as component elements of the flexible cable 1 are removed for exposure of the contact terminal portions 2, the printed circuit board 6 and the flexible cable 1 can be connected securely and easily without any short-circuiting.

Conventionally, this type of flexible cable is as shown in Fig. 3(a).
, (b) and FIGS. 4(a) to (e), the pattern connected to the contact terminal part 2 is sandwiched between the base film 5 and the coverlay film 4 from above and below, and the contact terminal part 2 is
For this, remove the base film 4 to expose it, fit the contact terminal part 2 to the terminal part 7 of the printed circuit board 6 to be connected, supply solder between the two, and then overlap the two to form the cover layer of the flexible cable. The connection was made by heating from the film 4 side with a soldering iron 9 or the like to melt the solder supplied between the two.

In the conventional flexible cable described above, the contact terminal part 2 of the flexible cable 1 is connected to the terminal part 7 of the printed circuit board 6.
When trying to connect by melting solder, the contact terminal part 2 of the flexible cable is covered with a cover lay film 2.
Since the flexible cable is covered by a coverlay film 2, the heat generated when heating with a soldering iron 9 or the like is dissipated by the coverlay film 2, and the heat transmitted to the contact terminal portion 2 of the flexible cable is small.
For this reason, the solder 8 supplied between the contact terminal part 2 of the flexible cable and the terminal part 7 of the printed circuit board is melted.
<There was a drawback that it took a lot of man-hours to connect the two by melting the solder, and the connection did not work well, resulting in poor connection between the two.

Furthermore, if a short circuit occurs between the contact terminal portions of the flexible cable due to excessive solder, etc., there is a drawback that a large number of man-hours are required to correct the short circuit.

This flexible cable is connected to a printed circuit board 6 having a terminal portion 7 at a position compatible with the contact terminal portion 2 of the flexible cable 1. At this time, the terminal section 7 of the printed circuit board 6
It is assumed that solder 8 is supplied in advance by solder plating or the like to connect both the contact terminal portion 2 of the flexible cable and the printed circuit board terminal portion 7 by melting.

This is shown in FIGS. 2(a), (b), and (c). Second
As shown in Figure (c), it is possible to heat the contact terminal section 2 of the flexible cable directly below with a soldering iron 9, and the solder 8 supplied between the main contact terminal section 2 and the printed circuit board terminal section 7 is heated. Heat is easily transferred to the solder 8, and the solder 8 is melted.

At this time, since the contact terminal portions 2 have a window structure separated by the coverlay film 4 and the base film 5, the base film 5 is inserted between the terminal portions of the printed circuit board terminal portions 7 and is blocked. It is possible to prevent the molten solder 8 from flowing to adjacent terminals of the printed circuit board terminal section 7 and cause a short circuit, and to make a good connection between the contact terminal section 2 of the flexible cable 1 and the printed circuit board terminal section 7. . This is shown in FIGS. 2(d) and (e).
