[Prior Art] In magnetic disks used as recording media in magnetic disk devices, data is recorded and reproduced while the magnetic head is aerodynamically levitated at minute intervals. It is necessary to remove. A conventional method for cleaning a magnetic disk is generally to wipe off dust by bringing paper or cloth into contact with the surface of the disk while the magnetic disk is being rotated.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] The above-mentioned conventional techniques use paper or cloth, which makes it difficult to clean the entire disk surface, and the contact method may adversely affect the coating film on the disk surface. This raises the issue of gender. In addition, the technology described in the above-mentioned publication is a contact type for grinding the surface of a flexible disk, so
After all, there was a possibility that the paint film on the disk surface would be damaged.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present invention provides that the radius of the magnetic disk is adjusted while the head is floating above the magnetic disk stored in the storage section at an optimal flying height for cleaning. This can be solved by moving the storage area in the direction of the storage area and discharging the atmosphere within the storage area or collecting dust.

[Function] The head seeks over the disk at an optimal flying height for cleaning, for example, a lower flying height than when recording and reproducing data, thereby peeling off dust adhering to the surface of the magnetic disk, and removing the peeled off dust. Can be discharged to the outside or collected.

In this embodiment, a magnetic disk device having one magnetic disk is shown, but this may be a magnetic disk device having a plurality of magnetic disks. In this case, the cleaning head 2 is provided corresponding to a plurality of magnetic disks. Although not shown in this embodiment, the present magnetic disk device also includes a magnetic head for performing normal recording and reproduction, and a seek mechanism for moving these heads. Further, in the above description, the air intake section 7 and the fan 8 are provided to suck the atmosphere inside the shroud 9, but instead of these, a filter may be provided in the air flow path to suck dust.

Now, in the magnetic disk device configured in this way, the cleaning head 2 seeks at least once in the radial direction of the magnetic disk 1 while the magnetic disk 1 is being rotated via the spindle 3. Dust adhering to the surface is removed from the disk surface by the cleaning head 2 and further sucked by the suction section 7 and fan 8.

The cleaning head 2 can adjust the floating spacing of the head by changing the highly hard head shape or the relative speed with the disk, that is, the rotational speed of the disk. It is possible to remove minute dust with a lower flying height than pacing. In addition, in the above embodiment, a head for cleaning was provided separately, but if there is a limitation in the space of the shroud 9, etc., it may be possible to seek by using a normal magnetic head with a flying height lower than the normal flying spacing. It is also possible to obtain the same effect as the above embodiment.

In the above embodiment, the present invention is applied to a magnetic disk device, but the present invention may also be applied to a cleaning device that performs similar cleaning before installing a magnetic disk into the device. In this case, the cleaning device is the same as the previous embodiment except that the shroud is replaced by a chamber. In this case, the magnetic head for recording and reproducing may not be provided, but it may be provided when checking the recording and reproducing.
