Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the circuit and to reduce the manufacture cost by providing a function which controls the rotational frequency of a cooling fan according to the mode setting state of the power saving mode of a processor. CONSTITUTION:The power-saving function determines the power-saving mode by setting an optional value in a power-saving register 3 and divides the frequency of the operation clock of the processor. The frequency of the operation clock of the processor is divided to reduce a device processing speed and the power consumption of the processor is reduced. Here, a mode decoding part 4 decodes the set value of the power saving register 3 and a voltage control part 5 controls a voltage supplied to the cooling fan 6 according to the result. Consequently, the need for a temperature sensor, a temperature-voltage converting circuit, etc., is eliminated, the circuit is simplified, and the manufacture cost is reduced.

動作クロックを分周することにより、デバイス処理速度
を下げ、プロセッサの消費電力を低減する。またこれに
よりプロセッサの発熱量が低減される。ここで、モード
デコード部4によりパワーモードレジスタ3の設定値を
デコードし、その結果により電圧制御部5により冷却フ
ァン6に供給する電圧を制御する。例えば上記の様にE
ピッ1−を″1′としFl、FOビットをそれぞれ′″
0′、′″1′とした場合、冷却ファンに供給する電圧
を1/2の電圧とする。冷却ファンに供給する電圧を制
御することにより、冷却ファンの回転数を制御する。冷
却ファンに供給する電圧はプロセッサの発熱量に合わせ
てあらかじめ決めておき、見合った電圧を供給するもの
とする。以上の様にして、プロセッサのパワーセーブ時
の冷却ファンの消費電力、騒音等を低減する。
