The present invention relates to a termite control agent containing a certain type of catechol derivative or hydroquinone as an active ingredient. Damage to houses and trees caused by termites has been steadily increasing in recent years, and in Japan alone, the amount of damage is said to reach tens of billions of yen annually. Therefore, various studies have been conducted on termite control measures, and a considerable number of termite control agents have actually been put into practical use. However, termites live in many places where it is difficult to apply termiticides, such as the soil under floors and the wood of foundations, so it is difficult to apply termiticides in many places. A large amount of termiticide may be used to ensure that the condition lasts. In such cases, on the one hand, safety issues for vertebrates arise. In other words, if a termite control agent is to be applied to the foundations or soil of houses and livestock sheds, it is a matter of course that it must be highly safe for vertebrates. The present inventors have continued their research in search of a termite control agent that has excellent termite control effects and is highly safe for vertebrates, and as a result, they have found that a certain type of catechol derivative or hydroquinone derivative satisfies the requirements. The present inventors have found that this is the case, and have completed various studies to complete the present invention. That is, the present invention provides hydroquinone, 2,3-
This termite control agent contains dihydroxytoluene, 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol, 3,4-dimethoxytoluene, or pt-butylveratrol as an active ingredient. The above-mentioned active ingredients may be used alone or in combination of two or more. These active ingredients can be used as is, but
Usually, this can be diluted with water or a suitable organic solvent and used as a water solvent or oil agent, and further emulsifiers, penetrants, stabilizers, extenders, binders, propellants, etc. can be added to form emulsions. It may also be used in dosage forms such as powders, granules, and aerosols. The concentration of the active ingredient in the preparation and the amount of application of the preparation can be selected arbitrarily depending on the dosage form, application method, wood treatment or soil treatment, prevention or extermination, type of termites, degree of damage caused by termites, etc. . However, the practical content of the active ingredient is 0.1 to 20% by weight in the case of liquids, powders, etc.
1 to 10% by weight is more practical. The termite control agent of the present invention includes Yamato termite,
It is extremely effective in controlling termites such as house termites. The termite control agent of the present invention can be used to apply the active ingredient itself or its preparation to termite infestation areas, nests, and building materials such as foundations and pillars where termite damage is to be prevented.
Applying, spraying, dipping, pouring, or
It can be applied by spraying, mixing, kneading, etc. It can also be used in combination with other termite control agents depending on the situation of termite occurrence and damage. Since damage caused by termites usually progresses at the same time as decay caused by wood-decaying fungi, it is especially beneficial to use a preservative in combination. There is absolutely no problem in using other anti-haunting agents as well. Although the termite control agent of the present invention is useful for the prevention and extermination of termites, it is more suitable for prevention due to its unique termite-killing performance. In many cases, termites treated with the termite control agent of the present invention exhibit abnormalities in their antennae, such as browning or cutting, damage to their legs, and decreased sensitivity to smell and heat, which may lead to death. Even in those cases, people often lose their daily functions. Therefore, it seems that the termite control agent of the present invention exhibits termite control performance through a mechanism of action that is different from that of conventional termite control agents. in this way,
While the termite control agent of the present invention exhibits unique physiological activity, it has low toxicity to vertebrates, does not contain harmful heavy metals, and does not contain halogens, so there is no risk of accumulation and concentration in the natural environment.
That is, conventional termite control agents, for example,
Considering that the mainstream were those that contained harmful metals such as CCA agents (a mixture of chromium compounds, copper compounds, and arsenic compounds), and those that had a high risk of environmental pollution such as aldrin, deirdrin, heptachlor, and chlordane. , the termite control agent of the present invention has great industrial significance. Next, the present invention will be explained by giving examples. Example 1 A piece of paper (diameter 8.45 cm,
2g) was impregnated with a methanol solution containing 11mg of each of the active ingredients shown in Table 1. After leaving the paper for 24 hours, 2.5 ml of distilled water was added dropwise to remove 30% of the paper.
Three soldier ants were introduced and observed daily for two weeks.
The results of the efficacy test are shown in Table 1. From the results shown in Table 1, it can be seen that the active ingredient of the present invention has great insecticidal performance against termites.

[Table] ○ The antennae have turned black and have been cut off from the segment.
△ The antennae are browned.
× The antennae remain white and no other abnormalities are observed.
Example 2 An oil solution containing 5% of the active ingredient was prepared by dissolving 2,3-dihydroxytoluene in a mixed solvent of petroleum and alcohol. Using this oil (preventive agent), we tested the anti-termite efficacy test method (JTCAS-1) for preventive agents specified by the Japan White Ant Countermeasures Association.
When an efficacy test was carried out in accordance with the laboratory test of No. 1), no weight reduction rate was observed in the treated specimens. On the other hand, the untreated test specimen showed a weight reduction rate of 26%. The results of this efficacy test show that the termite control agent (prophylactic agent) of the present invention has sufficient termite control performance. Example 3 pt-Butylveratrol 8 parts by weight Clay 89 Surfactant 1 α-starch 2 Water 15 After kneading the above composition in a kneader, it was made into granules using a granulator, and then granulated using a hot air dryer. 4% dry
Granules containing pt-butylveratrol were prepared. This granule (soil treatment agent) was subjected to an efficacy test at a test site in Fukiagehama, Kagoshima Prefecture, in accordance with the anti-termite efficacy test method for soil treatment agents (JTCAS-No. 4) specified by the Japan White Ant Countermeasures Association. As a result, the test piles in the soil-treated area showed no termite damage even after one year, while the control piles in the untreated area were so damaged that they lost their original shape, and the damage rate was 80%.
% or more. The results of this efficacy test show that the termite control agent (soil treatment agent) of the present invention has sufficient performance.
