In diesel engines, in order to increase the effect of engine braking, a valve is installed in the engine's exhaust pipe to block the exhaust pipe at a predetermined time or throttle the engine to act as a compressor and perform braking. The exhaust retarder is the main brake (friction type brake). It is used together with. A negative pressure operated diaphragm device is generally used as a valve actuator, and the valve is opened and closed by selectively applying negative pressure and atmospheric air to the diaphragm device. An air cleaner having a built-in filter for introducing clean air is provided at the air introduction portion for operating the actuator, that is, for releasing negative pressure. However, since the filter element of conventional air cleaners is placed directly at the air intake, muddy water and the like tend to adhere thereto, which may cause the filter to become clogged. If the filter becomes clogged, atmospheric air cannot be introduced, making it impossible to release the exhaust retarder.

FIG. 1 shows the entire system of an exhaust retarder. The exhaust retarder is composed of a valve 5 provided in an exhaust pipe 3 of an engine (diesel engine) 1 and a diaphragm actuator 7 for opening and closing the valve 5. The negative pressure working chamber 9 of the actuator 7 is connected to the conduit 11
It is selectively connected to the atmosphere and a negative pressure source (vacuum pump) via a negative pressure switching electromagnetic switch 15. Negative pressure changeover switch 15 outputs the ON signal for the accelerator pedal switch and the ON signal for the clutch pedal switch.
ON signal, vehicle speed signal and neutral switch
The switching operation is performed by a control signal S' from the relay computer 13 in response to various parameter signals S such as an OFF signal. At this time, fuel injection is also cut off. The configuration and operation of the exhaust retarder itself are well known, and are not directly related to the present invention, so a detailed explanation will be omitted.

The present invention relates to an air cleaner 21 installed at the intake port of the atmospheric air introduction pipe 19 for releasing the negative pressure in the negative pressure working chamber 9 of the actuator 7, that is, releasing the operation of the valve 5 (opening the valve). The air cleaner 21 is contaminated with atmospheric dust, etc.
It is provided to prevent the negative pressure from entering the negative pressure working chamber 9, and has a filter 31 (FIG. 2) inside. However, in the past, as described above, the filter in the air cleaner 21 was directly exposed to the air intake, so muddy water and the like were likely to adhere thereto, potentially causing the filter to become clogged. Therefore, according to the present invention, the air cleaner is improved as shown in FIG. In FIG. 2, the upper end of the cylindrical dust cover 30 placed upright is connected to the atmosphere introduction pipe 19, and the bottom end 30A is open to the atmosphere. A filter (element) 31 is attached to the upper end of the dust cover 30 by a retainer 39, and a cap air cleaner element 3 is attached to the lower part of the dust cover 30.
5 and a separator air cleaner element 37 are attached. Both elements are provided with an appropriate number of ventilation holes. According to the present invention, a plurality of (three in the figure) baffle plates 41, 43, and 45 having ventilation holes are provided upstream of the cap air cleaner element 35 in the dust cover 30. These baffle plates are mortar-shaped (approximately V-shaped in cross section), and have respective ventilation holes 41A, 43A, 4.
The vertical direction is appropriately determined according to the arrangement of 5A. That is, the reason why the baffle plates 41, 43, and 45 are made into mortars is to collect the muddy water that has passed through the mortar into the ventilation hole along the taper of the baffle plate and discharge it downward from there. When the ventilation hole is located at the center as in 43, the air hole is arranged in a concave shape, and when the air hole is formed near the periphery as in baffle plates 41 and 45, it is arranged in a convex shape. . The shape, arrangement, number, etc. of the ventilation holes are not limited to those shown in the drawings, but they may be arranged offset so that the ventilation holes of adjacent baffle plates are not on the same straight line when viewed in the direction of air flow (arrow). is important. In other words, by twisting the atmospheric flow path like a "labyrinth",
The muddy water that has passed through the ventilation hole 41A of the most upstream baffle plate 41 is blocked by the second baffle plate 43 downstream thereof,
Furthermore, the muddy water that has passed through the ventilation hole 43A of the second baffle plate 43 is blocked by the third baffle plate 45 downstream thereof, and the dust is removed from the open bottom end 30A of the baffle plate 41, 43, and the weight of the muddy water. It is based on the concept of self-draining with the 45 mortar shape. Therefore, the center ventilation hole 43A of the second baffle plate 43 can be replaced with, for example, the first and third baffle plates 41, 45.
Similarly to the ventilation holes 41A and 45A, a plurality of ventilation holes may be formed on the periphery, but in that case, the phase (mounting angle position) of the second baffle plate 43 is the same as that of the first and third baffle plates. For example, the baffle plate 43 may be arranged to have a convex shape. As a result, the ventilation hole of the second baffle plate 43 is located exactly in the center of the ventilation holes of the other baffle plates 41 and 45 (offset by 60 degrees) when viewed in the direction of air flow.

Preferably, the total passage area of the ventilation holes formed in each baffle plate is equal to the passage area of the introduction pipe 19, so that each baffle plate does not act as an intake resistance. That is, the ventilation holes 41A, 43A, 45A
Let S 1 , S 2 , and S 3 be the passage areas of the inlet tubes, respectively, and S be the passage area of the introduction pipe 19. In the illustrated embodiment, 3S 1 =S 2 =3S 3 =S.

Incidentally, the total passage area of the respective ventilation holes of the elements 35 and 37 is preferably also equal to S. If the number of baffle plates is increased, the effect of preventing muddy water intrusion will become even more remarkable.

By arranging the special baffle plate upstream of the filter element as described above, it is possible to effectively prevent muddy water and the like from entering the filter element, and also to self-discharge the collected dust and prevent clogging thereof.
