Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は液状インク中に設けられた可動片を静電力で変
位せしめて、ノズルよりのインク噴射を制御して文字・
図形を形成するプリンタヘッドの構成に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
従来技術による本発明に係るプリンタヘッドの実施例を
第6図に示す。30はノズル30aを有するノズル基材
、32は発熱体33を有する背面基材、31は液状イン
ク34を挟持するスペーサである。
ここで、発熱体33を急激に電気的に加熱すると、発熱
体33の周りのインクを気化して高圧となり、ノズル3
0aよりインク粒35が矢印の方向に飛出して記録紙上
に付着して文字・図形を形成する。
ところが、プリントデユーティによっては加熱するイン
クの温度上昇によりインク特性が変化してインク粒35
の大きさが大きくバラツク様になり、見苦しい文字・図
形となる。加熱体33は急激な温度サイクルを受ける為
、耐久性が問題となる。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
しかし、前述の従来技術ではインク粒の大きさのバラツ
キによるプリント品質とプリンタヘッドの耐久性が悪い
という問題点を有する。
そこで本発明はこの様な問題点を解決するもので、その
目的はインク中に設けた可動片を静電的に変位と解放さ
せることで安定したインク粒を形成すると同時に半永久
的耐久寿命のあるプリンタヘッドの提供にある。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
本発明のプリンタヘッドは、液状インクが随時供給充填
されているプリンタヘッドに於て、次の特徴を有するも
のである。
(1)主たる構成要素が所定のピッチでノズルを形成し
ているノズル基材、このノズル基材のノズル部に対向し
て可動部を有して共通電極でもある可動電極部材、及び
この可動電極部材に対向して個別に電圧印加と解放を制
御される個別電極を有する固定電極基材よりなり、待機
状態では前記可動電極部材の可動部を前記固定電極基材
側へ静電吸引させて置き選択的に開放することにより前
記液状インクを前記ノズル基材より噴出せしめる為、温
度上昇等のプリント品質を損う要因が発生しない、又前
記可動電極部材の可動部は疲労限界以内で作動させる故
、破壊されることなく半永久的となる。
(2)前記可動電極部材の可動部を前記固定電極基材の
電極部より伸長して先端部の振幅を大にすることにより
、前記可動電極部材の可動部の変位を減らすことにより
静電力の変位による変化量を低減する。
(3)前記固定電極基材側の液状インクの留部を充分大
ならしめてインク供給を円滑にする。
(4)前記可動電極部材と固定基材の対向電数を2分割
してほぼ同一面で所定間隔を有して前記所定ピッチずら
した対向関係にすることにより相互影響を低減する。
(5)前記可動電極部材の可動部の固有振動周波数を噴
射最大操返周彼数の2倍にして、可動部の変位Iを安定
化する。
(6)前記可動電極部材の可動部の解放のタイミングを
変更することによりプリンタヘッドへ流れ込む電流又は
電力を平均化する。
〔作用〕
本発明の上記の構成によれば、安定したインク供給と可
動電極部材の可動部の変位量が得られ、安定したインク
粒が発生して高品質のプリント文字・図形が得られる。
又疲労部がないので寿命も半永久的なプリンタヘッドが
得られる。
(実施例〕 第1図は本発明の実施例の正面断面図(a)と側断面図
(b)の具体例を示す図である。
1は固定電極基材でインク留部1aと固定電極3を有し
ている。固定電極3は第1図では上下分配されて独立に
制御されるもので3a部と3b部を持っている。2は固
定電極基材lのインク留部1aの蓋をする蓋部材で、使
用インクが常温で固体の場合は加熱して溶融させる発熱
体でもある。
5は可動電極部材で固定電極3aと3bに対向して可動
部5aと5bを有する共通電極である。
可動部5aと5bの配置ピッチは合せて得ようとする文
字・図形のドツト密度に関係付けている。
可動電極部材5の静止部は可動部5aと5bの振動相互
影響を小さくする為に充分厚くする等で剛性を大きくす
る。
7はノズル基材で可動部5aと5bに対応してノズル7
aと7bを有する。
4は可動電極部材5と固定電極基材1の電極3間の静止
状態での間隔を定めるスペーサである。
9aと9bは固定電極3aと3bに制御電圧を与える制
御部である。
10は多数点で示した液状のインクである。このインク
はバイブにより随時供給される。パイプはプリンタヘッ
ドの大きさによって、インク供給が円滑に行く様に図示
とは異なる位置、又は数を増加させる場合もある。
ここで、制御部9aと9bより電極間に電圧印加すると
可動部5はクーロンカ又は静電力で撓む。
この時、急激に電極間に蓄積された電荷を排出すると可
動部5aと5bは解放されて、固有振動周波数に関係し
た速度でノズル7aと7b方向に振動・変位する。この
力でインク1oの一部がノズル7aと7bよりインク粒
8aと8bになって矢印の方向に噴出する。
可動部5aと5bの変位の状態を示すのが第4図である
。第4図で可動部の変位が固定電極3側へのものを正と
した0図中最小操返周期Tと平担部のτと記したものは
、τは可動部が所定の撓み1でほぼ安定している最小時
間で、この時が安定してインク2を操返噴射出来る最小
操返周期Tとなる。
換言すれば、プリンタヘッド最大操返応答周波数である
この一連の動作を説明するのが第2図の制御図である。
第2図は3個のノズルに対応したもので実際は9ノズル
から大型の3000ノズルまである。可動電極部材5と
固定電極3との関係は平面に展開して示した。
17は高圧電源、V 2= 100〜500v程度に選
ぶ、16は制御部9(第1図では9aと9bで示した)
に供給する電源でv1=4〜20V程度である。制御部
9はプリントデータ15を受付ける処理部14とこの処
理部14より所定のタイミングで制御されるトランジス
タ列13よりなる。トランジスタ列13の非導通部分で
は、電源17は抵抗12を介して固定電極3に高圧v2
を与える。これに対応した可動部5a又は5bは変位さ
せられる。この時、トランジスタ列を導通させるとトラ
ンジスタの導通抵抗は抵抗により極めて小さい故、電極
間の寄生容量に蓄積された電荷を急激に吸収出来る。電
荷がなくなると電極間静電力は発生しないから可動部5
a又5bは固有自由振動に移る。
この時のインクへの圧力がノズル7a又は7bの噴出力
になる。
次に第3図で可動部を待機状態にするにトランジスタ1
9が導通時に行う場合を説明する。この場合は、待機時
に抵抗18にも電流が流れているので効率が悪い、又可
動部の固有自由振動への移行もトランジスタ19を非導
通にして抵抗18により寄主客1の電荷を吸収するので
、余り良好とはいえないが方法としては存在する故、図
示した。
尚、記述が遅れたが第1図の固定電極3aと3bに被せ
た6は、可動部5aと5bが固定電極3aと3bに接触
して直流電流が流れるのを防止する絶縁体である。又イ
ンクも絶縁物が望ましいが、この場合の直流電流防止の
役目も有する。
ここで、前述の説明では定性的であったが、定量的説明
を加える。
対向電極間距離をXとすれば、電極間の単位面積当りの
寄、主客jlcpは、Cp=εsao/xt’ある。印
加電圧をVoとすれば、CI)に蓄積されるエネルギー
Eは、E=CpVo2/2t’ある。Q生ずる圧力Ps
は、 Ps=−dE/dx=εsεoVo2/ (2x2)こ
こに、εOは真空中の誘電率、εSは比誘電率である。
εSは5〜8程度が普通である。
ここで、EO=8.85X10−12F/m2.  !
s=5.  x=10−’m、  Vo=400Vで、
 Ps=3. 5xlO’N/m”=0. 35気圧。
実験的にPs=0.2気圧以上で可動部の長さ1=2m
mで先端の変位5μmが得られる。この程度の諸量でイ
ンク粒を適切に飛翔させることが出来る。
又最大繰返周波数は上記の諸量で15KHzである。可
動部の固有振動周波数は第4rflJで明らかなように
最大繰返周波数の2倍以上に選ぶ、この様にしないと、
前の状態に影響されて可動部の作動が不安定になるから
である。
ところで、先述したノズルが3000個もある場合、第
2図の抵抗の値をIMΩとして同時に作動させると電源
17からの電流工は、I=400V/1mQx3000
=1.2A  14M電力では1.2Ax400V=4
80W1mもなる。
これでは、電源17の設計とコストが大変である。そこ
で、3000個の可動部の解放を同時ではなく順次又は
グループ化したタイミングで実行すれば電源17の負荷
が低減出来る6例えば、30グループの時分割でやれば
30分の1に低減出来る。この場合、ドツトライン形成
の位置がずれるがノズルが3000個ものに於ては、ド
ツト形成ピッチが60〜80μm程度であるので、視覚
的には問題ない。
尚、動作電圧を下降させるには、比誘電率の大きいもの
例えば水のε5=aOを使用すれば、4小さくしても良
い、この場合は、インクの電界強度による破壊に注意が
必要である。
尚更には、第1図でノズル列を2列で図示しているが、
文字・図形の構成ドツト密度が小さい場合には1列でも
構わない。
尚又更には、ドツト密度を上げるには、可能な限りノズ
ルピッチを小さくする方法と、文字・図形形成方向に対
してヘッドノズルラインを傾斜を持たせる方法もある。
この場合は、制御タイミングが多少面倒になる。
次に、第5図で本発明の他の実施例を説明する。
図は部分側断面図を示すが、構成要素は第1図と変らず
同じ番号で示す。
可動部5aと5bを固定電極3aと3bに対して伸長す
る。これに従ってインク留部1aを大きく図示しである
。この様にすると対向する部分での変位を小さくしても
可動部5aと5bの先端部の振幅は大きく出来る。とこ
ろで、第1図と同じ厚みの可動部である固有振動周期が
大きくなる故、応答周波数を落さない為には厚みを増加
させる。
第5図の構成にすると、対向部分の変位を小さくするこ
とにより、この部分でのインクの流体抵抗が小さくなり
可動部先端の充分な振幅が容易となる。
〔発明の効果〕
以上述べた様に本発明によれば、インク媒体中に簡単な
構成での共通電極である可動電極部材と対向して配置し
て個別に静電的に制御される固定電極間に静電力を作用
させるのみであるので、製作が容易なこと、半永久的に
して安定なドツト形成が可能なことから高印字品質が得
られて、かつ安価に提供出来る効果は大きい。

Claims (6)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. (1)液状インクが随時供給充填されているプリンタヘ
    ッドに於て、主たる構成要素が所定のピッチでノズルを
    形成しているノズル基材、このノズル基材のノズル部に
    対向して可動部を有して共通電極でもある可動電極部材
    、及びこの可動電極部材に対向して個別に電圧印加と解
    放を制御される個別電極を有する固定電極基材よりなり
    、待機状態では前記可動電極部材の可動部が前記固定電
    極基材に静電吸引されており選択的に開放することによ
    り前記液状インクを前記ノズル基材より噴射せしめて文
    字・図形を形成することを特徴とするプリンタヘッド。
  2. (2)前記可動電極部材の可動部を前記固定電極基材の
    対向している電極部より伸長して先端部の振幅を大なら
    しめたことを特徴とする請求項1記載のプリンタヘッド
  3. (3)前記固定電極基材側の液状インクの留部を充分大
    ならしめたことを特徴とする請求項1または2記載のプ
    リンタヘッド。
  4. (4)前記可動電極部材と固定電極基材の対向電極数を
    2分割してほぼ同一面で所定間隔を有して前記所定ピッ
    チずらした対向関係にしたことを特徴とする請求項1又
    は2又は3記載のプリンタヘッド。
  5. (5)前記可動電極部材の可動部の固有振動周波数を噴
    射最大操返周波数の2倍以上にしたことを特徴とする請
    求項1又は2又は3又は4記載のプリンタヘッド。
  6. (6)請求項1又は2、3、4、5記載に於て、前記可
    動電極部材の可動部の解放順序を順次、又はグループ化
    したタイミングで制御することを特徴とする請求項1又
    は2又は3又は4又は5記載のプリンタヘッド。
