Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sebum secretion promotor, consisting of an extract from propolis and capable of exhibiting mild improving effects on symptoms, such as skin roughening or psoriasis, caused by insufficient secretion of sebum. CONSTITUTION:A sebum secretion promoter obtained by dipping and extracting propolis which is a resinous substance collected from plants by bees and called bee resin in a mixed solution of water with a hydrophilic solvent (e.g. methanol or acetone) or the hydrophilic solvent and distilling the solvent from the resul tant propolis extract solution through distillation, etc., and using the prepared propolis extract as the sebum secretion promoter. The amount thereof in blend ing with other drugs for external use is >=1 wt.% based on the total composition and the extract is preferably blended in an amount within the range of 3-20 wt.% expressed in terms of drying residue.
