Description
この点、上記構成によれば、ケースの端部における先端が三重管構造の部分に位置していることで、導入管からケースに流れ込む排気がケースの端部における先端に当たることを抑制できる。これによって、高温の排気が先端に直接吹き付けられることを抑制でき、先端の温度上昇を抑制できる。すなわち、絶縁層の割れを抑制することができ、絶縁部に電気が流れる経路が形成されることを抑制できる。
上記構成によれば、導入管からケースに流入した排気が上流側に流れの方向を変えても、拡径部に排気が当たりやすくなる。排気が拡径部に当たることで導入管とケースとの間に排気が入り込みにくくなり、絶縁部のうち径方向外側の面まで排気が到達しにくくなる。これによって、絶縁部にPMおよび凝縮水が付着することによる短絡の発生を抑制できる。
上記構成によれば、導入管とケースとの間を排気が通過したとしても、第1接続部の二重管構造の部分に流入した排気は、傾斜部に当たることで再び下流側に流れを変えようとする。このとき、導入管と接続管との間に新たに排気が流入してくると、下流側に流れを変えようとした排気が上流側に押し返される。これによって、第1接続部の二重管構造の部分で排気の渦を発生させることができ、排気が第2接続部におけるケースと接続管との間の部分に流入することを抑制できる。第2接続部におけるケースと接続管との間の部分に排気が到達しにくいことによって、絶縁部のうち径方向外側の面にPMが堆積することを抑制できる。
上記構成によれば、導入管からケースに流入した排気が上流側に流れの方向を変えても、縮径部に排気が当たりやすくなる。排気が縮径部に当たることで導入管とケースとの間を排気が通過しにくくなり、絶縁部のうち径方向外側の面まで排気が到達しにくくなる。これによって、絶縁部にPMおよび凝縮水が付着することによる短絡の発生を抑制できる。
図1は、触媒装置10と、触媒装置10を搭載する車両の内燃機関90と、を示す。内燃機関90の一例は、ガソリンを燃料とするガソリンエンジンである。内燃機関90は、軽油を燃料とするディーゼルエンジンでもよい。内燃機関90は、燃焼室から排出された排気が流れる排気通路91を備えている。図1には、燃焼室から排出された排気が排気通路91を通過して排気口から外部に排出される排気の流れの方向としての排気方向を矢印で表示している。触媒装置10は、排気通路91に配置されている。触媒装置10は、通電によって発熱する発熱体を備える電気加熱式の触媒装置である。
図3を用いて、導入管40からケース20に流入する排気の流れについて説明する。図3には、排気の流れの一例を矢印で表示している。
(1)触媒装置10によれば、触媒上流端31Aに衝突した排気の流れの方向が反転を繰り返さない限りは第2接続部13の二重管構造D2におけるケース20と接続管50との間の部分に排気が到達しない。すなわち、第2接続部13におけるケース20と接続管50との間の部分には、排気が到達しにくい。このため、ケース20と接続管50との間の部分には、PMおよび凝縮水が溜まりにくい。これによって、ケース20の端部22のうち外周面22AにPMが堆積することを抑制できる。
・上記実施形態では、縮径部24を備えるケース20を例示した。ケースは、縮径部を備えているものに限らない。

- 排気を浄化する触媒と、通電によって発熱して前記触媒を加熱する発熱体と、前記触媒および前記発熱体を収容する管であるケースと、前記ケース内に前記発熱体を固定する絶縁体としてのマットと、を有し、排気通路に配置される触媒装置であって、
前記排気通路を排気が流れる方向を排気方向として、前記排気方向の上流側における前記ケースの端部に接続されている管である接続管と、
前記排気方向の上流側における前記接続管の端部に接続されており、前記ケースの径よりも径が小さい管である導入管と、を備え、
前記排気方向の上流側における前記ケースの端部は、前記排気方向の上流側における前記発熱体の端よりも前記排気方向の上流側に突出しており、且つ電気を絶縁する絶縁部であり、
