Claims (7)
- 複数の表示パネルが重ね合わされて配置され、それぞれの前記表示パネルに画像を表示する表示装置であって、
mビットの入力画像データに基づいて、第1画像を表示する、nビット(但し、n<m)駆動の第1表示パネルと、
前記mビットの入力画像データに基づいて、第2画像を表示する、前記nビット駆動の第2表示パネルと、
前記mビットの前記入力画像データの階調を、前記第1表示パネルの第1ガンマ特性に基づいて、前記nビットの階調に変換する第1階調変換部と、前記mビットの前記入力画像データの階調を、前記第2表示パネルの第2ガンマ特性に基づいて、m1ビット(但し、m1≧m)の階調に変換する第2階調変換部と、前記m1ビットの階調に変換された前記入力画像データを前記nビットに変換するとともに階調表現を拡張する拡張処理を実行する拡張処理部と、を含む画像処理部と、
を含み、
前記第1表示パネルは、前記第1階調変換部により階調が変換された前記nビットの前記入力画像データに基づいて、前記第1画像を表示し、
前記第2表示パネルは、前記拡張処理が施された前記nビットの前記入力画像データに基づいて、前記第2画像を表示する、
ことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1階調変換部は、第1ガンマ値を用いて前記mビットの階調を前記nビットの階調に変換し、
前記第2階調変換部は、第2ガンマ値を用いて前記mビットの階調を前記m1ビットの階調に変換し、
前記第1ガンマ値及び前記第2ガンマ値は互いに等しい、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記拡張処理は、面積方向の平均で階調を拡張するディザリング処理である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記拡張処理は、時間軸方向の平均で階調を拡張するフレームレートコントロール処理である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記拡張処理は、平均値フィルタを用いて、輝度が変化する境界を平滑化する平滑化処理である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画像処理部は、さらに、RGB形式の前記入力画像データの形式をHSV形式に変換する第1信号変換部と、前記HSV形式に変換された前記入力画像データの形式を前記RGB形式に変換する第2信号変換部と、を含み、
前記第1階調変換部は、前記第1信号変換部により前記HSV形式に変換された前記mビットの前記入力画像データの階調を、前記第1ガンマ特性に基づいて、前記nビットの階調に変換し、
前記第2信号変換部は、前記第1階調変換部により前記nビットに変換された前記HSV形式の前記入力画像データの形式を、前記RGB形式に変換する、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1ガンマ値及び前記第2ガンマ値は0.5であり、前記第1画像と前記第2画像とを合成した表示画像の合成ガンマ値は2.2である、
ことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
