Description
マイクロ流体送達部材のヒータを停止することであって、ヒータが停止されるとき、ヒータの温度は、液体組成物の引火点の温度を下回ることと、
マイクロ流体送達部材のヒータで電気信号を受容することと、
電気信号に応答してマイクロ流体送達部材のヒータを作動させることであって、ヒータが作動されるとき、ヒータの温度は、液体組成物の沸点の温度を上回ることと、
ヒータが作動されるとき、液体組成物の揮発性成分のうちの少なくとも一部分を蒸発させることであって、それによって、当該用量の液体組成物がマイクロ流体送達部材から送達されることと、を含む。
マイクロ流体送達システム10は、ハウジング12を含み得るが、ハウジング12は、単体から構成されるか、又はハウジングを形成するように組み立てられる複数の表面を有するものである。ハウジング12は、上部表面14と、下部表面16と、上部表面と下部表面との間の本体部分18とを有し得る。ハウジング12の上部表面は、ハウジングに対して外側にある環境をハウジング12の内側部分22と流体連通させる出口20を含んでいる。ハウジング12の内側部分22はホルダー部材24を含み得、ホルダー部材24は、取り外し可能となり得るマイクロ流体カートリッジ26を保持する。以下で説明するように、マイクロ流体送達システム10は、熱エネルギーを用いて流体をマイクロ流体充填カートリッジ26内からハウジング12に対して外側の環境に送達するように構成され得る。
リザーバ
マイクロ流体送達システム10は、流体組成物を収容するためのリザーバ50を含んだマイクロ流体カートリッジ26を含んでいる。いくつかの実施形態では、リザーバ50は、約5〜約50mL、あるいは約10〜約30mL、あるいは約15〜約20mLの流体組成物を収容するように構成される。送達システムは、複数のリザーバを有するように構成されてもよく、各々は、同じ又は異なる組成物を含む。リザーバ50は、交換可能(例えば、リフィルカートリッジ)となるように、別個の構造として形成されてもよい。リザーバは、ガラス及びプラスチックを含んだ流体組成物を収容するのに好適な任意の材料から作製され得る。
図3は、図2Aに示す線3−3に沿った、ホルダー部材24内のマイクロ流体カートリッジ26の横断面図である。リザーバ50内に流体輸送部材80があり、流体輸送部材80は、リザーバ50内の流体52の中の第1の端部82と、流体の上方にある第2の端部84とを有する。流体輸送部材80の第2の端部84は、マイクロ流体送達部材64の下方に設置されている。流体輸送部材80は、リザーバ50からマイクロ流体送達部材64に流体を送達する。流体は、ウィッキング、拡散、吸込み、吸引、減圧、又は他の機構によって移動し得る。いくつかの実施形態では、流体は、当該技術分野で知られている重力供給型システムによってマイクロ流体送達部材に輸送されてもよい。
本発明の送達システム10は、マイクロ流体送達部材64を用いる。本発明のマイクロ流体送達部材64は、インクジェット印刷ヘッドシステムの態様を用いてもよい。
マイクロ流体送達システム10は、最小限の付着と最小限の詰まり(例えば、ウィックの詰まり)で広い住空間において室内に良好に充満させるなど、消費者の利益をもたらすように、流体組成物の強度レベル及び送達割合を(ミリグラム毎時の単位で)正確に設定するために、プログラム可能な電子デバイス回路を有している。動作中、マイクロ流体送達システム10は、微小液滴の噴霧を送達し得るが、ここで、排出される液滴の大多数は、ノズル130から少なくとも約4cm〜約12cm、又は約8cm〜約12cm、上に発射されて、付着を最小限にしながら流体組成物が空間に顕著に送達される。

本発明の別の態様では、送達システムは、室内への充満を補助するために、及び表面を損傷し得る大きな液滴の付着が周囲表面に付かないようにするために、ファンを備えてもよい。ファンは、1〜1000立方センチメートル/分、あるいは10〜100立方センチメートル/分の空気を供給する空気清浄システム用に当該技術分野で使用される、5V 25×25×5mmのDC軸流ファン(EBMPAPST社のSeries 250、Type255N)などの任意の既知のファンであってもよい。
いくつかの実施形態では、送達システムは、空気中の光、騒音、動き、及び/又は臭気レベルなどの環境的刺激に応答する市販のセンサを含み得る。例えば、送達システムは、光を検知したときに電源が入り、及び/又は光を検知しないときに電源が切れるようにプログラムされ得る。別の例では、送達システムは、センサがセンサの近くに移動する人を感知したときに電源を入れることができる。センサはまた、空気中の臭気レベルを監視するために使用され得る。臭気センサを使用して、必要なときに、送達システムの電源を入れる、熱若しくはファンの速度を増加させる、及び/又は送達システムからの流体組成物の送達を増大させることができる。
本発明の別の態様では、カートリッジは、最適な動作条件をデバイスに送信するためにメモリを有する。本発明者らは、動作最適条件は場合によっては液体に依存すると予想している。
マイクロ流体送達システム内で十分に動作するように、流体組成物の多くの特性が考慮される。いくつかの要素には、マイクロ流体送達部材から排出するのに最適である粘度で流体を配合すること、マイクロ流体送達部材を詰まらせる遊離固形分の量を限定して、又はそのような遊離固形分を伴わずに流体を配合すること、乾燥せずかつマイクロ流体送達を詰まらせないように十分に安定となるように流体を配合することなどが含まれる。マイクロ流体送達システムにおいて満足に動作することは、しかしながら、50重量%超の香料混合物を有する流体組成物がマイクロ流体送達部材から適切に霧化するために、また空気を清浄化する又は悪臭を低減する組成物として効果的に送達されるために必要な要件の一部に対処するにすぎない。

Claims (16)
- ある用量の揮発性成分を含む液体組成物を、空気中へ前記液体組成物を揮発させる再充填限定モードで、マイクロ流体送達補充容器から送達する方法であって、前記液体組成物は、引火点の温度及び沸点の温度を有し、前記マイクロ流体送達補充容器は、前記液体組成物を格納するリザーバと、前記リザーバと流体連通するヒータを備えるマイクロ流体送達部材とを備え、前記方法は、
送達しない場合、前記マイクロ流体送達部材の前記ヒータを停止することであって、その結果、前記ヒータの温度は、前記液体組成物の前記引火点の温度を下回ることと、
送達する場合、前記マイクロ流体送達部材の前記ヒータで電気信号を受容することと、
前記電気信号が4000ヘルツ以上の周波数で供給されるとき、前記電気信号に応答して前記マイクロ流体送達部材の前記ヒータを作動させることと、
前記ヒータの温度が前記液体組成物の前記沸点の温度を上回るとき、前記液体組成物の前記揮発性成分のうちの少なくとも一部分を蒸発させることであって、それによって、前記用量の前記液体組成物が前記マイクロ流体送達部材から送達されることと、を含む、方法。 - 前記液体組成物は揮発性香料材料を含み、前記液体組成物の平均沸点は250℃未満である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記マイクロ流体送達部材の前記ヒータが前記電気信号に応じて作動される前に、前記液体組成物を予熱することであって、前記液体組成物は前記ヒータによって2マイクロ秒未満にわたって予熱されることを更に含む、請求項1または請求項2に記載の方法。
- 前記電気信号は、点火期間(tON)と非点火期間(tOFF)とを備え、
前記点火期間(tON)は、挿入遅延時間(tDELAY)を伴う点火パルスのバーストを含み、
前記電気信号は、前記非点火期間(tOFF)及び前記挿入遅延時間(tDELAY)の間、相対的に低い振幅に維持され、
前記点火パルスの各々は、相対的に高い振幅を有する、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の方法。 - 前記相対的に高い振幅は4ボルト〜16ボルトである、請求項4に記載の方法。
- 前記点火期間(tON)は前記非点火期間(tOFF)よりも短い、請求項4に記載の方法。
- 前記点火期間(tON)は0.25秒〜1秒である、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記非点火期間(tOFF)は9秒〜200秒である、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記液体組成物は、前記非点火期間(tOFF)が増加されるときには減少され、前記非点火期間(tOFF)が減少されるときには増加される、1時間当たりの割合で送達される、請求項6に記載の方法。
- ブーストモードの間、前記点火期間(tON)の長さは前記非点火期間(tOFF)の長さに等しい、請求項4に記載の方法。
