[0061] 本明細書では、発光ナノクリスタルを含むナノクリスタルを含む様々な構成物について説明する。それぞれの吸収特性、放出特性、及び屈折率特性を含む、発光ナノクリスタルの様々な特性は、様々な適用例のために適合させ調整することができる。本明細書で使用する「ナノクリスタル」という用語は、実質的に単結晶であるナノ構造体を指す。ナノクリスタルは、約500nm未満から約1nm未満までの寸法を備えた少なくとも1つの領域又は特徴的な寸法を有することができる。「ナノクリスタル」、「ナノドット」、「ドット」、及び「QD」という用語は、同様の構造を表すものと当業者によって容易に理解され、本明細書では交換可能に使用される。また、本発明は、多結晶又は非晶質のナノクリスタルの使用も包含する。また、本明細書で使用する「ナノクリスタル」という用語は「発光ナノクリスタル」も包含する。本明細書で使用する「発光ナノクリスタル」という用語は、外部エネルギー源によって励起された時に光を放出するナノクリスタルを意味することができる。
[0082] 本明細書で使用する「蛍光体」という用語は合成蛍光又は燐光物質を指す。蛍光体の例としては、セリウム(II)ドープYAG蛍光体(YAG:Ce3+又はY3Al5O12:Ce3+)並びに本明細書に記載されている発光ナノクリスタルなどの伝統的な材料を含む。本明細書に記載されている表示装置100などの表示装置で使用可能な追加の蛍光体としては、珪酸塩蛍光体、ガーネット蛍光体、アルミン酸塩蛍光体、窒化物蛍光体、NYAG蛍光体、SiAlON蛍光体、及びCaAlSiN3ベースの(CASN)蛍光体、並びに当技術分野で知られているその他の蛍光体を含むが、これらに限定されない。
本明細書に記載されている発光ナノクリスタルを含む構成物(例えば、蛍光体フィルム114)の厚さは、スピンコーティング及びスクリーン印刷などの当技術分野で知られている任意の方法で制御することができる。本明細書に記載されている発光ナノクリスタル構成物(例えば、蛍光体フィルム114)は、任意の望ましいサイズ、形状、構成、及び厚さにすることができる。例えば、この構成物(例えば、蛍光体フィルム114)は、層の形、並びに例えば円板、球体、立方体又はブロック、管状構成などのその他の形状にすることができる。この構成物(例えば、蛍光体フィルム114)は、厚さ(即ち、1つの寸法)が約100mm程度から約1mm未満程度の厚さまでである。その他の諸実施形態では、ポリマーフィルムは数十〜数百ミクロン程度の厚さにすることができる。発光ナノクリスタルは、所望の機能に適した任意の添加率で様々な構成物に埋め込むことができる。例えば、発光ナノクリスタルは、適用例、ポリマー、及び使用するナノクリスタルのタイプ次第で、約0.001%〜約75%の体積比で添加することができる。適切な添加率は、当業者によって容易に決定することができ、更に特定の適用例に関して本明細書に記載されている。一実施形態では、発光ナノクリスタル構成物(例えば、蛍光体フィルム114)において添加されるナノクリスタルの量は、百万分率(ppm)レベルまでの約10%の体積比程度である。
Claims (22)
- バックライトユニットであって、
光源ユニットと、
前記光源ユニットに結合された量子ドットフィルムを含む光学処理ユニットと、
を含むバックライトユニットと、
前記バックライトユニットに結合された表示画面を含む画像生成ユニットと、
前記バックライトユニットが前記表示画面の全域に前記量子ドットフィルムより放出された光を分散するように構成されることと、
前記表示画面の全域で実質的により均一な白色点値を達成するために前記表示画面上の異なる位置における分散光の白色点値を調整するように構成されたパターン層と、
を含み、
前記パターン層は、
前記量子ドットフィルムによって放出される前記光の1つまたは複数の色とは異なる第1の色を有する透明なポリマー材料の第1のパターン、及び
前記第1の色および前記量子ドットフィルムによって放出される前記光の1つまたは複数の色とは異なる第2の色を有する別の透明なポリマー材料の第2のパターン
を備える、装置。 - 前記パターン層が前記量子ドットフィルム上に配置される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記パターン層が前記量子ドットフィルム上に配置された基板上に配置される、請求項1に記載の装置。

表示画面の全域で実質的により均一な白色点値を達成するために分散光の白色点値を調整するためのパターン付き材料の層を設けることと、

前記パターン付き材料の層を設けることが、
前記表示画面上の異なる位置における前記分散光の前記白色点値を決定することと、
前記決定された白色点値のそれぞれを前記所望の白色点値と比較することと、
前記決定された白色点値のうちの1つ以上の白色点値が所定の値だけ前記所望の白色点値より大きいか又は小さいことに応答して、前記1つ以上の白色点値を補正するためのパターンを決定することと、
