前記伸長管状部材の第1の端部から、回転磁場を発生させるように構成される、電磁石と、

前記電磁石は、3つの磁気コアを備える、項目1に記載の装置。
(項目3)
複数の磁気コアは、閉鎖輪郭を実質的に画定するように構成される、項目2に記載の装置。
(項目4)
前記電磁石は、5つの磁気コアを備える、項目2に記載の装置。
(項目5)
前記磁気コアのそれぞれの周囲に配置されるコイルをさらに備える、項目2に記載の装置。
(項目6)
各コイルは、時変電気信号を受信する、項目5に記載の装置。
(項目7)
前記回転磁場は、異なる相シフトを有する電気信号の組み合わせを使用して発生される、項目6に記載の装置。
(項目8)
前記伸長管状部材は、約3cm未満の直径を有する、項目1に記載の装置。
(項目9)
前記伸長管状部材の第1の端部に近接して位置付けられる遮蔽材料をさらに備える、項目1に記載の装置。

前記遮蔽材料は、高透磁率金属または銅である、項目9に記載の装置。

前記電気光学ディスプレイは、電気泳動粒子を含有する電気泳動ディスプレイである、項目11に記載のシステム。
(項目13)
前記電気光学ディスプレイは、第1の透明電極を備える、項目12に記載のシステム。
(項目14)
前記電気光学ディスプレイはさらに、第2の透明電極、第1の不透明電極、またはトランジスタのアクティブマトリクスを備える、項目13に記載のシステム。
(項目15)
システムであって、
項目7に記載の装置と、
回転磁場の印加に応答して状態を変化させるように構成される電気泳動粒子を含有する、電気泳動ディスプレイと、
を備える、システム。
(項目16)
電気光学媒体をアドレス指定する方法であって、
前記電気光学媒体に、前記電気光学媒体を第1の光学状態と第2の光学状態との間で切り替えさせるために不十分な電圧を印加するステップと、
前記電気光学媒体に、前記電圧に加え、組み合わせられた電気および磁場が前記電気光学媒体を第1の光学状態と第2の光学状態との間で切り替えさせるために十分であるように磁場を印加するステップと、
を含む、方法。

前記磁場は、回転磁場である、項目16に記載の方法。

Claims (13)
- システムであって、
前記システムは、
回転磁場の印加に応答して、可視状態を変化させるように構成される電気光学粒子を含有する、電気光学ディスプレイと、
前記電気光学ディスプレイをアドレス指定するための装置と、
を備え、
前記装置は、
第1の端部および第2の端部を有し、携帯式であるように定寸され、ユーザが、前記電気光学ディスプレイをアドレス指定することを可能にするように構成される、伸長管状部材と、
前記伸長管状部材の第1の端部から、前記回転磁場を発生させるように構成される、電磁石と、
を備える、システム。 - 前記電磁石は、3つの磁気コアを備える、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 複数の磁気コアは、閉鎖輪郭を実質的に画定するように構成される、請求項2に記載のシステム。
- 前記電磁石は、5つの磁気コアを備える、請求項2に記載のシステム。
- 前記磁気コアのそれぞれの周囲に配置されるコイルをさらに備える、請求項2に記載のシステム。
- 各コイルは、時変電気信号を受信する、請求項5に記載のシステム。
- 前記回転磁場は、異なる相シフトを有する電気信号の組み合わせを使用して発生させられる、請求項6に記載のシステム。
- 前記伸長管状部材は、3cm未満の直径を有する、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記伸長管状部材の第1の端部に近接して位置付けられる遮蔽材料をさらに備える、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記遮蔽材料は、鋼鉄または銅である、請求項9に記載のシステム。
- 前記電気光学ディスプレイは、電気泳動粒子を含有する電気泳動ディスプレイである、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記電気光学ディスプレイは、第1の透明電極を備える、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記電気光学ディスプレイはさらに、第2の透明電極、第1の不透明電極、またはトランジスタのアクティブマトリクスを備える、請求項12に記載のシステム。
