Description
以下の実施例及び比較例で使用される難燃剤は、ヘキサブロモシクロドデカン(HBCD)及び臭素化スチレン/ブタジエン(S/B)コポリマーである。臭素化S/Bコポリマーは、64重量%の臭素を含有し、約80%の1,2ブタジエン含有量及び1モル当たり約140,000グラムの分子量を有する(例えば、Emerald Innovation(商標)3000、Emerald Innovationは、Chemtura Corporationの商標である)。
以下の実施例及び比較例の場合、以下の押出発泡体プロセスに従う。
臭素化難燃剤のみを用いて、金属酸化物粒子を用いずにポリマー発泡体を調製する。製剤の詳細(100重量部ポリスチレン樹脂に対する重量部)、発泡プロセス、及び得られる発泡体の特徴を表2に示す。
上に記載されるポリマー発泡体を追加の配合物を用いて調製し、プロセス特徴は、表3及び4に記載される。表は、得られる発泡体の特徴も説明する。比較例C〜E及び実施例1〜3は、アルミナベーマイトを含み、ポリスチレン中25重量%のアルミナベーマイトを含有する濃縮物としてドライブレンド工程中に発泡性配合物に導入される。アルミナベーマイトは、Sasol GmbHから購入される、15〜45ミクロンの凝集体粒子サイズを有する凝集形態の20〜200nmの結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶無機材料である。
追加の配合物及び表5及び6に記載されるプロセス特徴を用いて、上記のようにポリマー発泡体を調製する。表は、得られる発泡体の特徴も説明する。比較例F〜H及び実施例4〜6は、酸化マグネシウムを含み、ポリスチレン中に15重量%の酸化マグネシウムを含有する濃縮物としてドライブレンド工程中に発泡性配合物に導入される。酸化マグネシウムは、KonoshimaまたはMartin Marietta Magnesia Specialitiesによって供給される、0.5〜20マイクロメートルの平均粒径を有する。同様の結果は、50〜300nmの平均粒径を有する酸化マグネシウムに対して予想される。
カーボンブラックを含む以下の試料の場合、ドライ混合ブレンドに、総濃縮物重量に対する重量%で、ポリスチレン中に60重量%のカーボンブラック(Thermax N990、Cancarbによって供給される、300ナノメートルの平均粒径を有するサーマルブラック)を含む。
(態様1)
臭素化スチレン/ブタジエンコポリマーを有するスチレンポリマーの連続マトリックスと、前記スチレンポリマーの連続マトリックス内に分散されたアルミナベーマイト及び酸化マグネシウムからなる群から選択される金属酸化物粒子と、を含む、ポリマー発泡体。
(態様2)
アルミナベーマイト及び酸化マグネシウムからなる群から選択される金属酸化物粒子を含まない同様の発泡体よりも低い遊離臭化物濃度を有することをさらに特徴とする、態様1に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様3)
前記ポリマー発泡体が、アルミナベーマイト及び酸化マグネシウムからなる群から選択される金属酸化物粒子以外の、臭素化難燃剤のための安定剤を含まないことをさらに特徴とする、態様1または2に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様4)
前記スチレンポリマーが、スチレンホモポリマー、ならびにスチレン及びアクリロニトリルのコポリマーから選択されることをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様5)
前記ポリマー発泡体が、総ポリマー発泡体重量に基づいて50重量パーセント超のスチレンポリマーであることをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様6)
アルミナベーマイト及び酸化マグネシウムからなる群から選択される金属酸化物粒子の濃度が、総ポリマー発泡体重量に基づいて0.3重量パーセント以上かつ同時に20重量パーセント以下であることをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様7)
臭素化スチレン/ブタジエンコポリマーの濃度が、総ポリマー発泡体重量に基づいて0.5重量%以上かつ同時に20重量%以下であることをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様8)
前記スチレンポリマーの連続マトリックス内に分散されたカーボンブラック及びグラファイトからなる群から選択される赤外線減衰剤を有することをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様9)
ポリマー発泡体1キログラム当たり30ミリグラム未満の遊離臭化物含有量を有することをさらに特徴とする、態様1〜8のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
(態様10)
(a)スチレンポリマー、アルミナベーマイト及び酸化マグネシウムからなる群から選択される金属酸化物粒子、臭素化スチレン/ブタジエンコポリマー、ならびに発泡剤を含む発泡性ポリマー組成物を提供することと、(b)前記発泡性ポリマー組成物を態様1〜9のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体に膨張させることと、を含む、調製するためのプロセス。
(態様11)
前記プロセスが、押出発泡プロセスであることをさらに特徴とし、前記発泡性ポリマー組成物が、発泡ダイを通して押出温度及び圧力で押し出され、前記押出圧力よりも低い圧力及び前記押出温度よりも低い温度の領域内で前記ポリマー発泡体に膨張させられる、態様10に記載の前記プロセス。
Claims (11)
- 臭素化スチレン/ブタジエンコポリマーを有するスチレンポリマーの連続マトリックスと、前記スチレンポリマーの連続マトリックス内に分散された金属酸化物粒子と、を含み、前記金属酸化物粒子が、アルミナベーマイトのみである、ポリマー発泡体。
- アルミナベーマイトである金属酸化物粒子を含まない同様の発泡体よりも低い遊離臭化物濃度を有することをさらに特徴とする、請求項1に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
- 前記ポリマー発泡体が、アルミナベーマイトである金属酸化物粒子以外の、臭素化難燃剤のための安定剤を含まないことをさらに特徴とする、請求項1または2に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
- 前記スチレンポリマーが、スチレンホモポリマー、ならびにスチレン及びアクリロニトリルのコポリマーから選択されることをさらに特徴とする、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
- 前記ポリマー発泡体が、総ポリマー発泡体重量に基づいて50重量パーセント超のスチレンポリマーであることをさらに特徴とする、請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
- アルミナベーマイトである金属酸化物粒子の濃度が、総ポリマー発泡体重量に基づいて0.3重量パーセント以上かつ同時に20重量パーセント以下であることをさらに特徴とする、請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。

- ポリマー発泡体1キログラム当たり30ミリグラム未満の遊離臭化物含有量を有することをさらに特徴とする、請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体。
- (a)スチレンポリマー、アルミナベーマイトである金属酸化物粒子、臭素化スチレン/ブタジエンコポリマー、ならびに発泡剤を含む発泡性ポリマー組成物を提供することと、(b)前記発泡性ポリマー組成物を請求項1〜9のいずれか一項に記載の前記ポリマー発泡体に膨張させることと、を含む、調製するためのプロセス。
- 前記プロセスが、押出発泡プロセスであることをさらに特徴とし、前記発泡性ポリマー組成物が、発泡ダイを通して押出温度及び圧力で押し出され、前記押出圧力よりも低い圧力及び前記押出温度よりも低い温度の領域内で前記ポリマー発泡体に膨張させられる、請求項10に記載の前記プロセス。
