そして、これらの鉄イオン(Fe2+)と水酸基イオン(OH−)とは、Fe(OH)2を形成すると考えられ、形成されたFe(OH)2はさらに雰囲気からの酸素ガスと反応して、FeOOHなどの腐食生成物を形成し、これにより、水素ガスが発生することになるとしている。
また、特許文献3には、水及び保水剤を含み酸素との接触で発熱する発熱性組成物とアルミニウム粒子とを酸素存在下で混合状態として水素を発生させる水素発生方法が記載されている。特許文献3に記載された技術によれば、自己発熱により水素ガスを急速かつ安定的に発生させることができ、温度制御が不要で、燃料電池に水素を供給する装置に有用であるとしている。
また、特許文献2に記載された技術によれば、比較的低温での操業で水素ガスの製造が可能であるが、特許文献2に記載された技術では水素発生源はあくまでFeであり、腐食反応に基づいて水素ガスを発生させるとしている。このような現象は、すでに自然界で例えば海水中に沈んだ鉄などで水素ガスの発生が認められて然るべきであるが、そのような報告もなく、工業的規模での操業を実施するまでには、更なる検討を必要とするという問題がある。
本発明は、かかる従来技術の問題を解決し、高価な素材を用いることなく、しかも簡便に、水素ガスを発生できる、水素ガス発生方法を提供することを目的とする。
まず、本発明者らが行った実験結果について説明する。
表1に示す組成の鋼材(鋼No.A)から試験材を採取した。使用した鋼材は、引張強さ280MPa級(30kgf/mm2)の汎用軟鋼板(冷延焼鈍板)である。
試験方法はつぎのとおりとした。
なお、使用した塩水は、(0.5%NaCl+0.1%CaCl2+0.075%NaHCO3)水溶液とした。
上記した加速腐食試験を行った後に、試験装置から試験片を取り出し、流水で表面に付着した錆を洗い流し、液体窒素中に保持した。その後、ガスクロ測定直前に、さらにサンドペーパを用いて、試験片表面を研磨し極力錆だけを取り除いた。なお、ペーパ研磨時に試験片の温度が上昇しないように配慮した。
このようなことから、加速腐食試験後の試験片について観察された300℃付近および400℃付近の水素の放出ピークは、試験片表面に残存していた鉄錆が、ガスクロ装置内でアルゴンガス流中で加熱時に反応して水素を発生していると考えるべきであるという結論を得た。
使用した試薬は、いずれも90〜99%以上の純度を有する、Fe2O3(酸化鉄(III)、和光純薬工業製)、Fe3O4(四三酸化鉄、和光純薬工業製)、Fe2O3・H2O(=FeOOH)(酸化鉄(III)水和物、和光純薬工業製)とした。なお、これらの試薬は半円柱状でボート状の容器(石英ガラス製)に、1回、0.2〜0.7g入れて、ガスクロマトグラフィーの石英管内にセットした。
図4から、FeOOH(ゲーサイト)の場合にとくに、100〜400℃の範囲で、水素が多く放出されることが認められた。なお、Fe3O4(マグネタイト)の場合にも、若干の水素放出が認められたが、その理由は明確でない。Fe3O4試薬は、純度95%であったので、別種の鉄錆(若干のFeOOH等)が混入したものと推定している。一方、Fe2O3(ヘマタイト)の場合には、水素の放出は全く認められなかった。
このようなことから、乾湿繰り返し加速腐食試験を実施した試験材が、加熱過程における300〜400℃近傍で水素を放出する機構は、加速腐食試験中に生成された鉄錆、とくにFeOOHの加熱による変化によるものであるという結論に到達した。
本発明は、かかる知見に基づき、さらに検討を加えて完成されたものである。すなわち、本発明の要旨は次のとおりである。
(1)FeOOHを含む素材に、アルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して前記FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させることを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
(2)FeOOHを含む素材に、アルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して前記FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させたのちに、前記Fe2O3 (ヘマタイト)をFeOOHに変化させる錆処理を施し、ついでアルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して該錆処理を施されて生成した該FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させる工程を、複数回繰返すことを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
(3)(1)または(2)において、前記素材が、FeOOHを含む鉄系材料であることを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
(4)(1)ないし(3)のいずれかにおいて、前記処理が、Fe2O3 (ヘマタイト)の生成量をモニターしながら行う処理であることを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
(5)(1)ないし(4)のいずれかにおいて、前記素材が、粉末であることを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
なお、本発明で対象とする水素ガスの発生は、100〜400℃温度域で生じるため、定温加熱でも、例えば加熱温度が400℃超と高い温度に設定すれば、例えば13.3℃/min程度の通常の加熱速度でも、昇温中にほとんどの水素ガスが発生することになる。なお、加熱速度が著しく速い場合には、保持温度に到達したのちに水素ガスが発生する場合がある。
なお、素材の加熱は、好ましくは非酸化性雰囲気中で、さらに好ましくは非酸化性雰囲気の容器内で行う。非酸化性雰囲気としては、純アルゴン等の不活性雰囲気とすることが好ましいが、それに限定されないことは言うまでもない。なお、加熱のための熱源は、とくに限定する必要はなく、ヒーター、バーナー等の常用の加熱手段がいずれも適用できる。
また、本発明では、上記したように、FeOOHを含む素材に、前記FeOOHがFe2O3に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させたのちに、前記Fe2O3をFeOOHに変化させる錆処理を施すことが好ましい。ここでいう「錆処理」とは、Fe2O3をFeOOHに変化させる処理を意味し、水素ガスを発生させた残渣であるFe2O3を、再度錆びさせFeOOHに変化させる処理をいう。錆処理の条件は、Fe2O3をFeOOHに変化させることができる処理であればよく、とくに限定されないが、手軽な方法として例えばまず、室温大気雰囲気中で、空気に触れさせながら水をかける方法、あるいは水噴霧する方法が挙げられる。また、湿度:50%以上の湿潤雰囲気、好ましくは250℃以下の温度域で、素材の重量、体積、表面積により適正範囲が異なるが、30分以上保持する処理とすることが好ましい。なお、処理温度域を250℃以下としたのは、図4から明らかなように、250℃を超える温度域では、水素の発生が顕著になり、FeOOHがFe2O3へ変化して水素発生源となるFeOOHの形成ができなくなるためである。
表1に示す組成の鋼材Bから、試験材(0.85mm厚×12mm幅×55mm長さ)を8枚採取し、図2に示すSEA−J2334に準拠した腐食サイクル(1日)を20サイクル(20日間)負荷し、全面に鉄錆が覆った試験材(素材)とした。試験材に形成された鉄錆は、ほとんどが赤錆でありFeOOHを主とするものであった。
素材からは、加熱処理中の200〜400℃で非拡散性水素の放出が認められ、放出量の合計は、7.47ppmであった。なお、100℃近傍の拡散性水素の放出はなく、放出された水素ガスは、鉄錆(主としてFeOOHを含む)を含む素材に加熱処理を施した際に、鉄錆が反応して水素ガスを発生させたものである。
(実施例2)
鉄錆FeOOHの試薬(粉末)を、半円柱状でボード状の容器(石英ガラス製)に0.2〜0.3g入れて、ガスクロマトグラフィー内で、図8に示す熱処理(定温加熱保持)を施し、放出水素量を測定した。なお、室温から各定温保持温度までを30minで昇温した。
図8から、加熱温度:400℃では、水素は昇温時(30minまでに)に全発生水素量の70〜80%が発生している。また、加熱温度:300℃では、昇温を含む保持時間:90minまでにほとんどの水素が発生している。また、加熱温度:200℃では、昇温を含む保持時間ととも少量ずつ発生するが、水素量は少ない。
図9から、加熱温度、保持時間の関係で、A(400℃、25min)、B(300℃、35min)、C(200℃、600min)の各点を結ぶ線より右側の領域に、位置する加熱温度、保持時間で熱処理すれば、全水素発生量の50%以上の水素を発生させることができる。
(実施例3)
鉄錆FeOOHの試薬(粉末)を、半円柱状でボード状の容器(石英ガラス製)に10g入れて、ガスクロマトグラフィー内で、加熱温度:300℃で、120min間保持する処理を施して、水素を放出させた。この処理による放出水素量は合計で7.2質量ppmであった。なお、室温から加熱温度までを30minで昇温した。ついで、水素を放出させた残渣(Fe2O3)を、80℃で湿度:100%に保持した雰囲気中に5h保持して、錆を発生させる錆処理を施し、FeOOHを生成させた。得られたFeOOHに、さらに加熱温度:300℃で、120min間保持する処理を施して、水素を放出させた。この処理による放出水素量は合計で1.5質量ppmであった。
なお、繰返し2回の工程後に放出される水素量が第1回目の放出水素量より減少した理由はつぎのように考えている。
Claims (5)
- FeOOHを含む素材に、アルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して前記FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させることを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
- FeOOHを含む素材に、アルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して前記FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させたのちに、前記Fe2O3 (ヘマタイト)をFeOOHに変化させる錆処理を施し、ついでアルゴンガス流中で100〜400℃の範囲の温度に加熱して該錆処理を施されて生成した該FeOOHがFe2O3 (ヘマタイト)に変化する処理を施し、水素ガスを発生させる工程を、複数回繰返すことを特徴とする水素ガス発生方法。
- 前記素材が、FeOOHを含む鉄系材料であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の水素ガス発生方法。
- 前記処理が、Fe2O3 (ヘマタイト)の生成量をモニターしながら行う処理であることを特徴とする請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載の水素ガス発生方法。
- 前記素材が、粉末であることを特徴とする請求項1ないし4のいずれかに記載の水素ガス発生方法。
