ここで、P(V)は、各電極と共通電極との間に印加される電圧差Vによる当該電極の上部液晶方向子の再配列が発生する時、液晶層に垂直に入射した特定の単一波長光が経るようになる位相遅延を意味する。

Claims (19)
- 映像を表示する表示パネルと、
前記表示パネルの映像を2次元映像または3次元映像と認識されるように、2次元モードまたは3次元モードで動作するように形成される回折素子と、を含み、
前記回折素子は、
互いに対向する第1基板及び第2基板、
前記第1基板上に形成される第1電極層、
前記第2基板上に形成される第2電極層、及び
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に配置される液晶層を含み、
前記回折素子が3次元モードで動作する場合、
前記回折素子は、複数の単位レンズを含み、
前記複数の単位レンズにおける各々の単位レンズは、前記液晶層を通過する光の位相遅延が各区間にわたって段階的に増加する又は減少する複数の区間を含み、
前記第2電極層には共通電圧が印加され、
前記複数に区間における第1区間において、前記共通電圧に対して前記第1電極層に印加される電圧の極性は、前記第1区間に隣接する第2区間において前記共通電圧に対して前記第1電極層に印加される電圧の極性と異なることを特徴とする映像表示装置。 - 前記複数の単位レンズはそれぞれフレネルゾーンプレートとして動作することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間は、前記単位レンズの中心を基準として外側に順に位置することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1電極層は、
複数の第1電極を含む第1電極アレイ、
複数の第2電極を含む第2電極アレイ、及び、
前記第1電極アレイと前記第2電極アレイとの間を絶縁する絶縁層を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の映像表示装置。 - 前記複数の区間は、それぞれ少なくとも1つの前記第1電極と、少なくとも1つの前記第2電極とを含むことを特徴とする請求項4に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間それぞれにおける位相遅延が外側から中心側に段階的に変化するように前記第1電極層に電圧が印加されることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間の各々は、前記第1電極と前記第2電極とによって定義される複数のサブ区間を含み、
前記複数の区間において、対応するサブ区間に該当する前記第1電極または前記第2電極の電圧は、同一の位相遅延を起こすように印加されることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の映像表示装置。 - 前記複数の区間それぞれで少なくとも1つの前記第1電極及び少なくとも1つの前記第2電極に印加される電圧は、外側から中心側に段階的に変化することを特徴とする請求項5に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間それぞれで少なくとも1つの前記第1電極及び少なくとも1つの前記第2電極の幅は、外側から中心側に向かうほど広くなることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間それぞれにおいて、少なくとも1つの前記第1電極及び少なくとも1つの前記第2電極に印加される電圧と前記共通電圧との差は、外側から中心側に順に減少することを特徴とする請求項8に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1電極層において、前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界に隣接した2つの電極に印加される電圧の電圧差dVは、
前記複数の区間の各区間で、最も外側に位置する電極に印加される第1電圧と、最も中心側に位置する電極に印加される第2電圧との差dVmax、及び前記第2電圧と前記共通電圧との差であるオフセット電圧Voffsetによって設定されることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の映像表示装置。 - 前記第1電極層において、前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界に隣接した2つの電極に印加される電圧の電圧差dVは、dV=dVmax+2Voffsetであることを特徴とする請求項11に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1電極層において、前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界に隣接した2つの電極に印加される電圧の電圧差dVは、前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界部の透過率が所定値以下となるように設定されることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界に隣接した2つの電極の間の間隔及びセルギャップは、前記第1区間と前記第2区間の境界部の透過率が所定値以下となるように設定されることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間は、それぞれ2つの前記第1電極と、2つの前記第2電極とを含むことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間は、それぞれ2つの前記第1電極と、1つの前記第2電極とを含むか、または1つの前記第1電極と2つの前記第2電極とを含むことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記複数の区間の各区間において、互いに隣接する前記第1電極及び前記第2電極の端部は互いにオーバーラップしないことを特徴とする請求項16に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記回折素子が2次元モードで動作する場合、
前記回折素子は前記表示パネルで表示された映像をそのまま透過させることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の映像表示装置。 - 前記液晶層の液晶分子を配向するための配向膜をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項18に記載の映像表示装置。
