は、Bが化学式1のベンゼンに直接連結されていることを意味することができる。
で表示される。すなわち、上記oは、光の偏光方向が地面から出るか、入る方向である場合を表現したものであり、上記
は、光の偏光方向が地面と平行な場合を表現したものである。
(1)液晶レンズ及び光学フィルタの製造
コレステリック配向液晶組成物としては、異常屈折率neと正常屈折率noの差ne−noが約0.4である液晶分子を含む組成物を使用した。液晶フィルムの製造に一般的に使用される垂直配向膜が形成されている基材層を使用して液晶レンズを製造した。具体的には、上記垂直配向膜上に、厚さが約4.78μm程度の層が形成されるように塗布し、コレステリック配向させた状態で重合し、液晶レンズを形成した。上記液晶レンズのコレステリック配向領域のピッチPは、約300μmであった。
上記で製造された光学フィルタをレンチキュラレンズタイプの通常的な3D装置にレンチキュラレンズとして適用し、ディスプレイ装置を製造した。具体的に、図7のように、表示素子40の光が出射される面に光学フィルタ30の偏光調節素子20が接するように配置し、装置を製造した。
上記ディスプレイ装置において偏光調節素子が液晶レンズの螺旋軸に垂直するように線偏光された光を液晶レンズに入射するように制御した場合、特殊メガネなしに3次元立体映像を鑑賞することができるか否かを下記のような方式で評価した。
Claims (14)
- コレステリック配向された液晶分子を含むコレステリック配向領域を含むレンズ層を含み、上記コレステリック配向領域の螺旋軸は、前記レンズ層の面と平行であり、上記レンズ層は、下記数式2による焦点距離(F)が0.1mm〜10cmである液晶レンズ:

上記数式2で、Pは、上記コレステリック配向領域のピッチであり、dは、上記レンズ層の厚さであり、△nは、上記コレステリック配向領域の液晶分子の異常屈折率neと正常屈折率noの差ne−noである。 - 上記コレステリック配向領域は、上記コレステリック配向領域の螺旋軸と垂直であるように線偏光された光に対して下記数式1による屈折率分布を示す、請求項1に記載の液晶レンズ:

上記数式1で、xは、上記コレステリック配向領域の座標であって、0〜P/2の間の任意の数であり、上記で、Pは、上記コレステリック配向領域のピッチであり、neff(x)は、x地点での上記線偏光された光に対する上記コレステリック配向領域の屈折率であり、neは、液晶分子の異常屈折率であり、noは、液晶分子の正常屈折率であり、θ(x)は、xが0である地点での液晶分子の光軸に対する当該座標での液晶分子の光軸の角度である。 - 上記コレステリック配向領域のピッチが0.1μm〜10cmである、請求項1または2に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 上記コレステリック配向領域の液晶分子の異常屈折率neと正常屈折率noの差ne−noが0.01〜0.6である、請求項1から3の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 上記レンズ層の厚さが0.1μm〜100μmである、請求項1から4の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 上記レンズ層において液晶分子は、架橋または重合された状態で存在する、請求項1から5の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 基材層をさらに含み、上記レンズ層が上記基材層の一面に形成されている、請求項1から6の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 上記基材層と上記レンズ層との間に垂直配向膜をさらに含む、請求項7に記載の液晶レンズ。
- 入射光の偏光方向を調節することができるように構成された偏光調節素子と、上記偏光調節素子で出射される光が入射することができるように配置された請求項1から8の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズと、を含む光学フィルタ。
- 上記偏光調節素子は、入射光の状態を液晶レンズのコレステリック配向領域の螺旋軸に垂直であるように偏光された線偏光または上記螺旋軸に平行に偏光された線偏光で調節して出射することができるように構成されている、請求項9に記載の光学フィルタ。
- 右眼用及び左眼用映像信号を含む映像信号を出射することができるように構成された表示素子と、上記表示素子で出射された映像信号が入射することができるように配置された請求項1から8の何れか1項に記載の液晶レンズと、を含むディスプレイ装置。
- 上記液晶レンズは、上記表示素子で出射された一対の右眼用及び左眼用映像信号がコレステリック配向領域の半ピッチに対応する領域に入射することができるように配置されている、請求項11に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 上記表示素子と上記液晶レンズとの間に配置されていて、上記表示素子で出射された映像信号の偏光方向を調節し、上記液晶レンズ方向に出射させることができるように構成された偏光調節素子をさらに含む、請求項11または12に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 上記偏光調節素子は、映像信号の状態を上記液晶レンズのコレステリック配向領域の螺旋軸に垂直であるように偏光された線偏光または上記螺旋軸に平行に偏光された線偏光で調節して出射することができるように構成されている、請求項13に記載のディスプレイ装置。
