Claims (8)
- 垂直磁気記録ディスクを製造する方法において、
ほぼ同じ面積をもつ複数の離散的な第1の非データ・アイランドと、前記第1の非データ・アイランドの前記面積よりも狭いほぼ同じ面積をもつ複数の離散的な第2の非データ・アイランドがパターン化された複数のほぼ半径方向の非データ領域を同じ層内にもつ、磁化可能材料の記録層をもつディスクを準備するステップと、
前記第1及び第2の非データ・アイランドを同一方向に磁化するために、前記記録層に垂直な方向の第1のDC磁界を、第1の温度にある前記記録層の全体に加えるステップと、
前記第2の非データ・アイランドの前記磁化を反転するために、前記第1の温度より高い第2の温度に前記記録層を保ちつつ、前記記録層に垂直であり、かつ、前記第1のDC磁界と反対の方向の第2のDC磁界を前記記録層の全体に一定時間にわたり加えるステップと
を含む方法。 - 前記第1の温度が室温である請求項1に記載の方法。
- ディスクを準備するステップが、前記第2の非データ・アイランドの面積の前記第1の非データ・アイランドの面積に対する比が1:1.25と1:10の間にあるディスクを準備することを含む請求項1に記載の方法。
- ディスクを準備するステップが、前記記録層が非磁性空間により離隔される離散的データ・アイランドの同心データ・トラックにパターン化され、また、前記非データ領域が角度的に離隔配置され、かつ、ほぼ半径方向へ延びて前記同心データ・トラックにまたがるビットパターン化媒体ディスクを準備することを含む請求項1に記載の方法。
- ディスクを準備するステップが、前記記録層が連続磁化可能材料を含み、また、前記非データ領域が角度的に離隔配置され、かつ、ほぼ半径方向に延びてデータ・トラックにまたがる連続媒体ディスクを準備することを含む請求項1に記載の方法。
- ディスクを準備するステップが、前記記録層が同心非磁性保護帯により離隔される同心離散的データ・トラックにパターン化され、また、前記非データ領域が角度的に離隔配置され、かつ、ほぼ半径方向へ延びて前記同心離散的データ・トラックにまたがる離散的トラック媒体ディスクを準備することを含む請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の温度より高い温度に前記記録層を保つステップおよび前記第2のDC磁界を一定時間加えるステップは、
前記記録層を所定の温度T0に保ちつつ、所定の強度H2をもつ前記第2のDC磁界を受け入れ可能な誤差率を達成するために十分な所定の継続時間にわたり加えることを含み、
前記誤差率は、正しくない磁化方向をもつ前記第1及び第2の非データ・アイランドの個数を前記第1及び第2の非データ・アイランドの合計個数で除した値で与えられる、請求項1に記載の方法。 - アイランド磁化誤差率は、正しくない磁化方向をもつ前記第1及び第2の非データ・アイランドの個数を前記第1及び第2の非データ・アイランドの合計個数で除した値であり、かつ、受け入れ可能な誤差率を選択するステップと、選択された前記受け入れ可能な前記アイランド磁化誤差率から継続時間tおよび前記第2のDC磁界を加えるときの温度T0を決定するステップと、前記継続時間tおよび前記温度T0から前記第2のDC磁界の強度H2を決定するステップをさらに含む請求項1に記載の方法。
