Description
本発明は、視覚による、及び/又は、特に、タッチ感応ディスプレイ用には限定されない、触知可能なディスプレイ用の表示素子に関する。
現在、ディスプレイ技術はLCD,プラズマ、CRT,OLED/LED、プロジェクションの5つの主要なタイプに分類される。これらの技術は更に以下のようにカテゴリー化できる。
1.LCDやプロジェクション等のシャッタ付技術。これらはスクリーンの所定部分において光を通して所望の像を形成する。
2.スクリーン上の所定位置で光を放出し所望の像を表すプラズマ、CRTやOLED/LED等の放出性の技術。
本発明の一側面によれば、クレーム1による電気的に作動可能な表示素子を提供する。本発明の他の側面によれば、クレーム14による表示素子を提供する。
以下の明細書において、機能的に同様の部分は異なる実施形態間において同じ参照符号を用いる。
本発明の第1実施形態は、タッチ感応入力及び触知可能な出力を有する視覚表示スクリーンを有する。その視覚による、タッチ感応及び触知可能な機能は全て、圧電性物質等の電気的にアクティブな同じ材料によりもたらされる。本技術分野において知られているように、圧電性物質は機械的圧力に応じて電場を発生し、また電場の印加により物質内に応力を生み出す逆の圧電効果を示し、抑えられなければ物質の膨張又は縮小をもたらす。物質内のこの応力は、電場に比例することができる。圧電性物質はセラミックスやPVDF(ポリフッ化ビニリデン)等のポリマーとすることができる。圧電性物質の機械的及び電気的特性は、該物質の複数の層を設けることにより高めることができる。圧電性物質に代わるものとして、人工筋肉への用途が現在提案されているカーボンナノチューブ等(例えば、2009年3月20日サイエンス「Giant−Stroke,Superelastic Carbon Nanotube Aerogel Muscles」アリーヴ エー 他、VI.323、第5921番、1575−1578ページ参照)、電場に応じて形状又はサイズの変化を示す他の物質を用いることができる。
検出された電圧は圧力で異なるため、ディスプレイコントローラ10が各ピクセルに加えられた圧力のレベルを決定するようにして、これにより釣り合ったタッチ感応ディスプレイを可能にすることができる。各ピクセルは表示素子及び個別にアドレス可能な圧力変換器として効率的に働く。この技術は多くの新たなタッチ感応ディスプレイアプリケーションを可能とする。
本発明の第2実施形態において、視覚による及び/又は触知可能な表示機能は圧電性よりも電気的加熱による熱膨張によりもたらされる。しかしながら、タッチ感応用圧電性素子を含めても良い。第1実施形態と同様の部分は同じ参照符号で示し、簡潔性のため記述を繰り返さない。
圧電性素子4a、4b及び/又は熱膨張袋11a、11bと同様の効果を得るために、各セル2a、2b内に代わりの電気作動手段を設けることもできる。例えば、マイクロメカニカルアクチュエータを用いることができる。
Claims (8)
- 視覚性を有し、タッチ感応性を有し、かつ触知可能な機能を有するように構成された電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)を有する表示素子であって、
前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)は、基板(1)と実質的に透明で可撓性の表示面(7)との間で、実質的に不透明な流体(6)を入れたセル(2a;2b)内に配置され、電気的に駆動されて該電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)の一部(5a;5b)と前記表示面(7)との分離状態を変化させてこれらの間の流体(6)の厚さを変化させ、それで表示強度を変化させ、
前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)は、前記表示面(7)に接触したときに該表示面(7)上の圧力を検知するよう構成され、かつ、
前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)の前記一部(5a;5b)は、前記表示面(7)に近接又は接触させることで前記表示面(7)を歪ませて前記触知出力を出す表示素子。 - 前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)は、印加される圧力レベルを検知するように構成されている請求項1に記載の表示素子。
- 前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)の前記一部(5a;5b)は、光学的に反射性がある請求項1又は2に記載の表示素子。
- 前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)の前記一部(5a;5b)は、蛍光性である請求項1又は2に記載の表示素子。
- 前記表示面(7)は、前記一部(5a;5b)に光をガイドするように構成されている請求項3又は4に記載の表示素子。
- 前記流体(6)は導電性であり、前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)に電気接点を提供するよう構成されている請求項1乃至5の何れか一項に記載の表示素子。
- 前記電気作動可能素子(4a;4b)は、圧電性素子からなる前記請求項1乃至6の何れか一項に記載の表示素子。
- 請求項1乃至7の何れか一項に記載された個々に電気的にアドレス可能な表示素子の配列を有するディスプレイ。
