Description
本発明は、畳及び畳表に関する。
日本家屋の代表的な床材である畳は、畳床の上面を畳表で覆い、両側部を縁（へり）で固定したものである。畳表は一般的にはイ草（藺草）を密に並べて織ったものであり、通常の畳では、イ草は刈り取った後に泥染めを行うものの、使用時にはその泥を拭き取り、畳表はイ草の自然の色をそのまま表した状態で用いられる。
マンション等において洋間と和室が共存する状態においては、和室の外観において大きな部分を占める畳が洋間ともマッチすることが求められるようになる。それに応えるべく、従来、カラフルな縁を用いたり、イ草に染色をしたものが発明されてきた。

上記のような従来の装飾畳のうち、畳表に色を付与したものは、イ草を予め染色しておくことにより全面を着色したものか、畳表を織った後に着色して模様を表したものであった。そのため、洋間とのマッチングには適したものであったが、和室そのものとして見た場合、やはり、周囲の壁、襖、障子、天井、床の間等の風情と合わず、しっくりこないものであった。
本発明が解決しようとする課題は、純和風に近い、風情のある装飾畳を作ることのできる畳表及びそれを用いた畳を提供することである。
上記課題を解決するために成された本発明に係る畳表は、着色のない天然イ草の中に、本数にして1/10〜1/1000の割合で着色されたイ草がランダムに混在していることを特徴とする。
なお、ここでいう「着色」は、天然とは異なる色にすることを言い、白色を含む様々な色に着色することの他、脱色することも含む。
前記着色されたイ草は、天然イ草を着色したものの他、紙製イ草（紙縒（こより））を着色したもの、芯材に無色透明又は着色透明フィルムを被覆したもの、或いは、芯材の周囲に細い糸を巻き付けたものとすることができる。その太さは、天然イ草とほぼ同様とするか、やや細めとすることが望ましい。太すぎるとすり足にひっかかり、使用者に違和感を与える他、すり減りの問題も生ずる。
本願発明に係る畳表では、殆ど（9/10〜999/1000）が着色のない天然イ草で構成されるため、普通の畳表に近い風合いを持つ。そして、着色されたイ草が、規則的ではなくランダムに混在するため、この点でも自然な風合いに近くなり、和室にふさわしいものとなる。もちろん、その新規なデザインより、洋室にもマッチしたものとなる。
着色イ草として紙製イ草を用いれば、単に色を付与するだけではなく、紙に抗菌剤や芳香剤等を含浸させることにより、畳表（すなわち、畳）に様々な機能性を付与することができる。なお、後述の、紙縒の周囲に糸を巻き付けたものを用いる場合、糸に抗菌剤や芳香剤等を含浸させてもよい。
芯材に無色透明又は着色透明フィルムを被覆したものは、光の当たり具合によって光ったり落ち着いた色になったりするため、これを本発明の着色イ草として用いることにより、光の当たり具合や見る方向によって表情を変える装飾畳表（すなわち、畳）とすることができる。また、芯材の周囲に細い（150〜250番手程度の）糸を巻き付けたものを着色イ草として用いた場合は、和風の風合いを織り込むことができる。これらの芯材としては、上記紙縒や天然イ草等を用いることができる。
本発明に係る畳表の製造方法を図２により説明する。まず、天然のイ草を用意する。それとは別に、着色イ草を用意する。この着色イ草には、上記の通り、天然イ草を着色したもの、紙縒（こより）を着色したもの、芯材に無色透明又は着色透明フィルムを被覆したものを用いることができる。この着色イ草を天然イ草に、本数にして1/10〜1/1000の割合となるように混ぜ、良く混合する（ステップS11）。こうして混合したイ草を、通常の方法で製織する（ステップS12）。製織の際、縦糸としては、一般に用いられる麻糸や綿糸、合成繊維糸等を用いることができる。これで本発明に係る畳表が完成する。
この畳表を所定の長さ及び幅に切断し、畳床の上に置いて縁で固定することにより、畳が完成する（図１）。畳表には、通常、約4000本のイ草が並んでいる。従って、本発明に係る畳表１１を用いた畳１０では、1枚の畳に約4本から400本の着色イ草１３が存在することとなる。
なお、本発明に係る畳表は、通常の64目の畳の他、目積と呼ばれる128目の畳にも用いることができる。更には、畳床の上を覆って畳として用いられる畳表としてばかりではなく、それ自身のみでござとしても使用することができる。

- 着色のない天然イ草の中に、本数にして1/10〜1/1000の割合で着色されたイ草がランダムに混在していることを特徴とする畳表。
- 前記着色されたイ草が、天然イ草を着色したものである請求項１に記載の畳表。
- 前記着色されたイ草が、紙製イ草を着色したものである請求項１に記載の畳表。
- 前記着色されたイ草が、芯材に無色透明又は着色透明フィルムを被覆したものである請求項１に記載の畳表。
- 前記着色されたイ草が、芯材の周囲に細い糸を巻き付けたものである請求項１に記載の畳表。
- 請求項１〜５のいずれかに記載の畳表を用いた畳。
