Description
The present invention is suitable for purifying helium gas containing at least hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and air-derived nitrogen and oxygen as impurities, such as helium gas recovered after use in an optical fiber manufacturing process. It relates to a method and a device.
For example, there is a case where helium gas used in the optical fiber drawing process and diffused into the atmosphere after use is recovered and reused. Such recovered helium gas contains impurities such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen and oxygen derived from the air that are diffused into the atmosphere after use as impurities as impurities. It is necessary to increase the purity.
Therefore, a method is known in which impurities contained in the helium gas before purification are liquefied and removed by a deep cooling operation using liquid nitrogen as a cold heat source, and remaining trace impurities are adsorbed and removed by an adsorbent (Patent Document 1). reference). In addition, hydrogen is added to the helium gas before purification, and the hydrogen is reacted with oxygen as an air component as an impurity to generate moisture. After removing the moisture, the remaining impurities are removed by the membrane separation means. A method is known (see Patent Document 2). Furthermore, a method is known in which impurities contained in a rare gas such as helium before purification are removed by contacting with an alloy getter (see Patent Document 3).
The method described in Patent Document 1 requires a deep cooling operation with liquid nitrogen, so that the cooling energy increases. The method described in
When purifying a helium gas containing at least hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and air-derived nitrogen and oxygen as impurities, the method of the present invention reacts oxygen, hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the helium gas using a catalyst. Then, carbon dioxide and water are generated in a state where oxygen remains, and then hydrogen is added so that the hydrogen molar concentration in the helium gas exceeds twice the oxygen molar concentration. Oxygen and hydrogen in the helium gas are reacted using a catalyst to generate water with hydrogen remaining, and then the water content of the helium gas is reduced by dehydration, and then the helium Hydrogen in the gas reacts with the metal oxide to produce water, and then at least nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water among the impurities in the helium gas, It is adsorbed by a pressure swing adsorption method using an oleite-based adsorbent, and then adsorbs at least nitrogen in impurities in the helium gas by a thermal swing adsorption method at −10 ° C. to −50 ° C. To do.
According to the present invention, first, carbon dioxide and water are generated in a state where oxygen remains as a part of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which are contained as impurities in helium gas, using a catalyst. . As a result, hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the helium gas react with oxygen and are removed. Next, water is generated with hydrogen remaining by reacting oxygen in helium gas with added hydrogen. The amount of hydrogen added is slightly more than the amount of hydrogen theoretically required to react with all oxygen in the helium gas, so that the amount of hydrogen remaining in the reaction with oxygen can be reduced. Next, the moisture content of helium gas is reduced by dehydration. Thereby, oxygen and water in helium gas are removed, and the moisture adsorption load can be reduced. Next, water is generated by reacting hydrogen in helium gas with a metal oxide. This reaction between hydrogen and the metal oxide is prevented from being suppressed by moisture because a dehydration operation has been performed before that. Thereby, it is possible to cope with a case where hydrogen in the helium gas is removed and hydrogen reduction is required. The main impurities of helium gas are nitrogen, a small amount of carbon dioxide, and a small amount of water. Therefore, the carbon dioxide concentration and the water content can be easily reduced by the pressure swing adsorption method. Since the adsorption effect of nitrogen can be enhanced by using a zeolite-based adsorbent in the pressure swing adsorption method, the nitrogen adsorption load in the subsequent thermal swing adsorption method can be reduced. Further, since the adsorption of oxygen by the thermal swing adsorption method can be made unnecessary, the impurity adsorption temperature can be increased as compared with the case of adsorbing oxygen. Therefore, the recovery rate and purity of helium gas can be increased without increasing the cooling energy during the adsorption process.

According to the present invention, the impurity content in helium gas mixed with at least hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and air-derived nitrogen and oxygen as impurities is effectively reduced without requiring large purification energy, thereby reducing the cost.
A helium gas purification device α shown in FIG. 1 includes a helium gas supply source 1 to be purified, a

The
The
