Claims (5)
- レーザ光を投射面に投影することによって、前記投射面上に画像を表示する画像表示装置において、
表示すべき階調がしきい値未満の場合には、所定の表示期間において、基準クロックに基づいて生成された少なくとも一つのオン期間を含む第1の波形パターンを選択するとともに、前記表示すべき階調が前記しきい値以上の場合には、前記所定の表示期間において、前記基準クロックに基づいて生成された複数のオン期間および複数のオフ期間を含む第2の波形パターンを選択する波形パターン選択部と、
前記表示すべき階調に応じた出力レベルのレーザ光を、前記波形パターン選択部によって選択された前記第1の波形パターンまたは前記第2の波形パターンにしたがって出射するレーザ光源とを有し、
前記第1の波形パターンにおける前記少なくとも一つのオン期間は、前記レーザ光源に固有の緩和振動期間よりも長く、
前記第2の波形パターンにおける前記オン期間のそれぞれは、前記レーザ光源に固有の緩和振動期間以下であることを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記第2の波形パターンは、前記オン期間および前記オフ期間よりなる単位周期を複数回繰り返すことによって構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載された画像表示装置。
- 前記レーザ光源に供給される駆動電流は、前記オフ期間では、前記表示すべき階調に関わりなく、前記レーザ光源のバイアス電流以下の電流レベルに設定され、前記オン期間では、前記表示すべき階調に応じた電流レベルに設定されることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載された画像表示装置。
- 前記しきい値は、波長の異なるレーザ光を出射する前記レーザ光源毎に、異なる値に設定されていることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれかに記載された画像表示装置。
- 緑成分の前記しきい値は、赤成分の前記しきい値よりも小さいことを特徴とする請求項4に記載された画像表示装置。
