Description
水素化スチレンブタジエン星形共重合体と混合する工程を含み、その星形共重合体は約3〜25重量%のスチレン対97〜75重量%のブタジエンの比率のスチレンとブタジエンから形成され、水素化度が少なくとも95%である。
本発明は潤滑油添加剤、特に、水素化スチレン−ブタジエン星形共重合体を含んでなる粘度指数向上剤に関する。星形共重合体の形成に使用される単量体に関するスチレン対ブタジエンの比率は約3〜25%のスチレンと97〜75%のブタジエン、あるいは約5〜20%のスチレンと95〜80%のブタジエンである。一例において、星形共重合体中の成分の生成物のうちで、スチレンは約10%であり、ブタジエンは90%である。この星形共重合体は基油中に約1〜20重量%として溶解される。その後、潤滑油添加剤は完全に配合されたクランク室のモーター油中への使用の準備ができる。

完全配合潤滑油組成物中に使用される潤滑油添加剤の量は、完全配合潤滑油組成物中約0.1〜5重量%の星形共重合体を提供するのに十分であり、あるいはまた、完全配合潤滑油の約.3〜2重量%、または更に約.5〜1.5重量%である。
以下の方法を使用して、スチレン/ブタジエン星形共重合体の一例を形成し、基油中にそれを取り入れて潤滑油添加剤を形成した。この実施例において、スチレン単量体とブタジエン単量体の完全にランダムな重合が存在する。
a.ブタジエンの1,2対1,4重合の量を制御するための調整剤としてのテトラヒドロフランの存在下で、触媒としてn−ブチルリチウムを使用してシクロヘキサン溶媒中で、約10%濃度、30〜70℃において、清浄な、酸素と湿度を含まない反応器中でブタジエン(〜90%)とスチレン(〜10%)を共重合させた。共重合は約20分で完了した。次に、重合体を星形構造物にカップリングさせるために、反応器にジビニルベンゼンを添加する。これは約60分を要する。最後にtert−ブタノールを反応物に添加して、更なる連鎖の延長が起り得ないように、あらゆる残存活性中心を中和する。
b.次に星形共重合体の溶液を、120℃でチタン触媒を使用して水素化し、そこで99+%の水素化度が達成される。
c.次に、一連の蒸気ストリッピング、押し出しおよび乾燥工程により、溶液から水素化スチレン−コ−ブタジエンの星形共重合体が回収される。
d.溶液を窒素雰囲気下で120〜150℃に4〜8時間加熱することにより、乾燥された水素化スチレン−コ−ブタジエンの星形共重合体を、約12重量%の重合体として基油中に溶解する。
以下の方法を使用して、スチレン/ブタジエン星形共重合体の一例を形成し、基油中にそれを取り入れて潤滑油添加剤を形成した。この実施例において、スチレンとブタジエンの星形ブロック共重合体が形成される。
a.スチレン(〜10%)を、触媒としてn−ブチルリチウムを使用してシクロヘキサン
溶媒中で、約10%濃度、30〜70℃で、清浄な、酸素および湿度を含まない反応器中で重合させ、約20分後に、ブタジエンの1,2および1,4重合量を制御するための調整剤としてのテトラヒドロフランの存在下で、ブタジエン(〜90%)を反応器に添加する。更なる重合は約20分で完了する。次に、重合体を星形構造物にカップリングさせるために反応器にジビニルベンゼンを添加する。これは約60分かかる。最後にtert−ブタノールを反応物に添加して、更なる連鎖延長が起り得ないように、あらゆる残存活性中心を中和する。
b.次に星形共重合体の溶液を、120℃でチタン触媒を使用して水素化し、そこで99+%の水素化度が達成される。

以上の共重合体を使用して、潤滑油添加剤のサンプルを配合し、市販の基準製品と比較した。基準製品はShellVis 261(SV−261)およびLubrizol Lz7077(Lz7077)である。以下の表1は、潤滑油添加剤および前記の完全配合潤滑油組成物に対する基準品の物理的特徴および性能の属性の説明である。

Claims (7)
- 粘度指数向上剤を含んでなる潤滑油であって、
(a)粘度指数向上剤が、水素化スチレンブタジエン星形共重合体、および基油を含んでなり、
ここで星形共重合体は3〜25重量%のスチレン対97〜75重量%のブタジエンの比率のスチレン単量体とブタジエン単量体から形成され、3本以上のアームをもち、各アームの分子量は50,000を超え、
星形共重合体の水素化度は少なくとも95%であり、
星形共重合体は潤滑油の0.1〜5重量%で含まれてなる、
そして
(b)潤滑油が、100℃における全般的に等しい動粘度において(a)に記載された粘度指数向上剤と同等な希釈濃度おける水素化スチレンイソプレン星形重合体またはオレフィン共重合体を含む潤滑油に比較して、少なくとも5000cPのミニロータリー粘度計(MRV TP−1)値の改善を有する、
潤滑油。 - スチレン単量体とブタジエン単量体の比率が5〜20%のスチレン対95〜80%のブタジエンである、請求項1の潤滑油。
- スチレン単量体とブタジエン単量体の比率が10%のスチレンと90%のブタジエンである、請求項1の潤滑油。
- 星形重合体が水素化されたランダムスチレン−ブタジエン共重合体を含んでなる、請求項1の潤滑油。
- 星形重合体が水素化されたスチレン−ブタジエンブロック共重合体を含んでなる、請求項1の潤滑油。
- 基油を水素化スチレンブタジエン星形共重合体と混合する工程を含んでなる、粘度指数向上剤を調製する方法であって、
星形共重合体が3〜25重量%のスチレン対97〜75重量%のブタジエンの比率のスチレンとブタジエンから形成され、そしてその水素化度が少なくとも95%であり、3本以上のアームをもち、各アームの分子量は50,000を超える、
方法。 - 潤滑油を粘度指数向上剤と混合する工程を含んでなる、潤滑油のミニロータリー粘度計値(MRV TP−1)を改善させる方法であって、
その粘度指数向上剤が、
(a)水素化スチレンブタジエン星形共重合体
