Description
内燃機関におけるスパークプラグに関する主たる摩耗のメカニズムは、高火花電圧による高温において酸化し易い状態で使用することに起因する電極の不具合である。通常はプラチナの含有率が高い合金である貴金属合金が、先に述べたメカニズムによって生じる浸食に耐えるために使用されている。熱応力がより厳しい側電極で使用する場合は、プラチナ合金は、貴金属とニッケル合金ベース電極の間の溶接接合部に掛かる熱応力を下げるのに役立つ金属を含んでいなければならない。現下のプラチナ合金は、プラチナ強化部が上面に溶着されているニッケルベース電極の熱膨張(CTE)係数に、良好に適合させるため、10%のニッケルを有している。近年、プラチナの価格は、100%も上昇してきている。
次に、図2は、本発明の非限定的な例示的な実施形態を示しており、ここでは、中央電極22は、銅芯26を収容する外鞘24を含んでいる。外鞘24は、端面20で終端するネックダウン部28を有する端部まで続いている。或る例示的な実施形態によれば、外鞘22、ネックダウン部28、及び端面20は、ニッケルベース合金を含んでおり、このため、電極先端部が固定されている電極の部分のCTEに近いCTEを持っている電極を有しているのが望ましい。

Claims (3)
- スパークプラグにおいて、
絶縁シェルと、
前記絶縁シェルの内側の、一方の端部が前記絶縁シェルから突出している中央電極と、
前記絶縁シェルの外側の金属シェルと、
一端が前記金属シェルと連結されており、他端が前記中央電極の前記突出している端部と面していて前記中央電極との間にスパーク放電間隙を形成している、側接地電極と、
前記側接地電極又は前記中央電極の少なくとも一方に固定されており、前記スパーク放電間隙に配置されている電極先端部であって、前記合金の総重量を基準に、33から35重量%のパラジウムと、9から10重量%のイリジウムと、残りのプラチナとを含んでいるプラチナベース合金を備えている、電極先端部と、を備えているスパークプラグ。 - 前記中央電極と前記側接地電極は、ニッケルベースの合金を含んでいる、請求項1に記載のスパークプラグ。
- 前記電極先端部は、抵抗溶接で、前記中央電極又は前記側接地電極と接合されている、請求項1に記載のスパークプラグ。
