Claims (2)
- 対向する一対の基板間に液晶が挟持され、前記液晶に電界を印加しない状態で黒表示となる液晶表示装置であって、
前記一対の基板のうち一方の基板は、
絶縁層を介して配置される上部電極と下部電極とを有し、前記上部電極は、画素領域の一方向に延在するスリット形状の一方端または両端で当該電極が接続される形状の開口部が形成されるとともに、前記下部電極は前記上部電極の全面に対向して形成され、前記上部電極と前記下部電極との間で前記電界を発生させる一対の電極と、
ラビング方向に対し初期液晶配向方向が直交する特性を有するポリイミド膜またはポリスチレン膜を布製のローラで一方向に擦ってラビング処理した配向膜と、
を有し、
前記開口部の長手方向と前記初期液晶配向方向との間の角度である初期配向角度θの範囲を0°<θ≦45°として、前記開口部の長手方向と前記ラビング方向との間の角度を90°±θとした、
液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記一対の基板の前記液晶と反対側に透過軸が互いに直交する偏光層がそれぞれ配置され、
前記透過軸の一方は前記ラビング方向に直交し、かつ前記開口部の長手方向と略平行である液晶表示装置。
