Description
本願は、2006年6月27日に出願され、米国公開番号2006/0257219として公開された同時係属米国特許出願番号11/460,383の部分的継続出願であって、米国公開番号2006/0257219は、現在米国特許番号7,090,445である、2005年5月10日に出願された先行特許出願番号11/125、897の継続出願であり、2005年1月18日に出願された“選択的偏向部材を備える工具”と題する米国仮特許出願番号60/644、732の開示からの優先権を主張するものである。米国公開番号2006/0257219および米国特許番号7,090,445を含む上記特許出願は、ここに参照として含まれる。
本発明の実施形態は、一般的にボーリング工具およびリーミング工具に関係し、特に、長さ−直径比が相対的に高い穴を形成することができる、または当該穴を広げることができる、放射状に調節可能な工具に関する。
本明細書に組み込まれ、本明細書の一部をなす添付の図面は、本発明のいくつかの側面を説明し、説明とともに本発明の原理を示す役割を有する。しかしながら、本発明がここに示される構成に厳密に限定されるものではないことは分かるであろう。図面では、いくつかの図面における同じ構成には、同じ参照番号が付してある。
ここで図面を詳細に参照するが、同じ数字は、図を通して同一の構成を示し、図1および図2は近接端部4および遠方端部6を有する工具2を示す。溝8は、近接端部4から遠方端部6に向かって工具2の軸に沿って設けられている。ここで用いられるように、“溝”という用語には、液体、物質等が伝達され、通過する、または連絡されるあらゆる流路、他の構造または構成が含まれる。本実施例では、溝8は、工具2を介した液体媒体の連絡を可能にする。しかしながら、液体の連絡を行うために、他の適切な構成を用い得ることは、当業者であれば分かるであろう。
Claims (15)
- 加工品を加工するための工具であって、
細長部材と、挿入部材とを備え、
(a)上記細長部材は、
(i)軸、角度、および放射方向を規定する中央軸と、
(ii)第1端部および第2端部と、
(iii)上記第1端部に配置される少なくとも2つの末端であって、当該末端のうちの少なくとも1つは少なくとも1つのブレード部材を備えている末端と、
(iv)上記少なくとも2つの末端に隣接するスロットであって、上記スロットは上記第2端部に向かって伸びるとともに、第1端部において開き、上記スロットは挿入部材を受け入れるように形成されているスロットと、
(v)上記スロットと液体を連絡する溝と、
を備え、
(b)上記挿入部材は、上記スロット内に配置されるとともに2つの側面を有し、
上記挿入部材は、上記スロットに連絡される液体を、上記少なくとも2つの末端のうちの1つ以上に向かわせるように形成され、
上記挿入部材は調節機構を備え、当該調節機構は、上記挿入部材を介して上記少なくとも2つの末端の1つ以上に連絡される液体の流速または圧力のどちらか一方または両方を選択的に調節するように動作可能である、工具。 - 上記挿入部材は、上記2つの側面を有するプレートを有している、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記プレートは、第1端部および第2端部を有し、
上記プレートの各側面は、当該各側面内に形成される少なくとも1つの開口部を有し、
上記プレートは、上記第2端部から上記開口部の各々へと伸びる少なくとも1つの流路をさらに有し、
上記流路は、上記溝から上記開口部の各々へと液体を連絡するように形成されている、請求項2に記載の工具。 - 上記プレートの各側面は、凹部をさらに有し、
上記開口部は、上記各凹部の各々の中に設けられている、請求項3に記載の工具。 - 上記凹部の各々の中に配置される少なくとも1つのウェハをさらに備えている、請求項4に記載の工具。
- 上記調節機構は、少なくとも部分的に上記挿入部材の中に配置されるニードルバルブを備えている、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記ニードルバルブは、窪んだ形状のヘッド部を備えている、請求項6に記載の工具。
- 上記挿入部材は、上記少なくとも1つのブレード部材と上記中央軸との間の距離を、液体の圧力の作用によって変化させるように形成されている、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記少なくとも1つのブレード部材は、上記軸および角度の方向に実質的に維持され、当該少なくとも1つのブレード部材は、上記放射方向に移動幅だけ前進するように形成されている、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記ニードルバルブの位置は、上記中央軸によって規定される上記軸方向に沿って調節される、請求項6に記載の工具。
- 上記ニードルバルブは、長手方向軸を規定し、
上記ニードルバルブによって規定される上記長手方向軸が、上記中央軸と一致する、請求項6に記載の工具。 - 上記スロットおよび上記挿入部材は、上記中央軸に沿って配置されている、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記細長部材を駆動して、当該細長部材の中央軸の周りで当該細長部材を回転させるように形成されている回転作動装置をさらに備える、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記挿入部材と液体を連絡する加圧液体供給部をさらに備える、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 上記加圧液体供給部は、放射方向にある上記少なくとも1つのブレード部材を、複数の異なる使用位置のうちの少なくとも1つに選択的に偏向するために、上記挿入部材に加圧液体を供給するように動作可能である、請求項14に記載の工具。
