Claims (5)
- 視覚領域、
光学スペクトル範囲において実質的に透明な媒体、
少なくとも2つのタイプの独立に制御可能な電気泳動粒子、
前記媒体中の前記粒子の分布を制御する手段、及び
前記視覚領域に存在しない粒子を保持する、前記視覚領域の外部に配置された少なくとも1つのリザーバー、
を有する画素を有する、着色画像を生成する電気泳動表示装置であって、
前記粒子の各タイプは、光学スペクトル範囲の第1部分に関して実質的に透過性を有し、実質的に非散乱性であり、且つ、前記光学スペクトル範囲の第2部分に関して吸収性を有し、
前記第1部分及び前記第2部分は、共に前記光学スペクトル範囲をカバーし、且つ
前記粒子の各タイプの光学スペクトル範囲の前記第2部分同士は互いに、実質的に重なり合わない、
ことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記の共に重なり合わない第2部分は、前記光学スペクトル範囲を実質的にカバーすることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記画素の背部に設けられた白色ディフューザー若しくは粗い反射体である背景反射体を有すること、又は、前方散乱フィルムと、前記画素の背部に設けられた鏡面反射体である背景反射体とを有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記画素は、前記光学スペクトル範囲のかなりの部分において吸収性である他の種類の独立に制御可能な電気泳動粒子をさらに有し、
前記光学スペクトル範囲のかなりの部分は、前記第2部分の少なくとも一部が重なり合う部分を含む、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記画素は、前記粒子を前記リザーバーから前記視覚領域へと、或いは、前記粒子を前記視覚領域から前記リザーバーへと、選択的に移動する少なくとも2つの電極を有していることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
