Description
第1および第2の部分は異なる組成および/または硬度を有する。第1の部分は、バルーンのほぼ全長にわたって延びる。第2の部分は第1の部分より軟質である。第2の部分は、第1の部分のほぼ全体にわたって配置される。これらの部分はバルーンのほぼ全長にわたって延びる。これらの部分の厚さはバルーンの長さ方向において連続的に可変である。これらの部分の一方の厚さは、バルーンの長さ方向において段階的に可変である。
第2の部分は第1の部分よりも軟質である。第1および第2の部分は異なる硬度を有する。第1の部分はバルーンのほぼ全長にわたって延びる。第2の部分はバルーンのほぼ全長にわたって延びる。

図1において、バルーンカテーテル20は、カテーテル24に担持されたバルーン22を備える。バルーンカテーテルの例は、たとえばワン(Wang)に付与された米国特許第5,915,969号、ハムリン(Hamlin)に付与された米国特許第5,270,086号に記載されており、米国ミネソタ州メープルグローブに所在するボストン サイエンティフィック社−シメッド ライフ システムズ社((Boston Scientific Corp.−Scimed Life Systems,Inc.)から販売されているMaverick(登録商標)またはSymbiot(登録商標)カテーテルシステムによって実証されている。図2に示すように、バルーン22は複数の(図では2つ)ポリマー層26、28を含む壁構造を有する。層26、28は、通常異なるポリマー組成物から形成される。ポリマー組成物、層の厚さすなわち層の有無、およびバルーンの全体的な壁厚(T)は、バルーンの性能を向上させるために、その長さ(長手方向すなわち軸方向の軸線A)に沿ってバルーンの特性を制御するように選択される。たとえば、バルーンの剛性をバルーンの軸線方向において可変的に設定することにより、カテーテル上に担持されたバルーンを血管などの蛇行する体管腔内へ容易に搬送することができる。バルーンの一部は押圧性を強化するために比較的高い剛性を有し、他の部分は横方向の可撓性を強化、すなわちガイドワイヤ上などにおける追従性を強化するために比較的高い可撓性を有することが可能である。さらに、バルーンの様々な部分の機能を強化するために、バルーンの各部分の膨張性、接合性、およびステント担持性を、バルーンに沿って制御することができる。
以下に述べるいずれの材料も、任意の組合せにおいて、本明細書で説明される任意の層を形成するために使用することができる。硬軟度は、通常、バルーンの他のポリマーと相対的に考慮される。所定の層に2つ以上の材料を使用することも可能である。
バルーン22は、管材を形成し、その管材をバルーンに成形することによって製造することができる。
たとえば、管材は押出成形法によって製造されてもよい。この方法は、通常、一連のディスクを有する押出成形装置(たとえば、コンパクトクロスヘッドなどのクロスヘッド)を使用する。ゾーン加熱温度、ポリマー濃度、送り速度、およびライン速度などのいくつかの例示的な操作条件が、2001年3月2日付けで出願された米国特許出願番号第09/798,749号(発明の名称:多層からなる医療器具(Multilayer Medical Device))に記載されており、同特許文献に開示された内容は本願においても開示されたものとする。
