Description
比較例として、実施例1と液晶材料のみ異なるパネルを作成した。本比較例に用いた液晶材料Bは、誘電率異方性が+4.3(1kHz,25℃)であり、異常光屈折率が1.5938、常光屈折率が1.4934、屈折率異方性が0.100(波長546nm,25℃)、平均弾性定数が7.8(25℃)のネマティック液晶組成物を封入した。本比較例のパネルコントラストは870であった。
4:ところどころ物足りなさを感じるが、概ね美しい画像が見られる
3:美しさを感じることはほとんどないが、不満もない
2:ところどころ不満がある
1:強く不満を感じる
この結果を表3に示す。表中の数字は被験者7名の平均点である。

Claims (7)
- 一対の基板と、
前記一対の基板に挟持された液晶層と、
前記一対の基板の一方に形成され、前記液晶層に電界を印加するための電極群と、を有する液晶パネルと、
前記一対の基板にそれぞれ配置された一対の偏光板と、
前記一対の基板の外側に配置する光源ユニットと、を有し、
前記電極群は共通電極,画素電極および走査電極を含み、
前記液晶層中の液晶の配向方向は前記走査電極の方向と平行であり、
前記液晶層は、常光屈折率が1.46以上1.49以下であり、
異常光屈折率が1.54以上1.59以下であり、
平均弾性定数が11.2×10-12N以上25×10-12N以下であって、
ネマティック相を示す液晶材料を有し、
前記液晶パネルのコントラストは、1000以上であり、
最大輝度表示に対する相対輝度5%の値と最小輝度との比で示す階調コントラスト比が少なくとも50である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記液晶材料の屈折率異方性と前記液晶層の厚みを乗じた複屈折位相差が、0.32×10-6m以上0.40×10-6m以下である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記液晶材料の平均弾性定数が11.5×10-12N以上20×10-12N以下である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至3のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記液晶材料の平均弾性定数が15×10-12N以上20×10-12N以下である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至4のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置において、
最大輝度表示に対する相対輝度4%の値と最小輝度との比で示す階調コントラスト比が少なくとも50である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至5のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置において、
最大輝度表示に対する相対輝度5%の値と最小輝度との比で示す階調コントラスト比が、パネルの左右方向に対して鉛直方向から33度の範囲内で少なくとも50である液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至6のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置において、
最大輝度表示に対する相対輝度4%の値と最小輝度との比で示す階調コントラスト比が、パネルの左右方向に対して鉛直方向から33度の範囲内で少なくとも50である液晶表示装置。
