近年、自動車のエンジンの小型化および高性能化の要請に伴い、エンジン等の部品に設けた複数の穴が互いに近接してきた。そのために、その部品のシール面の穴間隔が狭くなっており、従来のメタルガスケットにおいてはシール(密封)のためのエンボス(ビード)が穴間に1本のみしか通らない場合がある。
