BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method for producing chloroformic acid benzyl esters by chloroformylating benzyl alcohols.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, as a method for producing benzyl chloroformate, for example, a method of reacting benzyl alcohol with phosgene in dioxane is known (see Non-Patent Document 1).
[0003]
[Non-Patent Document 1]
Journal of American Chemical Society, 1952, vol. 74, pages 3818-3821
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the yield of chloroformic acid benzyl esters is not always satisfactory in the above conventional methods. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a method capable of producing chlorochloroformate benzyl esters from benzyl alcohols in good yield.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
As a result of intensive studies, the present inventors have found that the above object can be achieved by reacting benzyl alcohol with phosgene in the presence of a certain kind of aromatic amine, and have completed the present invention.
[0006]
That is, the present invention provides the following formula (1):
[0007]
[Formula 4]
[0008]
(In the formula, R 1 and R 2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.)
The present invention provides a method for producing benzyl chloroformate by reacting benzyl alcohol and phosgene in the presence of the aromatic amine represented by formula (1).
[0009]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The starting benzyl alcohol used in the present invention is one in which 1 to 5 hydrogen atoms of the phenyl group of benzyl alcohol or benzyl alcohol are substituted with an organic group, a nitro group, a halogen atom, etc. What is shown by following formula (1) can be mentioned.
[0010]
[Chemical formula 5]
[0011]
(In the formula, X represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a nitro group or a halogen atom.)
[0012]
In the formula (2), the alkyl group represented by X is, for example, methyl group, ethyl group, n-propyl group, isopropyl group, n-butyl group, isobutyl group, s-butyl group, t-butyl group, n -An alkyl group having about 1 to 10 carbon atoms such as a pentyl group, and the alkoxy group represented by X is, for example, a methoxy group, an ethoxy group, an n-propoxy group, an isopropoxy group, or an n-butoxy group The halogen atom represented by X can be a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, or an iodine atom. Further, the substitution position of X on the phenyl group may be any of the ortho position, the meta position, and the para position with respect to the hydroxymethyl group.
[0013]
As the raw material benzyl alcohols, two or more of them can be used as necessary.
[0014]
By using what is shown by said Formula (2) as benzyl alcohol, what is shown by following formula (3) can be manufactured as chloroformic acid benzyl ester.
[0015]
[Chemical 6]
[0016]
(In the formula, X represents the same meaning as described above.)
[0017]
The amount of phosgene used for the reaction with benzyl alcohol is usually 0.7 mol or more, preferably 0.9 to 1.1 mol, per 1 mol of benzyl alcohol. Phosgene may be used in a gaseous form or in a liquid form.
[0018]
In the present invention, the reaction between benzyl alcohol and phosgene is carried out in the presence of the aromatic amine represented by the formula (1). By doing so, the chloroformylation reaction of benzyl alcohol proceeds smoothly, and the target product, chloroformic acid benzyl ester, can be obtained in good yield.
[0019]
In the formula (1) showing an aromatic amine, the alkyl group represented by R 1 and R 2 is, for example, methyl group, ethyl group, n-propyl group, isopropyl group, n-butyl group, isobutyl group, s It can be an alkyl group having about 1 to 10 carbon atoms, such as a -butyl group, a t-butyl group, and an n-pentyl group.
[0020]
The usage-amount of an aromatic amine is 0.25 mol or more normally with respect to 1 mol of benzyl alcohol, Preferably it is 0.5-1 mol. Two or more aromatic amines can be used as necessary.
[0021]
Examples of the reaction solvent that can be used in the above reaction include aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and xylene, aromatic halogenated hydrocarbons such as chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzene, and aliphatics such as hexane and heptane. Examples include hydrocarbons, halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane and 1,2-dichloroethane, ethers such as diethyl ether and dioxane, and esters such as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. Two or more of them can also be used. Of these, aromatic hydrocarbons and aromatic halogenated hydrocarbons are preferable from the viewpoint of the yield of chloroformate benzyl esters and the handling property.
[0022]
About the supply method of benzyl alcohol, phosgene, and an aromatic amine, it can select suitably, For example, benzyl alcohol and aromatic amine may be melt | dissolved in a reaction solvent, and phosgene may be introduce | transduced into this. Then, the aromatic amine may be dissolved in the reaction solvent, and benzyl alcohols and phosgene may be injected into the reaction solvent, or the benzyl alcohols may be dissolved in the reaction solvent and the aromatic amine and phosgene may be injected together. May be.
[0023]
The reaction is preferably carried out at a relatively low temperature, and is usually carried out in the range of −10 to 10 ° C., preferably 0 to 5 ° C. The reaction time depends on the amount of each component and the reaction temperature, but is usually about 0.5 to 10 hours.
[0024]
The post-treatment operation after the reaction can be appropriately selected. For example, when unreacted phosgene is present in the reaction solution, it is preferable to perform detoxification and then wash with water. The obtained chloroformic acid benzyl ester can be subjected to purification operations such as distillation and crystallization, if necessary.
[0025]
【Example】

The oil layer was washed with 61 g of water to obtain 254 g of a toluene solution of p-nitrobenzyl chloroformate. As a result of analyzing this solution by liquid chromatography, the concentration of p-nitrobenzyl chloroformate was 21.5% by weight, and the yield was 97%.
[0027]
Comparative Example 1
A 500 ml flask was charged with 150 g of toluene, 30 g (0.20 mol) of p-nitrobenzyl alcohol and 8.5 g (0.11 mol) of pyridine, and cooled to 0 ° C. with stirring. In this, 19 g (0.20 mol) of phosgene was blown in over 1.5 hours, and then held at 5 ° C. or lower for 2 hours. 46 g of water and 5 g of 20% by weight hydrochloric acid were added to this reaction solution and held for 2 hours, followed by separation into an oil layer and an aqueous layer to obtain 208 g of a toluene solution of p-nitrobenzyl chloroformate as the oil layer.
