Description
【0001】
なお、図7の(a)、(b)、(c)は図6の(a)、(b)、(c)に対応している。
【0030】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is applied to polarization-maintaining optical amplifiers, multiplexers, demultiplexers, etc., in transmission systems that apply polarization maintenance such as polarization multiplexing transmission to increase the speed and capacity of information transmission. With respect to the optical multiplexer / demultiplexer, a sufficient polarization crosstalk characteristic is obtained particularly within the operating temperature range.
[0002]
[Prior art]
For example, an optical multiplexer / demultiplexer having a characteristic of combining (multiplexing) or separating (demultiplexing) light of a plurality of systems having different wavelengths has been proposed.
In this optical multiplexer / demultiplexer, a dielectric multilayer film 2 is sandwiched between two cylindrical 0.25 pitch

[0006]
However, in the optical multiplexer / demultiplexer having such a structure, it is difficult to maintain the polarization plane in the optical multiplexer / demultiplexer because the

[0007]
On the other hand, from the conventional proposal (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 8-22702), if the operating temperature range of the optical multiplexer / demultiplexer is equal to or higher than the glass transition temperature of the adhesive to be used, the polarization maintaining optical fiber of the adhesive It has been found that the polarization crosstalk characteristics are unlikely to deteriorate.
In parts that use polarization maintaining optical fibers, one of the important characteristics is polarization crosstalk. To obtain good characteristics, it is necessary to reduce the external stress applied to the polarization maintaining optical fiber. It is said. In other words, the physical properties (hardness, cure shrinkage, glass transition temperature, etc.) of the adhesive used to fix the polarization maintaining optical fiber greatly affect the polarization crosstalk characteristics, so the selection of the adhesive to be used is important. .
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to obtain an optical multiplexer / demultiplexer having sufficient polarization crosstalk characteristics in the operating temperature range.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve such a problem, in the optical multiplexer / demultiplexer according to
Two optical fiber strands, at least one of which is a polarization-maintaining optical fiber, are inserted into a square columnar pore formed in the capillary, and the center of the two optical fiber strands is the rectangular column shape. An optical multiplexer / demultiplexer fixed so as to be on the diagonal of the square of the opening of the pore,
The angle formed by the square diagonal line of the opening of the square columnar pore and the straight line connecting the two stress applying members of the polarization maintaining optical fiber is 45 ° ± 15 °.
