不幸にも、ポリイミドは、高価であり且つ既に配向された補償器層上に流延されるときに欠陥を生じさせ得る。従って、補償器層の製造は、しばしば、感圧性接着剤を使用するラミネートによる多層コーティング及びフィルムの転移を必要とする。このプロセスは、配向層を(ガラスのような)基材にコーティングし、次いで、配向層に、同配向層の光軸の配向を誘起させ、及びLCD又は補償器層のスタック上に配向された補償器層をラミネートし、このようにして、配向層から分離することを含む。付加的な補償器層もまた、同様にラミネートによって補償器層スタック上に付加することができる。転移されるべきフィルムは薄く(例えば、約1μ)且つ大きな面積の(例えば、約43×43cmのような)欠陥を生じさせ得る。結局、多層フィルム転移ラミネートを必要とする製造は、効率が悪く、労働集約的で、高価である。
例:ポリイミドを含まない配向層を使用した飛行ディスプレイ用途のためのLCDの製造
図3は、飛行ディスプレイ用途に対して使用されるLCDスタック300の図であり、同LCDスタック300は、前方偏光器層302、偏光器層302の後方のC−プレート304、C−プレート304の後方の液晶セル306、液晶セル306の後方のA−プレート308、A−プレート308の後方の第1及び第2のO−プレート310、312並びにO−プレート312の後方の後方偏光器層314を含んでいる(“斜めに配向された異方性網状組織を使用するLCDのためのテイバー、グレースケール及びコントラスト補償器層”、SPIE、第3363巻、第164頁参照)。LCDは、図に示されているように、第1の偏光器層を介して見られている。
Claims (9)
- 液晶ディスプレイのための配向層であって、
光硬化性エポキシ樹脂と反応性メソゲンとの一様な混合物によって作られた、硬化した等方性の透明で複屈折性を有さないポリマーフィルムからなり、
前記エポキシ樹脂及び反応性メソゲンの硬化した混合物は、硬化されたエポキシ樹脂内でランダムな向きに配向される重合された液晶分子を含む等方性の透明で且つ複屈折性を有さないポリマーフィルムを構成し、前記等方性の透明で且つ複屈折性を有さないポリマーフィルムの露出された表面における前記重合された液晶分子が、これに続いて前記ポリマーフィルムをラビング処理することによりあらゆる方位角方向に配向される、前記混合物がポリイミドを含んでいない、配向層。 - 請求項1に記載の配向層であって、
前記エポキシ樹脂がUV硬化性である、配向層。 - 請求項1に記載の配向層であって、
前記エポキシ樹脂と混合された光重合開始剤を更に含んでいる、配向層。 - 請求項3に記載の配向層であって、
前記エポキシ樹脂、反応性メソゲン及び光重合開始剤と混合された熱抑制剤を更に含んでいる、配向層。 - 請求項1に記載の配向層であって、
前記エポキシ樹脂が、当該配向層の10ないし80重量%である、配向層。 - 請求項1に記載の配向層であって、
前記反応性メソゲンが、UV硬化性モノアクリレート又はジアクリレートのモノマー又はオリゴマーである、配向層。 - 請求項1に記載の配向層であって、
前記硬化したポリマーフィルムが、該ポリマーフィルムがコーティングされる液晶素子の他の層を損傷させない溶剤内に溶解された硬化性エポキシ樹脂及び反応性メソゲンによって形成されている、配向層。 - 請求項7に記載の配向層であって、
前記溶剤がケトンである、配向層。 - 請求項8に記載の配向層であって、
前記溶剤が、シクロヘキサノン、メチルエチルケトン、アセトン、シクロペンタノン、トルエン及びクロロベンゼンからなる群から選択される、配向層。
