Description
【0001】

【0203】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an organic EL element, and more particularly to a molecular dispersion type polymer organic EL element using a vinyl polymer and an organic EL display using the same.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Various organic EL devices used in organic EL displays have been prototyped based on proposals for forming an organic layer by vacuum deposition using low molecular weight compounds (Applied Physics Letters, vol. 51, pp 913 (1987)). Currently, we are entering the stage of practical application.
[0003]
On the other hand, since the above low molecular weight compounds are inferior in thermal stability, organic EL elements using high molecular weight compounds have been actively developed. When a high molecular compound is used, it can be expected that excellent thermal stability not found in a low molecular compound can be obtained. In addition, since a device can be formed by coating a polymer compound, the manufacturing process can be simplified as compared with a low-molecular compound that has to rely on a vapor deposition method.
[0004]
This polymer organic EL element can be roughly classified into a π-conjugated type using a conjugated polymer and a molecular dispersion type in which a dye is dispersed in a non-conjugated polymer.
[0005]
One π-conjugated type is first disclosed in JP-A-10-92576, and then laminated with a polymer having excellent hole injection properties such as polyethylenedioxythiophene / polystyrene sulfonic acid (PEDOT / PSS). It has the same characteristics as light emitting devices by low molecular vapor deposition.
[0006]
However, it is difficult to produce a blue light-emitting material with good color purity because a π-conjugated polymer compound has a π-conjugated system spread. For this reason, no material having a practical level of color purity has been obtained. In terms of life, it has not reached a practical level.
[0007]
The other molecular dispersion type polymer compound is expected as a method for obtaining a blue light-emitting material with better color purity than the π-conjugated type. The molecular dispersion type was reported in 1983, earlier than the above-described π-conjugated polymer (Polymer, vol. 24, pp748, (1983)). In the molecular dispersion type, a blue light-emitting material with good color purity can be easily obtained by mixing a dopant used in the vapor deposition type with a host polymer.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The practical application of the above-described molecular dispersion type polymer compound lags behind in terms of characteristics such as the lifetime of the device as compared with a low molecular compound by vapor deposition or a π-conjugated type polymer compound.
[0009]
Until now, there have been only a few reports on organic EL devices using molecularly dispersed polymer compounds in addition to studies using polyvinylcarbazole (PVK) (for example, Kido et al., Polymer Preprints, Japan, vol. 45, No. 3, pp 446 (1996); Kido et al., Chemical Letters, vol. 161 (1996); Kido et al., Polymer Preprints, Japan, vol. 2001)). The reason why there are few evaluation reports on molecularly dispersed polymer compounds is that their synthesis is difficult. As described above, an organic EL device using a molecular dispersion type polymer compound may be a blue light emitting device with good color purity, but it is difficult to synthesize and a practical device material has not been obtained. The current situation has not been realized.
[0010]
Accordingly, the present invention solves the above problems and provides a molecular dispersion type polymer material having excellent stability and lifetime, and a high-efficiency, long-life organic EL element, and an organic EL display using the same The purpose is to provide.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An object of the present invention is to provide a vinyl polymer having a pyrene structure, which has a high solid quantum efficiency and a stable structure, to realize a highly efficient and long-life molecularly dispersed organic EL element, and to provide the molecularly dispersed organic EL element. This is solved by creating an organic EL display.
[0012]
Specifically, the above problem is achieved by an organic EL device having an organic layer containing a vinyl polymer that is a polymer of a vinyl monomer having a group derived from the pyrene structure represented by the formula (1).
[0013]
[Chemical Formula 3]
[0014]
However, X in Formula (1)1~ XTenIs a substituent and preferably contains at least one of hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, a heterocyclic group, an amino group, a halogen atom, and a cyano group. Two or more of these may be bonded to form a ring.
[0015]
Specifically,The vinyl monomer of the present invention is a vinyl monomer having a group derived from a pyrene structure represented by the formula (2)It is.
[0016]
[Formula 4]
[0017]
However, L in Formula (2) isAn aryl group which is a divalent linking group and may have a substituentIt is. The bond of the linking group may be a single bond or a bond having a substituent.
[0018]
X in formula (2)11~ X19Is a substituent having at least one of hydrogen, alkyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group, aryloxy group, heterocyclic group, amino group, cyano group and halogen atom.Contains.Two or more of these may be bonded to form a ring.
[0019]
L of the vinyl monomer represented by the formula (2) is a phenyl groupOr biphenyl groupIt is preferable that
[0020]
By introducing the above pyrene structure into the vinyl monomer that polymerizes the organic layer of the organic EL element, high fluorescence quantum efficiency and bipolar characteristics can be added to the vinyl group that is a polymerization functional group of the vinyl monomer.
[0021]
Moreover, the organic EL device of the present invention comprises a vinyl polymer that is a copolymer of two or more types of monomers including at least one type of the above vinyl monomers and at least one type of vinyl monomers other than the vinyl monomer. Can be included. For example, the device characteristics can be finely adjusted by forming a vinyl polymer used in the organic EL device of the present invention and a copolymer polymer of a charge transporting monomer.
[0022]
The organic EL device of the present invention preferably includes a light emitting layer containing a vinyl polymer obtained from the above vinyl monomer in the organic layer. In forming the light emitting layer, it is desirable to add a dopant.
[0023]
It is easy to add a pigment dopant to the vinyl polymer obtained by polymerizing the above vinyl monomer. By using this vinyl polymer as the light emitting layer of the organic layer in the organic EL element, an organic EL element having a high efficiency and a long lifetime can be obtained. At this time, by adding a dopant that emits blue light, a blue light-emitting element with high color purity and long life that is difficult to synthesize can be easily obtained.
[0024]
The organic EL element of the present invention is used for an organic EL element which becomes a pixel in an organic EL display in which a plurality of panels arranged in two dimensions, a power supply mechanism for supplying voltage or current, and a switching mechanism are combined. be able to.
[0025]
Since the organic EL device of the present invention is excellent in thermal characteristics and has a long life, an organic EL display excellent in durability can be obtained. In particular, since the organic EL element of the present invention emits blue light with high luminance, an organic EL display excellent in luminance and color display function can be obtained.

The ratio of the charge transporting monomer is not particularly limited, but 1 to 50 mol%, preferably 1 to 30 mol% is desirable with respect to the whole monomer. If it is said ratio, the outstanding characteristics, such as a high fluorescence quantum yield, which the vinyl monomer of this invention has can be utilized. The vinyl monomer used in the organic EL device of the present invention basically has a bipolar characteristic, but by copolymerizing with the charge transporting monomer at the above ratio, the injection balance of holes and electrons is not limited to 1: 1. It becomes possible to approach. Therefore, fine adjustment of element characteristics is possible, and the life can be extended.
[0071]
The vinyl monomer as described above can be synthesized without affecting the vinyl group by using the Suzuki coupling method, and various monomers can be easily synthesized.
[0072]
The vinyl polymer used in the organic EL device of the present invention can be easily obtained by a known polymerization method, both when the above-mentioned vinyl monomer is used alone and when mixed with other vinyl monomers as necessary. Can be synthesized. The polymerization method can be appropriately selected from radical polymerization methods, cationic polymerization methods, anionic polymerization methods, and the like. The molecular weight of the vinyl polymer after the polymerization reaction is about 10,000 to 100,000 as a weight average molecular weight.
[0073]
In addition to the method of combining the charge transporting monomer with the monomer of the present invention, the characteristics of the polymer can be adjusted by appropriately adding various dopants to the vinyl polymer of the present invention. For example, the method of forming a blue light-emitting layer by adding a dopant to the vinyl polymer of the present invention can easily obtain a blue light-emitting layer that is more efficient and stable than a light-emitting layer by conventional vapor deposition or a π-conjugated type. Highly preferred. Therefore, the vinyl polymer of the present invention can be suitably used as a host material for the light emitting layer of the organic EL device.
[0074]
(2. Organic EL device)
The vinyl polymer of the present invention is dissolved in a solvent, and the organic layer of the organic EL element can be easily formed by a coating method. Therefore, the light-emitting layer of the molecular dispersion type organic EL element can be easily prepared with simple facilities as compared with the conventional vapor deposition method.

[0095]
The charge transporting polymer materials exemplified above are widely used as an electron injection layer and an electron transport layer of an organic EL element, or as a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer. Many of these have a weight average molecular weight Mw of 5,000 or more, usually about 5,000 to 3,000,000.
[0096]
As the charge transporting material to be combined with the light emitting layer, a low molecular material can be used in addition to the above polymer material. The low molecular material can be added to the light emitting layer in the same manner as the above polymer material. Alternatively, a stacked structure of a low molecular material and a light emitting layer can be formed. The low molecular weight material is preferably selected as an electron transporting material or a hole transporting material according to the purpose.

The low molecular weight material used as the hole transporting material can be appropriately selected from, for example, pyrazoline derivatives, arylamine derivatives, stilbene derivatives, triphenyldiamine derivatives, and the like.

(Cathode: Inorganic electron injection layer)
For the inorganic electron injection layer of the electron injection electrode, it is preferable to select a material having a low work function so that electron injection into the organic material is facilitated. For example, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or alkali halide can be used.
[0105]
For example, Li, Na, K, Cs, or the like can be used as the alkali metal. As the alkaline earth metal, for example, Ca, Sr, Ba and the like can be used. In addition, for example, a metal having properties similar to those of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal such as Mg, La, Ce, Sn, Zn, Zr, or the like can be used. Among the above metals, Ca is very preferable because it has a particularly low work function. The film thickness of the inorganic electron injection layer may be a thickness that can sufficiently inject electrons into the
[0106]
When an alkali halide is used for the inorganic electron injecting layer, the material can be appropriately selected. For example, LiF, CsI, and the like are preferable. The thickness of the alkali halide is preferably thin so that electrons can be sufficiently injected into the
[0107]
Any of the above inorganic layers is preferably used as a laminate with an auxiliary electrode. Since the auxiliary electrode does not need to have a low work function or high electron injection property, a general metal can be used, but a metal having high conductivity and easy handling is preferable. For example, one or more metals such as Al, Ag, In, Ti, Cu, Au, Mo, W, Pt, Pd, and Ni can be selected and used. In particular, Al and Ag are preferable.
[0108]
(Cathode: Electron injection layer with coating film of organometallic complex)
The electron injection layer can also be formed using a coating layer of an organometallic complex. The coating layer of the organometallic complex is preferable because the electron injection layer can be easily formed by a coating method such as a spin coating method.
[0109]
As the organometallic complex, for example, β-diketonato complex, quinolinol complex and the like can be used. The metal of the organometallic complex is not particularly limited as long as it is a metal having a low work function. For example, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal can be used. For example, Li, Na, K, Cs, or the like can be used as the alkali metal. Moreover, Ca, Sr, Ba etc. can be used for alkaline-earth metal, for example. In addition, a metal having properties close to those of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, for example, Mg, La, Ce, Sn, Zn, Zr, etc. can be appropriately selected and used.
[0110]
These organometallic complexes can be mixed and applied with the above electron transporting polymer material. In that case, it is very preferable because electrical characteristics and adhesion with the

[0113]
As the material for the auxiliary electrode, an optimum material can be appropriately selected according to the adhesion to the material of the organometallic complex, the characteristics of the target electron injection electrode, and the like. For example, if a low resistance metal such as Al is used, high electron injection efficiency can be secured. Alternatively, high sealing properties can be obtained by using a metal compound such as TiN.

There is no particular limitation on the total thickness of the electron injection layer and the auxiliary electrode, that is, the total thickness of the
[0115]
(Cathode: Electron injection layer with metal salt coating)
A method of forming the electron injection layer using a metal salt coating layer is also preferable because the electron injection layer can be easily formed by a coating method such as a spin coating method. As the metal salt, either an organic metal salt or an inorganic metal salt can be used. For example, Ag, Al, Au, Be, Bi, Co, Cu, Fe, Ga, Hg, Ir, Mo, Mn, Nb, Ni, Os, Pb, Pd, Pt, Re, Ru, Sb, Sn, Ti, Organic metal salts or inorganic metal salts containing metals such as Zr and W can be used.
[0116]
There are no particular restrictions on the form of the metal salt, but for example, a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic carboxylate, divalent carboxylate, benzoic acid salt, alcoholate, phenolate, halide, dialkylamide, etc. should be used. Can do.
[0117]
As the aliphatic carboxylic acid of the aliphatic carboxylate, any of a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid and an unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid can be used. The aliphatic carboxylic acid preferably has 1 to 24 carbon atoms. Examples of the saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid residue include acetic acid, propionic acid, octylic acid, isooctylic acid, decanoic acid, lauric acid, and the like. An acid or the like can be used.
[0118]
The divalent carboxylic acid of the divalent carboxylate can be appropriately selected from, for example, citric acid, malic acid, oxalic acid, and the like.
[0119]
Examples of salts of benzoic acids include benzoic acid, o-tert-butylbenzoic acid, m-tert-butylbenzoic acid, p-tert-butylbenzoic acid, salicylic acid, m-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and the like. Benzoic acid salts can be used. Salicylate is particularly preferable.
[0120]
An alcoholate is a metal salt of an alcohol. Suitable alcohols for producing alcoholates include, for example, primary alcohols such as ethanol, n-propyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, and secondary alcohols such as isopropyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol, tert. -It can select suitably from tertiary alcohols, such as butyl alcohol, and can use.
[0121]
Phenolate is a metal salt of phenols. Phenols refer to phenol, naphthol, 4-phenylphenol, and the like. Examples of phenols include monovalent phenols (0 to 5 substituents, C1 to C8 linear or branched alkyl groups as substituents), divalent phenols (0 to 4 substituents, C1 to C1 substituents). C8 straight chain or branched alkyl group, etc.) and the like.
[0122]
As the halide, for example, a salt with a halogen element such as chlorine, fluorine, bromine or iodine can be used.

The organic EL device described in the present embodiment is a light emitting device with high luminance and long life, and is particularly preferable as a blue light emitting device with high luminance.
[0131]
(3. Organic EL display)
By arranging a plurality of the organic EL elements of the present invention on a plane, an organic EL display having a high luminance and a long life can be obtained.
[0132]
A preferred embodiment of the organic EL display of the present invention can be determined in consideration of brightness, life, power consumption, cost, and the like necessary for an assumed display product. The organic EL element of the present invention can be used for an active drive full color display using a polysilicon TFT or the like. It can also be used for a so-called passive drive display.
[0133]
For a full color display, it is necessary to form light emitting elements of the three primary colors of red, green, and blue (RGB) by any method regardless of which driving method is used.
[0134]
The organic EL element of the present invention can be used for any known full color display method, for example, RGB three-color juxtaposition method, white light emission method, color conversion method, and the like.
[0135]
The RGB three-color juxtaposition method is a method of causing each of the RGB three-color light emitting elements to emit light.
[0136]
The white light emission method is a method for cutting off a part of the wavelength of white light emission by a three-color filter used in a liquid crystal display device or the like and performing full color display.
[0137]
The color conversion method is a method in which three color fluorescent dyes are excited by visible light emission of high energy rays. In the case of the color conversion system, red light and green light are often obtained by using blue light emission of organic EL as excitation light energy rays and exciting green and red phosphor screens, respectively.
