Abstract
Description
【0001】
本発明は、有機EL(エレクトロルミネッセンス、電界発光)素子及び有機ELディスプレイに関する。
【0002】

【0139】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since the polymer material used in the conventional molecular dispersion type organic EL device does not necessarily have sufficient carrier transportability and stability, the conventional molecular dispersion type EL device has a problem in light emission efficiency, heat resistance and lifetime. There is room for improvement.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems of the related art, and provides a molecular dispersion-type organic EL element and an organic EL display that can achieve all of heat resistance, lifetime, and luminous efficiency at a high level. With the goal.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present inventors have conducted intensive studies to achieve the above object, and as a result, the above problem was solved by polymerizing a vinyl monomer having a specific structure to obtain a vinyl polymer and using the polymer as a constituent material of an organic layer. And found that the present invention was completed.
[0011]
That is, the organic EL device of the present invention includes a substrate, a first electrode layer formed on one side of the substrate, an organic layer formed on the first electrode layer, and a first electrode layer formed on the organic layer. Wherein the organic layer contains a vinyl polymer obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer containing a compound represented by the following general formula (1) or (2).

[0014]
According to the organic EL device of the present invention, a vinyl polymer is obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer containing the compound represented by the general formula (1) or (2), and the polymer is contained in the organic layer. The transportability (particularly, electron transportability) of holes and electrons injected from each of the first and second electrode layers into the organic layer can be increased, and the efficiency of light emission derived from the light emitting dopant can be sufficiently improved. In addition, since such a polymer has high heat resistance and excellent stability, a high level of luminous efficiency can be stably obtained over a long period of time. Since the vinyl polymer according to the present invention has a function as a light emitting dopant, the organic layer may not contain a light emitting dopant other than the vinyl polymer. Other light emitting dopants may be further included.
[0015]
The organic layer included in the organic EL device of the present invention may have a single-layer structure composed of only the light-emitting layer containing the vinyl polymer, but may include a light-emitting layer containing a light-emitting dopant and a first or second electrode. A light-emitting layer, an electron-transporting layer, or a hole-blocking layer, including a layer (electron-injecting layer) for injecting electrons into the light-emitting layer, and an electron-transporting layer and / or a hole-blocking layer formed between the light-emitting layers. Preferably, at least one of the layers contains a vinyl polymer.
[0016]
For example, in an organic layer having a laminated structure of a light emitting layer and an electron transporting layer, by injecting the vinyl polymer according to the present invention into one or both of the light emitting layer and the electron transporting layer, electron injection through the electron transporting layer is performed. Electron transportability when electrons are injected from the layer into the light emitting layer can be improved.
[0017]
Further, the vinyl polymer according to the present invention has high carrier blocking properties in addition to the above-described electron transport properties, and is particularly excellent in hole blocking properties. Therefore, the hole density in the light emitting layer can be improved by providing the hole blocking layer containing the vinyl polymer according to the present invention between the light emitting layer and the electron injection layer.
[0018]
As described above, in any case, by using the vinyl polymer according to the present invention, an organic EL device having further improved heat resistance, lifetime, and luminous efficiency can be effectively realized.
[0019]
In the organic EL device of the present invention, the vinyl polymer is preferably obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer containing a compound represented by the following general formula (3) or (4). More preferably, it is obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer containing a compound represented by the formula (5) or (6). By using such a vinyl polymer, heat resistance, carrier transportability (especially, electron transportability), lifetime, and hole blocking properties can be further improved.

And a copolymer of at least one of the above. For example, by combining at least one compound represented by the general formula (1) or (2) with at least one other vinyl monomer having a carrier transporting property, the desired organic layer can be obtained. [0120]
FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing a preferred embodiment of the organic EL display of the present invention. The organic EL display shown in FIG. 2 is of a passive drive type, and is a color conversion type organic EL display using a blue light emitting element as an excitation light source. Note that the color conversion method is a method in which three color fluorescent elements are excited by visible light emission of high energy rays. In the case of the color conversion method, in many cases, blue light is generated in an organic layer of an organic EL element, and the blue light is used as an excitation light energy ray to excite green and red fluorescent screens to obtain green light and red light. It is called a color conversion method because blue is converted into green and red.

[0136]
Note that the organic EL display of the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and can be determined in consideration of luminance, life, power consumption, cost, and the like required for an assumed display product. For example, FIG. 2 shows a so-called passive drive type organic EL display, but the organic EL display of the present invention may be an active drive type full color display using a polysilicon TFT or the like.
[0137]
When the organic EL display of the present invention is a full-color display, full-color display is realized by forming light-emitting elements of three primary colors of red, green, and blue (RGB). In addition to the color conversion method described above, any of an RGB three-color juxtaposition method, a white light emission method, and the like may be used. The RGB three-color juxtaposition method is a display method in which light-emitting elements of RGB three colors emit light. The white light emission method is a method in which a part of the wavelength of white light emission is cut by a three-color filter used in a liquid crystal display device or the like to perform full color display. In the case of the white light-emitting method and the color conversion method, it is not necessary to prepare light-emitting elements of three colors, and the formation of the light-emitting elements can be simplified, and the area can be easily increased.
[0138]
In the organic EL display of the present invention, any of the above-described color display methods can be applied by appropriately selecting a light emitting dopant to be added to the light emitting layer of the organic EL element. For example, a color conversion method can be preferably applied by adding a blue light emitting dopant to an organic layer of an organic EL element to form a light emitting layer. In addition, by incorporating a phosphorescent dopant into the light-emitting layer of the organic EL element, an RGB three-color juxtaposition system using phosphorescence can be preferably applied.
