Description
この三重積においては、空間反転操作、時間反転操作、電磁波の波数ベクトルKに垂直な鏡映操作を施すと、上記3個の物理量K,P,Mのうち2個の符号が反転するので、上記ベクトル三重積の符号は変化しない。従って、このベクトル三重積の符号が正の場合(左から右に電磁波が進行する場合)と負の場合(右から左に電磁波が進行する場合)は区別でき、異なる光学常数をもってよいことになる。これが電気分極Pをもつ強磁性体(焦電性強磁性体)13Aで方向二色性をもつことができる理由である。この方向二色性は別の呼称で“方向による複屈折(non−reciprocal directional birefringence)”、“磁気カイラル(magnetochiral)”、もしくは“ジャイロトロピック(gyrotropic)”を持っているともいう。

Claims (1)
- 半導体レーザーからなる光源と、該光源からのレーザー光が照射される磁気センサー素子と、該磁気センサー素子からの透過光を検出する光検知器とを備え、前記磁気センサー素子として、電気磁気効果である方向二色性(non−reciprocal directional dichroism)、方向による複屈折(non−reciprocal directional birefringence)、磁気カイラル効果(Magnetochiral effect)、もしくはジャイロトロピック効果(gyrotropic effect)を示す固体材料を用い、前記磁気センサー素子にレーザー光を入射し、前記磁気センサー素子からの透過光を観察することにより、該磁気センサー素子の下部に配置される垂直磁気記録膜の磁化(スピン)の向きを検知する磁気センサー装置において、前記磁気センサー素子を構成する固体材料が容易磁化軸と電気分極軸とが平行でない斜方晶の結晶構造をもったGa2-x Fex O3 〔Fe(鉄)の組成;xの範囲が0.7≦x≦1.5〕の磁性材料であることを特徴とする磁気センサー装置。
