BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, and in particular, a liquid crystal display device having a two-terminal non-linear element and dividing a display screen into a plurality of regions and scanning and driving the regions. It is related with the manufacturing method.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, liquid crystal display devices are required to have a large screen and high image quality.
In a conventional liquid crystal display device, a plurality of stripe electrodes are provided in parallel on the opposing surfaces of a pair of opposing glass substrates, and both substrates are bonded so that the stripe electrodes on the opposing surfaces of the glass substrates are orthogonal to each other. In addition, using a liquid crystal display cell obtained by injecting a TN (Twisted Nematic) liquid crystal or STN (Super Twisted Nematic) liquid crystal into the gap between the pair of opposed glass substrates, a simple matrix by a voltage averaging method is used. I was driving.
[0003]
However, according to the driving method, a sufficient contrast ratio cannot be obtained as the number of scanning lines increases, so that a large screen and high-quality display cannot be realized sufficiently.
[0004]
For this reason, an active driving method in which a switching element is provided for each pixel constituting the display screen has been developed. As the switching element, a thin film transistor (TFT) element or a two-terminal nonlinear element has been put into practical use. By providing the switching element in this manner, a large screen and a high-capacity display with high image quality that require a large number of scanning lines can be realized.
[0005]
However, when an attempt is made to realize a liquid crystal display device with a larger screen and higher image quality, it is necessary to further increase the number of scanning lines accordingly, so that even when a switching element is used, good display cannot be performed. For this reason, for example, the signal lines are divided into two groups and scanned within each group for driving display, that is, by dividing the scanning area on the display screen into two, By driving with the number of scanning lines substantially halved without changing the number of lines, an even larger screen and higher image quality are realized.
[0006]
FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view showing a state before the liquid crystal display cell according to the conventional manufacturing method is cut out from the mother glass. In this figure, a liquid crystal display device using a two-terminal nonlinear element as a switching element and driving and displaying the area to be scanned on the display screen in two parts is shown.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, a switching element having an insulating thin film such as a two-terminal nonlinear element has a low electrical withstand voltage, and thus is easily broken down by static electricity generated during the manufacturing process.
[0017]
In particular, in the case of a liquid crystal display device that drives and displays an area to be scanned on the display screen, a potential difference may occur at the dividing line as a boundary. Therefore, the discharge generated here is provided in the pixels along the dividing line. In some cases, the switching elements such as the two-terminal nonlinear elements are intensively destroyed.
[0018]
Further, as shown in FIG. 3, in the state before the liquid crystal display cell is cut out from the large mother glass, since there is the
[0019]
For this reason, it has been proposed to control the humidity during the process, to provide the worker with grounding, or to apply an ion blower as countermeasures against static electricity, but it has not been possible to completely prevent dielectric breakdown of the switching element.
[0020]
As a result, for example, in a two-terminal nonlinear element, the upper and lower electrodes are short-circuited and do not function as a switching element, and the connected pixel appears as a point defect on the screen. There was a problem of worsening.
[0021]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described conventional problems, and in particular, there is provided a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing defects generated in switching elements in the vicinity of dividing lines when there are a plurality of regions to be scanned. It is intended to provide.
[0022]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix, a plurality of signal lines formed between the pixel electrodes, and a switching element that connects the pixel electrodes and the signal lines. A liquid crystal display cell in which liquid crystal is sealed between the element side substrate and the counter substrate, and the signal wiring is divided into two groups that are driven independently. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device divided by line, wherein the pixel electrode, the signal wiring, and the switching element are formed on the mother glass, and the mother glass is divided along a rectangular substrate dividing line. A substrate forming step of forming an element side substrate, and a cell forming step of forming a liquid crystal display cell by enclosing a liquid crystal between the substrates with the element side substrate facing the counter substrate, In the plate forming step, the shorting ring for electrically connecting the signal wiring for each group is arranged on the outer side of the terminal of the signal wiring and on the inner side of the board cutting line. A short ring forming step for forming only along a pair of two sides and a short-circuit wiring for electrically short-circuiting the short rings of each group so as to be entirely disposed inside the substrate cutting line. A region on one side of the other pair of two sides facing each other in the substrate dividing line, and passing through the extended line of the short ring so that the portion is located outside the counter substrate in the cell forming step , and the element includes a short-circuit wiring forming step of the side substrate and the counter substrate are formed to pass along one side region of the liquid crystal display cell opposite, further, the above cell formation process, liquid crystal display An inspection step of performing a lighting test for the cell, is characterized by and a removal step of removing a portion of the short ring and short wire after the inspection process.
[0023]
Method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention is the manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device, the switching element is characterized by a two-terminal nonlinear element.
[0024]
Method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention is the manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device, in the short-circuit wiring forming step, the substrate of the part of the short-circuit wiring, extension on an even and board cutting line near the short ring It is characterized by being formed on the end face.
[0025]
Hereinafter, the operation of the above configuration will be described.
According to the present invention, the short-circuit wiring that electrically connects one short ring and the other short ring is provided inside the line that divides the liquid crystal display cell. Therefore, even when a plurality of liquid crystal display cells are cut out from a large mother glass and divided into a single liquid crystal display cell, one signal wiring pattern and the other signal are separated by dividing lines between the plurality of scanning regions. No potential difference occurs between the wiring patterns. Therefore, even when the liquid crystal display cell is in a single state, it is possible to prevent the switching element from being destroyed by discharge.
[0026]
Further, according to the present invention, at least a part of the short-circuit wiring that electrically connects one short ring and the other short ring is surrounded by a line that divides the short ring and a line that divides the liquid crystal display cell. Formed in the region. For this reason, by finally dividing the short ring, it is possible to simultaneously cut a part of the short-circuited wiring and electrically disconnect the short-circuited wiring.
[0027]
Further, since the insulating thin film is particularly thin, it is possible to prevent breakdown due to discharge even in a two-terminal nonlinear element that is vulnerable to electrostatic breakdown.
[0028]
In addition, since a part of the short-circuit wiring that electrically connects the one short ring and the other short ring is disposed on the substrate end face near the dividing line of the liquid crystal display cell on the extension line of the short ring, By chamfering the end face of the substrate facing the short ring, both the short-circuit wiring and the short ring can be easily divided.
