【0001】

[Industrial application fields]
The present invention relates to an information processing apparatus such as a personal computer, and more particularly to a resume function for reproducing a work state such as when the power is turned off when the power is turned on again. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a resume function in an information processing system in which a plurality of information processing apparatuses are connected via a network.
[0002]
[Prior art]
With recent advances in small packaging technology and low power consumption technology, personal computers, workstations, word processors, etc. (hereinafter referred to as information processing devices) are becoming increasingly smaller, and recently, battery-powered is possible. Notebook-size products are also available. In such a battery-driven information processing apparatus, it is required to manually or automatically turn off the power frequently in order to prevent battery consumption. However, when turning off the power, for example, it is necessary to store user information such as a document being created in a non-volatile storage device. When the power is turned on again, the program and the user information are again stored in the non-volatile memory. It is necessary for the user to call from the storage device. For this reason, frequently turning off the power causes a problem that it is extremely inconvenient for the user.
[0003]
Therefore, in the battery-driven information processing apparatus, the contents of the display memory and the contents of the I / O register of the input / output device are stored in the main memory and the main memory is backed up by the battery before the power is turned off. When the power is turned on again, the contents of the display memory saved in the main memory and the contents of the I / O register of the input / output device are written back to the respective devices, as if the power was turned on. Generally, a resume function for reproducing the state when the power is turned off is provided. Information processing apparatuses having such a resume function are disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos. 57-17042 and 2-93814.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, the resume function can reproduce the user's work state when the power is turned on again even when the battery is consumed by turning off the power frequently, and it does not cause usability degradation. A device is provided. However, with the resume function of the conventional information processing apparatus, the user cannot perform other work while saving one work state. In addition, when multiple users use the same information processing device, if the operator who has been using previously performed the save using the resume function, when the operator to be used later turns on the power, The operator's working state was reproduced, which was not preferable in terms of security and usability.
[0005]
In addition, since the work state is saved by backing up the main memory with a battery, the work state can be saved only for a limited time determined by the capacity of the battery.
[0006]
Further, with the resume function of the conventional information processing apparatus, the work state can be reproduced only by the information processing apparatus in which the user interrupts the work and saves the work state, and the mobility is poor.
[0007]
In addition, the resume function of the conventional information processing apparatus has a problem that the connection state to the network cannot be reproduced correctly.
[0008]
Further, the resume function of the conventional information processing apparatus has a problem that a message such as an electronic mail distributed via the network cannot be received while the automatic power supply is turned off to reduce power consumption.
[0009]
A first object of the present invention is to provide an information processing apparatus capable of storing and reproducing a plurality of work states.
[0010]
A second object of the present invention is to provide an information processing apparatus capable of storing a plurality of work states without performing backup with a battery. .
[0011]
A third object of the present invention is to provide an information processing system capable of reproducing a work state even with an information processing device different from the information processing device in which the user interrupts the work and saves the work state.
[0012]
The fourth object of the present invention is to provide the work state even when a file of a second information processing device different from the first information processing device on which the user is working is used via a network. It is to provide an information processing apparatus capable of storing and reproducing information.
[0013]
A fifth object of the present invention is to provide an information processing apparatus having a resume function that can correctly reproduce the state when the power is turned off when the power is turned on again even when the power is turned off while connected to another information processing apparatus on the network. Is to provide.
[0014]
A sixth object of the present invention is to allow a user to display a message sent from another information processing apparatus even when the information processing apparatus connected to the other information processing apparatus on the network is in a power-off state. It is to provide an information processing apparatus.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The first object is to provide a plurality of sets of work state storage areas for storing information in the storage device, and the processing device can determine the work state based on the information of one set of work state storage areas designated by the operator among the plurality of sets. Is achieved by reproducing.
[0016]
The second object is achieved by storing the working state on a magnetic disk or the like that does not require battery backup.
[0017]
The third object is to provide a plurality of work state storage areas in the storage device on the storage device of the first information processing device, and the second information processing device is connected to the first information processing device via the network. By accessing the storage device, at least information related to the work state at a specific time is stored in the work state storage area, and information on one set of work state storage areas designated by the operator among a plurality of sets, This is achieved by executing a process for reproducing the work state.
[0018]
The fourth object is achieved by executing a process of storing a use state of a file being used via a network when the work state is stored, and a process of reproducing the use state of the file when the work state is reproduced. .
[0019]
The fifth object is to continue energizing the network controller even after saving the work state, and when the network controller receives a frame from the network in this state, the work state is temporarily reproduced and connected to another information processing apparatus. This is achieved by performing processing necessary for maintaining the state.
[0020]
The fifth object is to continue energizing the timer unit even after saving the work state, and to temporarily reproduce the work state when the timer unit detects the lapse of the specified time in this state, and to perform other information processing. This is achieved by performing processing necessary for maintaining the connection state with the apparatus.
[0021]
The sixth object is to continue energizing the network controller even after saving the work state, and when the network controller receives a frame from the network in this state, the work state is reproduced, and the frame displays a message to be displayed to the user. This is accomplished by displaying it when it was included.
[0022]
[Action]
Since the work states at a plurality of points in time are stored in the plurality of sets of work state storage areas, the respective work states by a plurality of operators or the work states at a plurality of points by one operator are stored and reproduced. .
[0023]
In addition, since the work state is stored on a magnetic disk or the like that does not require battery backup, the battery backup to the main memory is not required, and power is not consumed when the power is turned off.
[0024]
Since a plurality of information processing devices are connected via a network and the work state storage area is provided in one information processing device, the other information processing devices can be backed up by a battery or installed as a magnetic disk device. The work state is also reproduced in an information processing apparatus other than the information processing apparatus that has performed the process of storing the work state.
[0025]
In addition, even if another information processing device that stores a file in use via the network after saving the work state makes the file state unused, the use state of the file is stored when the work state is saved. Therefore, when the work state is reproduced, the use state of the file can be reproduced based on the stored contents.
[0026]
In addition, by continuing to supply power to the network controller or timer even after saving the work state, it is possible to continue processing necessary to maintain the connection state with other information processing devices. Can be reproduced normally.
[0027]
Further, by continuing to energize the network controller even after saving the work state, it is possible to receive a frame including a message and display the message to the user.

In the above-described embodiment, an example in which a user can arbitrarily specify a saved work name has been described. However, a user ID may be used as the saved work name. By using the user ID, it is possible to prevent another person's work state from being reproduced when the power is turned on, and to realize a resume function that is excellent in terms of security. Further, each user may store and reproduce a plurality of work states by combining a user ID and a name arbitrarily designated by the user. In this case, it is realized by saving the user ID together with the work status instead of the saved work name, or by saving the work status in a save area corresponding to the user ID. In the latter case, when the power is turned on again, an operation for requesting the user to input a user ID is performed. Then, it is investigated whether or not there is a work state corresponding to the user ID input. As a result, when there is a work state corresponding to the user ID, an operation for requesting the input of the saved work name is further performed, and the work state is reproduced from the save area designated by the user selection in the same manner. . As a result, the work states of a plurality of users can be saved simultaneously, and the work states of each user can be reproduced without sacrificing security when the power is turned on again.
