この発明は、従来技術が抱えるこのような不都合を取り除くべくなされたものであり、従来技術に比して、タイヤ重量を有効に低減し、併せて、車両への乗り心地を向上させることができる空気入りラジアルタイヤを提供するものである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
この発明の空気入りラジアルタイヤは、少なくとも一枚のカーカスプライからなるラジアルカーカスを、ビードコアの周りで内側から外側へ折返して巻上げるとともに、ラジアルカーカスのクラウン部の外周側にベルトを配置し、また、ラジアルカーカスの本体部分の内周側に一層の補強ゴム層を、そして、前記本体部分と折返し部分との間に他の一層の補強ゴム層をそれぞれ設けたものにおいて、両補強ゴム層を、ビード部から、ベルトの内周側位置までの間に配設して、それらの補強ゴム層の半径方向外端縁を、ベルトの側縁よりタイヤ幅方向の内側に位置させるとともに、ラジアルカーカスの折返し端を、ベルトの内周側で、いずれの補強ゴム層の端縁よりも、タイヤ幅方向の中央部寄りに位置させたものである。

この空気入りラジアルタイヤでは、少なくとも、ラジアルカーカスの本体部分と折返し部分との間に配設した、従来タイヤのビードフィラに相当する補強ゴム層が、それの半径方向外端をタイヤのサイド部で終了させることなく、ベルトの内周側位置まで延びることから、タイヤの内圧が低下しても、タイヤのサイド部への歪の集中を抑制することが可能となり、これにより、補強ゴム層のトータル厚みを低減させてなお、タイヤのサイド部への破損の発生を有効に阻止することができるので、タイヤ重量の軽量化および、車両への乗り心地の改善を有利に実現することができる。
またここでは、ラジアルカーカスの折返し端を、タイヤのサイド部を越えて、ベルトの内周側で、いずれの補強ゴム層の端縁よりも、タイヤ幅方向の中央寄りに位置させることにより、ラジアルカーカスの折返し端をもまたタイヤのサイド部から排除して、そのサイド部に生じる歪みをより有効に分散させることができるので、補強ゴム層のトータル厚みをさらに減じてサイド部の耐久性をより向上させることができる。
しかもここでは、カーカスの折返し端を、いずれの補強ゴム層の端縁よりも、タイヤ幅方向内側に位置させることで、サイド部の歪を分散させることが出来、耐久性が向上する。つまり、補強ゴム層を薄くすることができる為、乗り心地、重量低減に役立つ。

かかるタイヤにおいて好ましくは、ベルトの内周側に位置するそれぞれの補強ゴム層の端縁の、タイヤ幅方向の相対距離を5mm以上とし、また好ましくは、それぞれの補強ゴム層のゴム硬度を、JIS A硬度で70〜90度の範囲とする。

図1に示す基本構造を有し、図にA,B,Cで示す寸法、すなわち、ベルト側縁から、カーカス折返し端、補強ゴム層6の半径方向外端および補強ゴム層5の半径方向外端までのそれぞれの距離を種々に変化させるとともに、それぞれの補強ゴム層5,6の硬度および最大厚みを変化させた、サイズが205/65R15のそれぞれのタイヤを、6 1/2 J×15のリムにリム組みするとともに、エアバルブの開放下で、465kgfの荷重を負荷して、外表面にクラックが発生するまでの走行距離を、ドラム耐久試験によって測定したところ、表1に示す通りとなった。
