【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、エンジンの排気音
を消音するためのマフラ外筒構造に関するものである。

【従来の技術】エンジンの排気音を消音するためのマフ
ラの外筒は金属プレートを円筒状にベンディングして円
筒の長手方向の合わせ部を接合している。この円筒の長
手方向の合せ部の接合としては図3で示すように、外筒
2の長手方向に沿ってシーム溶接9し、外筒2の両端に
端板3,4を固着して端板3側には排気ガス取り入れ口
5を、また、端板4側には排気ガス出口6を形成してマ
フラ本体1とした構造のものや、図4で示すように、金
属プレートの両端縁をヘミング加工(はぜ折り)し、こ
れを円筒状にベンディングして外筒2の長手方向にヘミ
ング接合したロックシーム部7を設け、外筒2の両端に
端板3,4を固着して端板3側には排気ガス取り入れ口
5を、また、端板4側には排気ガス出口を形成してマフ
ラ本体1とした構造のものが一般的である。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】しかしながら、マフラ
本体1内における排気ガスの圧力は高圧であり、この高
い内圧や振動等によって上記従来のシーム溶接9による
接合あるいはヘミング接合したロックシーム部のいずれ
においても気密性が十分保たれずガス洩れが懸念されて
いた。
【0004】本発明の目的は、簡単な構成により気密性
を向上させたマフラ外筒構造を提供することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】上記の目的を達成するた
めの本発明の構成は、円筒の長手方向の合わせ部をヘミ
ング接合したロックシーム部を有するマフラの外筒にお
いて、前記ロックシーム部に、その長手方向の全長に渡
って連続した凹溝を押圧形成したものである。

【発明の実施の形態】以下本発明の実施の形態を図面に
基づいて説明する。図1において、1はマフラ本体、2
は外筒である。この外筒2の両端に端板3,4が固着さ
れ、端板3側には排気ガス取り入れ口5を、また、端板
4側には排気ガス出口6を形成している。
【0007】本発明の外筒2は図2で示すように、金属
プレートの両端縁にヘミング7a,7b(はぜ折り)を
加工し、これを円筒状にベンディングして外筒2の長手
方向の合せ部を前記ヘミング7a,7bにより嵌め合わ
せ圧着したヘミング接合でロックシーム部7を設けてい
るものである。
【0008】そこで、本発明は前記ロックシーム部7
に、その長手方向の全長に渡って連続した凹溝8を押圧
形成したものである。
【0009】この凹溝8の押圧形成は、ロックシーム部
7の領域内で1本乃至複数本でもよいし、外筒2の外側
表面又は内側表面のいずれでもよい。
【0010】本発明は上記の通りの構造であるから、外
筒2の長手方向のロックシーム部7のヘミング7a,7
bは凹溝8の押圧形成によって密着力がより高められる
と共に、凹溝8の押圧形成によるヘミング7a,7bは
波形屈曲して通気抵抗の作用を行い、内圧に対しロック
シーム部7の気密性が確保される。

ム部7からのガス洩れの恐れを低減することができる。
【0012】また、凹溝8の押圧形成によってロックシ
ーム部7のヘミング7a,7bの嵌め合わせの強度が増
大し、振動等によるヘミング7a,7bの嵌め合わせの
ズレや緩みが防止され、外筒2の正常な形態を維持する
と共に、気密性を向上させることができる。

【発明の効果】以上述べたように本発明によると、外筒
のロックシーム部の長手方向の全長に渡って連続した凹
溝を押圧成形してヘミングの嵌め合わせ部を密着する簡
単な構造によってマフラ内部の気密性を向上する利点を
